People love to go off and dictate that japanese influence is dead, Japan in the industry is dead and such. However as ironic as this might be, the japanese actually "HAVE" more infkuence than the western counterparts. Think about it.

Japanese industry=handhelds.

Western industry=home consoles (with the exception of he wii, which seems to hve a good mixture of both).

Sales of handhelds>>>>sales of consoles this gen, FACT.

disclaimer: this is not about opinions, only facts. Handhelds are king baby!

Come at me Breh!

Handhelds tend to be cheaper. Once next gen consoles are here this will be even more evident.

Yet... DS and PSP sold very well. 3DS sold more than DS did in the same time. Where is the smartphone takeover?

That's not the point, the point was that supposedly the japanese influence is gone, yet the handhelds stay alive thanks to the japanese games. It might be true that sony is japan, but the first party japanese studios ofsony are as good as dead in the states while their western counterparts are flourishing. The fact tht the japanese has little influence in the HD twins while the western have little influence in the handheld department; yet the handhelds constantly outsoudl the home consoles this gen and still do.

i think it's more a matter of styIe. a styIe that usually suits handhelds (JRPGs), but there is still influence in there. a lot of games feel "western" but are actually from japanese developers. and that's, of course, not bringing nintendo into the discussion.

Actually Mattel (who is a California company) made the very first hand held "Auto Race" back in 1977. While nintendo popularized handhelds in 1989 with the gameboy the hand helds were started in good ol USA. That is the true facts.
