I know, I know. It's been done to death, and we all know that xbl is way better...but I have some personal reasons why I prefer PSN over XBL.

It's free. Yeaup, obvious reason number one. M$ charges users $50 to play. Now we could easily break this down into how much it is a day, or how many cents it is every second, but it's truly irrelevant...because if you do pay in monthly or 3 month breaks you will end up paying more than $50 a year. MS demands that you pay $50 up front, and that's about the price of a game nowadays. As a gamer, I would personally prefer a new game over p2p connection. Which bring me to my 2nd point...

While MS charges you to pay $50 a year to use your own internet connection, many of Sony's MP games(I know Warhawk and Resistance and I'm sure others) offer free dedicated servers to it's users. Now, I know many people(on here, that is) won't be too effected by this, but with dedicated servers many players with lower connections can have the same experience as those with higher connections.

Another great feature of PSN is the ability to share throughout the community. How, you ask? Well Sony let's everyone of their customers create their own theme and share them as long as you have a HD(which comes with every PS3, bar-none) and the internet. You can create your theme with different tools(find them on google), and once you are done you can upload theme to such sites as PSU.com. To make this process even easier, once you find a theme created by another user you can go to your browser on your PS3(100% free to all users, as long as an internet connection is found) and download it directly to your PS3 HD. Now for those who simply can't stand using the controller to navigate the browser, you can simply hook a USB KB/M in any of the 4 slots on the PS3. Bu Bu but MS offers themes...well yes they do and some cool ones I might add. Unfortunately most themes cost cold hard cash, and I believe it's $1 for most themes and their is no sharing or creating of these themes.

Almost everything is customizable on the ps3 and you don't feel too constricted like you do on XBL, where everything is where Microsoft wants it to be. Plus the PSN store is a lot more organized and has a much more 'store' feel than what MS offers, not to mention it's easier to get from one place to another.

Also all demos on PSN are available to all users when they come out, no having to pay for anyone.(I do realize some betas will use Qore, but this applies to most demos.

Also, as mentioned before, the web browser is available to all users...which you can use through the PS3's WiFi(built in with the console).

You can also share games and Map pack with friends. Remember those recently released CoD4 maps? Well if you have a buddy who wants you to play with him on some of the newer maps...well he can just give them to you. You can share PSN games like Super Stardust and old Playstation games like Crash. Almost anything, besides Warhawk, can be shared up to 5 times.

Cool stuff? I think so. Remember PSN is 100% free and offers in game chat, free demos, and now featuring an in game xmb...which actually doesn't slow down like XBL's blade system.

If you're seriously hell-bent on using the free excuse, I will too with Xbox Live. I'll just create a new XBL account every month and receive a free one month - and bingo, free online. And if anyone cannot truly afford that $50, they'll go through that 4 minute hassle if you don't want to spend 50 USD.

why do you spell, and use word structure just like the other guy with that same avatar on here thats a big cow?

As for that free=nothing it doesn't make the service better sony hosts nothing, and passes all cost onto the developers and all the movie companies...ect something xbox live does not microsoft hosts all of it, except the games.

In every single way xbox live is better, there are more games that use the service to its full extent, more demos, more movies, more XBLA, more users, more people with mics *like 99% compred to the 5% on psn*.

A fee is not a bad thing, if the service is good then you should be happy to pay a fee, people that complain about paying a fee for the best are just sad.

So more people breathing into open-mics is a good thing now?

XBL has 10 million users, everyone on a PS3 has access to PSN, which means more PSN users :?

There are more arcade games and demos because... its been out for an extra year!!!! woohoo.

People are paying for a carbon copy of PSN with longer sign-in times ( i counted seconds for xbl to load and psn :? ) PSN are the better service because of more value for money.

I am unsure who he is, but he sounds amazing and I would love to meet him.

Sure it adds to the service, whenever you buy something...you always add in value to the package before purchasing it.

