[QUOTE="Jynxzor"]Seriously why didn't they just go for some wicked awesome HD 2D animations, instead of this "quasi 2-3d" I guess they only got part of the message that Sonic was only good when it was 2d.subrosian

Here's the thing, when Sonic was at his height, 2D gaming was at its finest, the youthful talent of the industry was attracted to such games, and the AAA-focus was being put towards the Sonic series. It was the Halo or God of War of its time. There was a literal union of hardware and software being put towards it. Now we get the team behind the Sonic Rush series. Is that good?

-

Eh.

-

It's probably better than the fetid, bug-infested crap that most 3D Sonic games have been... but there's little chance it will be any better than, say, Sonic Rush, or the "pseudo-3D" titles on the PSP. This isn't the first time they have done 2D Sonic, doing a kinda-2D Sonic on consoles isn't much better than doing it on a DS or a PSP. Why would the design be better? Why would the music or animation suddenly be tighter?

-

Same people. Same budget. Same basic development process - they just said "cut the crappy characters, make it play in 2D and "call it Sonic 4 so we can market it as though the 3D games never happened". It's the same crap, and we're complete suckers if we trust them before the bad reviews come out.

I guess your right, what point is putting faith in the Sonic Team when we have seen them fail miserably time, and time again.

[QUOTE="Arach666"]Don´t forget Scrap Brain and Labyrinth zone! :P

Arach666

I will give you Scrap Brain before they go indoors (act 2 I think), but no more Labyrinth!

Awesome style, but water levels on sonic were so annoying I almost smashed a controller. It's meant to be fast!

I actually enjoy some water levels in the sonic games, mainly Aquatic Ruin,Hydrocity and even Labyrinth, although I don´t like the water sections in Carnival Night,Launch base and Ice Cap. But what I hate the most is the casino based levels like Spring Yard,Carnival Night,Casino Night and Sprig Stadium. Oh,and if you hated Labyrinth,I guess you went crazy when you first got to Scrap Brain 3:P

You know I did. Frustration, thy name is water. I loved the casino levels though, colourful, fast, easy rings, what's not to like?

Are they really getting Dimps to develop this?

I know I may be in a minority, but I hated Sonic Rush more than some of Sonic's worst 3D outings. It was just so dull and a complete bastardisation of everything that was cool about the original Sonic games.

You can't help but wonder will the same thing that happened to Sonic happen to God of War or Halo one day. You would like to think companies would know better. We have seen way to many times though when that was not the case.

I can see it now. Kratos Unleashed: Tired of brutally murdering the gods of olympus? Well good because by now you have not only killed them all, but followed them to their version of the afterlife where Gods become normal humans. In this alternate reality Kratos goes from savage murderous god slayer, to Kratos the soul crushing boss who overbears the reincarnation of the gods. Kratos: Ares I need those 1200 page reports on my desk by lunch Ares: But my kids got a soccer game! Kratos: Whats more important to you? This job...or your familly!

[QUOTE="Deiuos"]Little chance to be better than Sonic Rush? It's made by the developers who MADE Sonic Rush. It can be better.subrosian
I'm not quite certain how "X is greater than X" is a valid statement. If you're trying to suggest they're improving with time, their track record stands against you. They are simply a team that puts out 7.0 ~ 8.0 range games, they are not a AAA machine. On the other hand, that's still better than what most Sonic games have been of-late. I'd much rather see a "Sonic 4 - 7.5" effort than another "holy crap this suck - 3.5" type game. - Anyone expecting a game better than an "okay tribute to Sonic's past" is putting expectations on the team that are unrealistic. You are going to be disappointed, or worse, contribute to the blind "Sonic worship" that continues to insist Sonic Rush on the 360 was "misunderstood" or that "Sonic the Hedgehog" was crap simply because it was rushed.

It may not be better than sonic rush. But there is little evidence that suggests it will be of lesser quality either. So far, the Sonic Rush series has been AA quality -and no, I'm not going by the scores, I'm going by my own experience- So there is a good chance that these developers could learn from what they did right on that series and implement it even better with more powerful hardware. Granted, AAA seems to be out of the question - Though even that isn't quite certain, given how surprising this generation has become- but AA seems like a realistic target. In fact, that's what I'm anticipating this title as of now, a solid AA title, and I hope it delivers. Sonic has gone downhill amazingly fast.. But I'm just not ready to let go yet. I still have hope, And this time around, I think my hope isn't misplaced.

Ok, I really don't understand the hate that this game is getting. Only one Act is shown in that video, and yet people are already declareing it a massive failure. I honestly thought Sonic's animations were fairly good, the level design looked solid, and the graphics looked very nice.

I understand there is a large degree of distrust towards Sonic Team and their ability to produce a good Sonic game, but I say this game should be given a fair shot before everyone blasts it. All I've seen so far all over the internet is needless nickpicking over the smallest things even though little of the game has been shown.

I'm aware people have their own vision of what Sonic 4 should be, but it seems like Sega can't seem to win.

I agree the running animation needs work, its like they are missing a speed. He goes from slow straight into blurred, they need a faster one in between. As a whole though I'm not complaining. This is a massive step in the right direction that has been long overdue and I'll definitely be buying it. Anyone that isn't going to buy it for such a small reason is foolish in my opinion, at least Sega are finally doing something right. If no one buys this they are probably gonna go straight back to Wharehog, so everyone get it!

Sonic just doesn't look as badass as he was in on the genesis. It's not just the awkward running animation, the whole art direction is too cartoony and pales in comparrison. Music sounds horrid as well.

This would of been so much better. Thats how I envisioned a ****c sonic remake.

Looks like the best Sonic game in a long time that captures the feel of the originals but it's still not quite right.

A lot of the animations do look a little bit off, such as when he is in ball form, but it's not quite a spherical ball (just make it a nice circle, I'm sure we can all use a little suspension of disbelief to convince ourselves it would work), and when he is in that strange starfish position in the air (WTF), and the run still isn't quite right either. It's not terrible stuff but it's not quite right.

Some of the enemies look a bit strange too being a bit too cell shaded and flat looking to fit in properly with the rest of the game, and the Sonic character himself isn't quite right.

It also looks a little bit too zoomed in maybe.

Still, compared to some of the recent Sonic games this is looking good.

You guys know that the guy who leaked this was the same one that leaked that footage about 1 month ago right? The same person who uses PartnerNet. Which means, this is the exact same version from a month ago.

I've never seen such nitpicking in all my life.

looks alright. Not a fan of the animations like others..also, I'm pretty sure you could continue the speedroll (was it called speedroll?) when you shoot up in the air..now you do a wonky "Oh, I'm falling" animation leaving you vulnerable to enemies..

Aside from some animation issue, this looks like a pretty good Sonic games compare to the other recent ones for this series.

I already mentioned that the video was from the same person that had the same pre-alpha build that was taken down by Sega. Someone uploaded it to Youtube and it has been deleted by now.
