If by merge you mean Sony going under and MS buying all their developement studios and the rights to all Sony IPs......then yes, they should merge.

Anyways, a merge would be virtuallyimpossible, especially if it's just to make a better video game console. Video games are only a small part of what each of those two companies do, as opposed to Nintendo. Strange how the people in charge of two out of three consoles are the only ones that don't focus entirely on video games. Why can't EA make a console? Or how about Activision/Blizzard?

Could you imagine a company of that size. Those are two industry leaders in Hardware and Software manufacturing. Even some of the stuff in the Wii is a product of those two companies. If that happened it would be horrible.

There's still Nintendo and the PC. That's an oligopoly, not a monopoly.

microsoft owns the PC. any games that comes out on pc, microsoft gets revenue for it.
in the end sony and mikysoft would still have a monopoly in the home console market.

teamed competition drives the market forward just look at ww2.

The last thing we need to raise the price is a monopoly who doesnt but a major effort into there work because they know your there only option.

also sony and microsft are in two diff markets. Only in a few areas like gaming do they cross
