Some thoughts from a Sonic fan
1. Artstyle of environments back to old ones, which i find pretty neat. Though its probably due to nostalgia.
2. Not a fan of Sonic's design and animation.
3. Cant hear the music much. :( But it seems to not follow the style of Rush's garbage music. So thats a good thing.
4. That guy sucked at the game.
Looks OK but I've played many sonic games like that. It seems you have to memorize some spots during a play through to keep from losing your rings because you won't get enough reaction time. I think Sega just just create a new platform IP without the speed of Sonic. Sonic will never beat out Mario with a game like this.
Wow... I was very against this game.. But WOW... Im impressed. The gameplay looks very smooth and fluid. i think this is going to be fantastic
The Running animation doesn't look like it'll bother much.
But I liked the other running animation better. Hope it's unlockable.
Level design seemed nice, splash hill zone 1 has good music and it looked ok. But Sonic's animations are pretty bad.
Seriously why didn't they just go for some wicked awesome HD 2D animations, instead of this "quasi 2-3d" I guess they only got part of the message that Sonic was only good when it was 2d.Jynxzor
Here's the thing, when Sonic was at his height, 2D gaming was at its finest, the youthful talent of the industry was attracted to such games, and the AAA-focus was being put towards the Sonic series. It was the Halo or God of War of its time. There was a literal union of hardware and software being put towards it. Now we get the team behind the Sonic Rush series. Is that good?

Eh.

It's probably better than the fetid, bug-infested crap that most 3D Sonic games have been... but there's little chance it will be any better than, say, Sonic Rush, or the "pseudo-3D" titles on the PSP. This isn't the first time they have done 2D Sonic, doing a kinda-2D Sonic on consoles isn't much better than doing it on a DS or a PSP. Why would the design be better? Why would the music or animation suddenly be tighter?
-
Same people. Same budget. Same basic development process - they just said "cut the crappy characters, make it play in 2D and "call it Sonic 4 so we can market it as though the 3D games never happened". It's the same crap, and we're complete suckers if we trust them before the bad reviews come out.

Little chance to be better than Sonic Rush? It's made by the developers who MADE Sonic Rush. It can be better.I really think that is the Wii version. The graphics don't look polished enough to be HD.
You know that vid is off-screen, right? I am your Daddy. I know everything boy. Everything.Little chance to be better than Sonic Rush? It's made by the developers who MADE Sonic Rush. It can be better.DeiuosI'm not quite certain how "X is greater than X" is a valid statement. If you're trying to suggest they're improving with time, their track record stands against you. They are simply a team that puts out 7.0 ~ 8.0 range games, they are not a AAA machine. On the other hand, that's still better than what most Sonic games have been of-late. I'd much rather see a "Sonic 4 - 7.5" effort than another "holy crap this suck - 3.5" type game. - Anyone expecting a game better than an "okay tribute to Sonic's past" is putting expectations on the team that are unrealistic. You are going to be disappointed, or worse, contribute to the blind "Sonic worship" that continues to insist Sonic Rush on the 360 was "misunderstood" or that "Sonic the Hedgehog" was crap simply because it was rushed.

Their track record is nothing but opinions from others who've played it (which range from 0s to 10s for all their games).. You personally wont know if you enjoy it more than Rush till you play it yourself.

How do you know that I haven't? 8). Don't get your hopes up, I'm not breaking NDAs to spare or excite anyone.

Look, some people think Roseanne Arnold is a sexy lady, that doesn't make them right. Sonic fans have used the "you haven't played it so you don't know" and "that's just your opinion" whining for a decade now, it hasn't improved the quality of the games. The team-change is the best thing that could have realistically happened for Sonic 4, but it's not a magic charm that will bring back the joy of the mid-90s Sonic.
what happened to the liquid 2d artsy thingy that was floating all over the web. disappointed it didn't go in that direction:(

It hasn't improved the quality of the game, but, it still holds true: you don't know till you've played it. Which is why I usually play the newer Sonic games before I hate on them.If you're on PartnerNet, that's cool. No need to break any NDAs, I'm well-spoiled.
You know, that game reminded me a bit of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (used to be a sonic fan during my middle and high school careers).

Splash Hill looks awfully familiar...
Something about this game looks awfully unnatural. The old games were simpler somehow. This looks a bit less connected. Can't explain it that well.
That level is so similar to green hill zone in Sonic 1 that I kind of got bored watching it.
Pretty bland really. Hope the other levels aren't just generic copies too.

I agree....except I want to see the Starlight Zone in HD, with music intact. And a zone which is a rip off of marble zone and the traditional Casino Zone.
That's it I'm digging out Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
I have my doubts about the legitimacy of the video.
Wasn't this the same quality camera we saw when the first video was leaked, and it turned out to be the pre-alpha of the game?
Not trying to credit or discredit the game yet, but I just need a legit release before judging whether the game is good or bad.
Cons/ Problems
1. Sonic's "mid range speed" is animated really funny. He's moving faster, but his feet don't agree.
2. Sonic isn't spinning fast enough when he's jumping. It looks really slow.
3. Sonic floats too much when he jumps, that might be because he'll use the homing attack... but still.
4. Why does Sonic after a jump always look like he's falling? It looks dumb.
Pro's
1. Sonic's full speed run actually looks like the older games, sweet.
2. The gameplay is nothing like the daytime levels in Sonic Unleashed, which is great. Sonic is not purely speed but precision platforming as well.
3. Graphics didn't bother me too much.
4. The sound was old school, which is sweet.

Don´t forget Scrap Brain and Labyrinth zone! :PDon´t forget Scrap Brain and Labyrinth zone! :PArach666
I will give you Scrap Brain before they go indoors (act 2 I think), but no more Labyrinth!
Awesome style, but water levels on sonic were so annoying I almost smashed a controller. It's meant to be fast!

I actually enjoy some water levels in the sonic games, mainly Aquatic Ruin,Hydrocity and even Labyrinth, although I don´t like the water sections in Carnival Night,Launch base and Ice Cap. But what I hate the most is the casino based levels like Spring Yard,Carnival Night,Casino Night and Sprig Stadium. Oh,and if you hated Labyrinth,I guess you went crazy when you first got to Scrap Brain 3:PPlease Log In to post.