In every single way xbox live is better, there are more games that use the service to its full extent, more demos, more movies, more XBLA, more users, more people with mics *like 99% compred to the 5% on psn*.

Yes, Sony is slowly working on bringing more and more content everyday...it does have a year to catch up on...ya know?

A fee is not a bad thing, if the service is good then you should be happy to pay a fee, people that complain about paying a fee for the best are just sad.

It is bad. Get it out of your head, don't let MS force you to pay. They have you wrapped around the finger, and they tried doing it to PC gamers as well....but they fought against. Everyone always praises MS' unity throughout xbl.....but it's also keeping it from being free. Cliff B couldn't even let free maps go, because MS wouldn't let him.Every single service is free. Wii, PSN, PSP, DS, Dreamcast, and PC are all free(now Including GAMES FORWINDOWS).

There is one thing I like about the ps3....it lets me use my Sennheiser headset and the 360 does not. The stock 360 headset is GARBAGE, I broke about 5 of them.

Yeah they are pretty bad...too bad Microsoft limits that stuff. With Playstation you can use pretty much any bluetooth or USB headset.

It's not always a matter of price as much as it is principle. Besides, I doubt more than 10% of xbl users do this on a regular basis.

PSN cant even compare to Xbox live , PSN is purest crap. Live has more content , Better freind communication opitions and MOvie rental support that is awesome. I Pay 50 dollars for a year , Its nothing to cry aboute. You get what you pay for ,, also we often get free map packs from MS like for Geow.

All the features of Xbox Live will still be available to you, except you'll be getting it for free. I do not see what's wrong, if you still want to play with the same group of friends - add them and tell them to remove your previous account. It's simple really, I'm sure they would understand as well if you're truly budgeting. I doubt even 2% of XBL Gold members do this, but that doesn't mean it's irrational - I think it would be brilliant, but I have the money to spend so I really don't care. I use both PSN and XBL and I enjoy XBL far more.

Better friend communications? Explain. We know XBL has more content(one year early launch), and Sony has already implemented movie support as well. Oh and you got two free maps(old bones was garbage by the way and Raven Down was just a little square that was only good for shotgun battles), and I'm sure MS was pissed about it because they MADE, yes MADE Cliffy make users pay for something he wanted to give away.

That's not a good enough answer for me, noone, no matter how rich they may be, would just throw there money away. Let's face it, it's a hassle and you do feel a sense of association with your gamertag. You have to make a new email, create a new account, and then relevel your character. Think about playing CoD4 for a month, getting the golden deagle and then...&*&$ time to make a new account. It doesn't happen, people don't do it and when was the last time you created a new account because MS could have put a cap on how many you could make(refering to Killzowned's comment)....because they sure as hell control everything else.

I could see that, my first one snapped on the side. My second one wouldn't let me talk, even though I could hear, and the one I have now muffles unless I am holding the plug in really tight to the controller.

Looks like Sony found a loophole, because I play games like Super Stardust, share themes, and play MGO and Warhawk online....I've yet to pay a dime.

Edit: 1000th post, wow...well at least it's for a good cause. Every post brings the blind closer to seeing.

Such defensiveness. I'm simply saying that while you are not paying for PSN service and getting it for "Free" Sony is somehow recouping the loss through other means, whether it be game prices, increase in accessory costs, etc. Something. It's business, they are going to make money off you somehow.

Nothing is free. I'm not debating PSN topic really, just in general that nothing is free. Basic economics.

I see and that's all well and good. Your GT shows you play R6 and CoD4...two games that truly prove my point. Getting level max in Cod4 or Elite in Vegas, getting into a clan, and then having everything taken away. Most people won't settle for this and it's really not a viable option for most games...with the exception being Gears I guess.

Also I did some google searching and found this. Granted it's just a forum...but the guy does confirm that there is a limit to how many accounts you can have.

