who here also thinks there is a lack of innovative games this gen?

and wii fans dont say your motion sensing remote controlling games are innovative because they are not, there are a few but not alot.

i think so far only sony's first party games have been doing a good job.

locoroco, patapon, echochrome, pixeljunk eden little big planet etc.

these games so far have been very simple, yet so innovative and greatly addictive to play, anyone agree?

Yeah Sony have been quite innovative. Nintendo are too with the "Wii ____" series. Microsoft are more concerned with covering the traditional games. Although Banjo looks amazing!

Agree, but the company with zero innovation is the MS.

Really wtf did they introduce this gen? (Except for buying games, paying for online (=rip-off) and RROD?)

well i mainlybought my wii to play wii first party games and gc. A few good third party games for the wii was just a plus for me. Even though their first party is lacking. There are some promising ones coming out. Anyhow, even if ppl might bash the third party aspect, nintendo themselves make some good $***. The whole "i dont want to swing my arm around like an idiot" is blown out of proportion.

the 360 is looking pretty good too. Their game library has the most variety and their familiar format makes it convenient for devs. Sure it has multiple disks but it's only takes a few seconds to get up and change disks. Now if they can show their support for 360 games for their future console to come, it will show alot of ppl relief and open up potential sales. Also there is that whole RROD argument. I've had a total of 6 rrods until i sold it along with my games. If they fix that up then it would be awesome.

For the ps3 however, yes, games on that system appeal to me more. But, I would also like some rpgs to come. Even though I don't like this timed exclusive nonsense and their delays. Yes they give u more for ur buck with their blu ray. But I'm not looking for too many features. I just want a game console. Yes they have good games despite what others might say. A little bit of variety in the ps3 games wouldnt hurt them. Paying for some third party games wont kill them either. Mayb if they confirmed some exclusives they might be doing pretty well right now. Screw their 10 year plan lol.

Every console is majorly flawed in one aspect or the other. It all depends on ur expectations of ur console i guess.

The fact that Microsoft's products tend to fail has become an innovative form of brand recognition with Microsoft products. BSOD, RROD and whatever else there is assure the consumer that what they bought is truly a Microsoft product.

pixeljunk eden and little big planet are only published by sony. All the inovation in these games came from outside sony. Still though the other games the TC mentioned are more innovative that anything MS have done this gen.

Adding gimmicks to previous gameplay formats isn't innovation. But they are doing a few innovative things.

Innovation should first start with gameplay.

Some people are wandering where the platformer has gone, or the scrolling shooter, while others moan theres no innovation. The wii mote is innovative hardware although no entirely original. MS is doing good things with the xbox by building on tried and tested styles that people do still want, and added online for consoles but did it well. Nintendo want to give people the old fun element of gaming rather than trying to produce bigger games with better graphics. Sony are trying to do new things because they know that to stand out they need to do something different because lets be honest, MS is doing just as good a job as they are but have had the years head start.

There will always innovative titles around each generation but that innovation takes time. Enjoy what there is and remember that if you people dont buy these innovative titles devs wont want to take a risk with them.

dunno, sony's games are quite inovative, there is no questioning that, but in a way every Wii and DS game is inovative due to it's controll scheme, specially if you count games like Wiisports or Legend of zelda for the DS, my point is the only people who complain about the lack of inovation are the one who didn't buy a Wii nor a DS, if you wanted fish then why did you buy meat?

EDIT: by wiisports i meant Wiifit my bad

the1stmoonfly

You are very correct but by ms giving us the tried and tested games i.e. what sells they are not allowing for innovative games to push through.

sony has made locoroco, patapon etc and many ppl have enjoyed these games therefore they are pushing forward with many more games like that on the psn i.e. pixeljunk eden, flower, echocrome etc.

hopefully these titles will lead to a full ps3 title and not just a psn download.

nintendo are giving original ideas, but the hardware being innovative does not equal innovative software. although there are a good few like that hospital game where you have to heal wounds etc i think that is great game.

I don't think online gaming is a real innovation and certainly not if you have to pay 50 buck a year. But it's true that live had some improvements but they are outshadowed by the fee, paying for online is just a RIP-OFF.

price has nothing to do with inovation, would LBP be any less inovative if it were priced at 150 dollars?

i agree

One of the reasons I got a ps3 was for lbp. Its the most innovative game I laid my eyes on this gen next to mirror's edge. Kudos to Sony.

The biggest innovative game wont come from Nintendo, it will come from Team Ico :)Swift_Boss_A

Shadow of the Colossus was basically 16 Zelda boss battles...

Still awesome though :)

Sony do indeed seem to be bringing some innovative titles to the table, well I think so anyway.

I get what your saying but would sony be looking at this stuff if MS hadnt joined the race. I think in a way we have to thank MS for their part in the puzzle, other wise i have no doubt sony would just be churning the tried and tested out. MS have tried a bit with Viva Pinata but it didnt apeal to the masses. This is the trouble with innovation, unless devs are forced into haveing to innovate they generally dont like to take the risk. Nintendo had to because they were simply being out powered by the big guns, and what they're doing is fun and has obvoius appeal as well as a market. Sony have to to try stand out from MS in someway, and we have to indirectly be greatful to MS for creating that situation.

can st1ka and kinght-k shush now. this thread is not for silly cheap dissing of eachother and eachothers opinions.

this thread is about innovative games this gen.

st1ka do you agree that sony has so far done the best job of giving us innovative games this gen?

if not why? and who has?

st1ka

Now really I want to know what st1ka thinks about MS and innovation...

(lol if he says viva pinata)

Exactly. Innovation from MS doesn't lie directly in the games, but in developing an innovatiive infrastructure that affects all games that are played on the platform.

To expand on the example St1ka gave, we have all of the functionality in the 360 dashboard. It really is a vast improvement on last gen's traditional options menus when a console is booted without a game.

Then we have the mandatory achievements that are tracked by MS, and shareable on forums, blogs, websites, etc.

With the 360, there's a large focus on community. They have very visible and accessible community managers/personalites. From what I've see, no other platform holder is as plugged into their community as the 360 is. There's also the Community Calendar and Community Developer Program. And functionally, everything is very well thought out and connected. Your MS passport account gives you access to Xbox Live, MSN Messenger, MSN Spaces, and the Xbox website, where you have a full profile page.

So there you go. What MS brings to the table is their holistic approach to gaming. The gaming experience exists when you turn on the console. But it also exists before and after you play your games.

again you are right i agree 100%.

at the same time ms should really be doing something with their own inhouse game studio. because third party games gets you only so far. without your own established first party exclusives to support you in case all major third party games go multiplat, standing on your own will be very difficult.

which is why i think ms needs to stop with the 'buying every exlcusive off sony' and actually create its own games.

im not bashing but you have to admit there money has allowed them to get far and in the position they are in. is good on them but is not good for the overall gaming market because they keeping the market in a stationary position with tried and tested generic games releasing one after the other with only a handful of developers taking the step forward to do something different.

nintendo ias doing their own thing and i think they have done a good job with the casual market. but they need to really bring some more hardcore games soon in order to stand up to the many great games lined up for 08-09 for ms and sony.
