Nintendo, Sony AND Microsoft disallow AO games on their hardware... why would nintendo all of a sudden change their ways simply because they want to cater to the sick and disturbed?

AO games are banned from all consoles.

So unless Take Two wins an appeal, this game isn't coming out July 10th

I think everyone that read the previews on this game and even heard about it saw this coming. Like said it isn't just Nintendo but both Sony and Microsoft don't allow AO games. If Sega were still in the console race they'd have the same policy.

Rockstar should have known this was going to happen from the very start. They already were going to be watched closely due to what happen with GTA:San Andreas, did they honestly think while developing Manhunt 2 that things would be okay with pushing things even further compared to Manhunt 1?

Now maybe they did this on purpose and actually have a normal M rated version done but wanted to get their names in the news before they released the game. However that seems extremely risky with how people can be about trying to bring the hammer down on games like this. Not to mention there was the whole issue with new laws wanting to be made cause it seemed like the ESRB wasn't doing their job. Can anyone else imagine the storm that would took place had the ESRB had actually given this game a M rating instead of putting the AO label on it?

I think they themselves saved us all a lot of trouble in the future by doing this. It not only shows people they are doing their job and putting clear limit on what is acceptable and what will be endorsed. Rockstar either has another version ready or they are either really arrogant or stupid think that this wouldn't happen.

oh....a little surprising. i would have thought that all 3 would let any game on their systems at this stage. i guess there all terrified of the bad press. a little dissapointed i have to admit....dam political pressure and all that jazz.

still R* really need to tone it down to M rated now. not only is there market much smaller....it has no platform :S.

Disgusting in the extreme. Is there any content regulation for Blu-ray movies, or for that matter, DVDs? I can thrust the filthiest, raunchiest, most degrading porn into any of this generation's consoles (well, except Nintendo's, I guess) or last generation's consoles (well, except Nintendo's, I guess) and at the worst all I'll have to do is tell the console that I want to bypass its adult content warnings. This is because I'm an adult. It's very sad that these corporations feel the need to pretend that they should be responsible for the contents of the gaming media that their players play, especially when they drop the pretense for the contents of their video media. Does anybody else see a clear inconsistency here?

dude if it come to the PC there would be a mod to add wii mote support. As I see it if you are 18+ and have any of the major consoles then your screwed, because that console is trying to appeal to a younger audience, which means you're screwed, and the devs are screwed since they are being limited.

Exactly. All consoles have a parental lock, and all stores are inforcing the rating boards even more now then ever. Yet, they still ban games. The game was made to cater to the people who want to play it, and obviously they knew it would get an AO rating, so the game isn't ment for kids. This is so stupid. They throw all this censorship at us, and don't even use it, they just go one step further and ban the game. Either take out the ESRB and parental locks, or don't do this crap.

This is biased against Manhunt 2. Both Leisure Suit Larry: Uncut and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas have been rated AO by the ESRB at some point or another, yet somehow they are allowed to be released on the Sony PS2 system? Sony and Nintendo obviously felt threatened by any sort of media connection with the controversial game, and so very cowardly pulled the plug on its release.

This does raise a valid point about ESRB ratings though -- apart from pornographic material in "specialist" PC titles, what purpose does the Adults Only rating have? If neither Sony or Nintendo will allow AO rated content on their console, shouldn't the ESRB just axe the rating and set up a dedicated pornographic material descriptor, or should they start using M as the new maximum rating?

Yes, partly why I just wish we had PC gaming only, I mean, with PC gaming, you don't need an expensive dev kit to develope games for corporate people, because well, the PCs are the dev kits, we're on dev kits, we can dev games, etc. Also, this whole standards and requirement things the 3 are doing is kind of annoying. They tell them how large a file can be on the network downloads, to release a simple downloadable games, they have to find it well enough for there system, with a PC, I could release a game, that many might not find that great, but I as an individual without corporate backing might see financial potential and sell it digitally. That just can't happen on the consoles, it's like they're a second publisher.

I'm 18! I'm an adult! I can smoke, I can drink, I can drive a car, I can go to war and kill people or be killed myself, I can watch sick movies like hostel, saw, wolf creek, texas chainsaw.

From a pragmatic point of view, keep in mind that liabilities resulting from the licensing of DVD materials are shared across the entire DVD forum, whereas liabilities resulting from the licensing of a platform-specific game are squarely on the platform holder. The behavior may not be consistent but neither is the level of risk.

M should be the maximum rating, I mean, 18 or 17 year olds, AO and M, that's one year difference, pointless. A 17 year old who can handle Manhunt can handle pr0n. However, to disefer the two, they could have M and M+(Like super M), where the regular one would be the regular M, but the + one would be 17+ as well, but to a worse extent, let's say you're 17, you could still buy it, however, if a parent is okay with buying a normal 17+ game, then they can, but if it's super M, they might reconsider for their kid.

I agree, M should be the maximum rating, but what I was wondering was why even have anything above it? If, like I said before, only pornographic PC games (hentai, virtual sex, voyeur etc.) seem to achieve an AO rating, then why not simply set up a new pornographic material descriptor out-with the ESRB? Simply put, end the ESRB ratings at M and get a governmental organisation to handle the porno.

Good! Manhunt 2 is a disgrace to games. It should not be allowed on the Wii, PC, PS3, X-Box 360, DS, or PSP.

It should be burnt.

End of story.

some info has come out on why its AO and why sony an dnintendo banned it unless edited

"The ultra-violent videogame Manhunt 2 allows you to rape a woman shortly after you beheaded her in the brothel level called Honey Pot. Members of the ESRB were shocked when Daniel Lamb used his male reproduction organ and simulated a penetration in the bloody hole. Other gruesome parts include microwaving a living cat to death and being a witness of necrophilia in a cemetery in one of the later stage of the game."

Well, of course these corporations' decision is profit-motivated; they are corporations. That doesn't make me any less sad about this.