Game prices are on par with Microsoft and almost all accessories can be found cheaper because you can use third party accessories. The argument is moot, and yes I'm defensive...but it is my topic and what kind of fun would it be if I wasn't:wink:.

Meh - I was bored from my account (Lil STev0) so I created a new one just to mess around in Call of Duty 4 and then played Vegas just for a quick couple of matches.

Really? And I confirm you can have unlimitted. Really? Come on. And here I expected some evidence.

Unfortunately, it hurts your cause more than assists it.

I'm simply stating a basic principle here and I don't know about some of you but didn't our parents tell us when we were little that nothing in life was free?

So Sony in their crazy mind wanting to somehow make a profit off a gamer (*gasp* a crime!) throws in a "free" PSN service. Do you think Sony just eats the cost of keep that network up and running? Of course not, the cost of goods and services that are free are eventually carried down to the consumer.

I know it's shocking, but we'll just let you believe what you want ;). Enjoy your "free" service. hehe.

No, my father, Kaz Harai, always told me that the future of digital distribution and online gaming would come together in an absolutely free package, but the evil force will try to push the masses into paying....turning them into zombies.

You've yet to give me any hard evidence on how PSN is costing me. I know Sony makes money off of the consumers...if that's what you're trying to get at, then I agree.

[QUOTE="senses_fail_06"]You've never confirmed unlimited, you said you have made 4. I will do some more digging. Stevo_the_gamer

If you want I'll start creating some account; Inflate Microsoft's scores for E3 2009. ;)

Edit: nevermind, don't want to take the time to do that a 4:30 in the morning. :P

lol, you don't have to do that. Partially because I believe that I already know the answer, and I believe there is a cap. Here are more users who cannot create a gold account after 3.

Yeaup ...the masses need to be informed. I plan on giving this thread a good ol' bump-a-roo for the later crowd as well. This is only part of the process, more threads will come concerning other aspects. Expect my sig to be full soon.

Too bad Sony can't seem to make good updates.

Remember the 2.40 that was hyped to the heavens as the Xbox live killer? We all know how that ended up.

PSN may suit you because you dont have the $50 or whatever. It may suit others too. BUT, XBL is still a better service, no matter what way you spin it. Thats why i pay for it.

It was the xbox live killer in a sense...because it took the essentials such as IG XMB and added them with the great features it already had all while keeping it 100% free.

I don't have the $50, are you kidding me? Lame excuse, I own all three consoles and well over 50 games this gen. Cost is one of the smaller reasons why I prefer PSN over XBL, because PSN being free will eventually get more users.

Oh and why is XBL better? Any hard details, facts, opinion? Have you even used PSN?

Yes, i regularly play on both my PS3 and 360. XBL is the better service. Anyone who argues is a Playstation fanboy.

Talk to me when an update bricks 20% of units sold...and potentially 100%.

Stuff that makes XBL better (got this from wiki, check for yourself)

  • Exclusive downloadable content (GTA IV, Fallout 3)
  • Reputation rating which is voted on by other players who decide to either prefer or avoid another player
  • Complaint filing system, which allows a user to report another user that has broken the Xbox Live Terms of Use
  • Windows Live messenger integration
  • Enhanced matchmaking using cumulative gamerscore, reputation, location/language profile, and gamer zone
  • TrueSkill is a ranking and matchmaking system premiering in the Xbox 360 live services. Developed at Microsoft Research Cambridge (England), the TrueSkill ranking system is now used in over 150 titles for the Xbox 360.When matchmaking, the system attempts to match individuals based on their estimated skill level. If two individuals are competing head-to-head and have the same estimated skill level with low estimate uncertainty, they should each have roughly a 50% chance of winning a match. In this way, the system attempts to make every match as competitive as possible.
  • Inside Xbox is a newsletter about Xbox Live news, events, products, interviews and games that is integrated in the Xbox 360 Dashboard. Content for Inside Xbox is created by the Xbox global marketing team and features streaming video segments "Pick Up and Play", "Major's Minute" with Larry Hryb and "Game with Fame".
  • The "Game with Fame" initiative has been Microsoft's way to connect their gamers with celebrities.[34] Notable participants of "Game With Fame" include Shia LaBeouf, Jack Black, Rihanna, and Velvet Revolver.[35]
  • Xbox Ambassadors" are community members selected by Microsoft who have proven themselves to be helpful towards others and are willing to assist new Xbox Live users. Presently, there are ambassadors in 18 countries representing 30 different languages.[36]
  • Microsoft's Live Anywhere initiative will enable a variety of non-Xbox platforms such as Windows Vista PCs, Windows Mobile phones, and Java-enabled phones to connect to Xbox Live. A gamer will be able to keep a Gamertag, purchase and play Xbox Live Arcade games, and connect to other Xbox Live users to play Arcade games and conduct text, and audio chat.
And then theres the marketplace that is much more content filled. Many more demos, game videos, XBLA games, movies etc.

Cool stuff? I think so. Remember PSN is 100% free and offers in game chat, free demos, and now featuring an in game xmb...which actually doesn't slow down like XBL's blade system.

. -DrRobotnik-

1. XBL does have nice downloadable content, that Microsoft does buy....but what other titles that have exclusive content? Only two have been mentioned.

2. Doesn't work, I've continuously been in room where I have avoided people on my list...Gears and Rainbow Six Vegas on both occasions.

3. System is abused by it's own users, and people who do actually violate the rules hardly ever get punished.

4. MSN? completely useless and uncomfortable especially using a control pad...or you could pay an extra $35 for the keypad. :|. Besides, it's completely drawved by Sony's full internet browser.

5-6. Are both complete Bull, how many games have you actually played that pair you evenly. I know the big games like CoD4, Vegas, Vegas 2, and Gears do not. I believe Halo does, but it's matchmaking is more based on your in game ranking.

7-8. That's absolutely useless, and I can't believe it's actually being used as a plus for xbl. Major Nelson are Trixie are both very annoying as well.

9. Call Sony support, they'll help you.

10. Cool, I'll believe it when I see it.

, the system's 'supposedly' bricking isn't the fault of the PSN...it would clearly be a hardware issue. Maybe something sent over PSN caused the systems to malfunction.

[QUOTE="ps3weee"]PSN cant even compare to Xbox live , PSN is purest crap. Live has more content , Better freind communication opitions and MOvie rental support that is awesome. I Pay 50 dollars for a year , Its nothing to cry aboute. You get what you pay for ,, also we often get free map packs from MS like for Geow. senses_fail_06
Better friend communications? Explain. We know XBL has more content(one year early launch), and Sony has already implemented movie support as well. Oh and you got two free maps(old bones was garbage by the way and Raven Down was just a little square that was only good for shotgun battles), and I'm sure MS was pissed about it because they MADE, yes MADE Cliffy make users pay for something he wanted to give away.

remove all content that was reales for xboxlive before PS realesed , Live got Way more demos , downloadable trailers and overallcontent even if you dont count the first year. It destroys PSN when it comes to content.

Sony has implemented movie support ? If you have used live , Compare the support of movie rentals and series that Xbox live got to the poor suport of Psn, IN this part to Xbox destroys PSN.

6 maps for free for Geow

Get ready to enhance your Gears of War multiplayer experience. Download the four new maps today, including Bullet Marsh, Garden, Process, and Subway. Cost: 0 MS points

and

Map pack 1 with Raven down and old bones, They are not garbage , they both fun maps and I am sure there is more free maps to come with Geow 2.

Exclusive Fallout and Gta 4 content.

Can you invite Friends to a game you are playing from Psn and are there rooms for Chating With your friends only and the people you choose while in the middle of a game with Psn ? I am not sure , I havent Used the PSN chat but My friends say its garbage but I have Checked out PSN and the content that was there to download was nothing compared to xboxlive.
