Sony basically forced Microsoft to change their policies

By staying in line with consumer needs. If PS4 wasn't outselling in pre0orders (and still is) the X1 by a massive margin, MS would've proceeded to try and destroy the industry. Sony basically did this to MS:

Technically gamers that pre-ordered the PS4 over the Xbone saved gaming...don't get me wrong I truely appriciate Sony not trying to screw us over.  But if Xbone pre-orders were still doing well MS wouldn't have changed their policies.  MS could have changed their policies after the PS4 reveal on policies at E3.  Instead they chose to wait and see the pre-order numbers.

I would say gamers forced MS to change. They underestimated the community. Of course there was those few die-hards, but it wasn't enough. Anyway I got my PC, Wii U, 3DS, and getting a PS4 and maybe a ..... Vita. Screw the Xbox One-80 maybe for a major price drop.

no. if MS wouldve released their console for $399 and everybody was buying it up but people were still complaining, MS wouldnt have changed a thing.God forbid if MS wouldve said at e3 $299!!!! there would be 10 million new lems on this site. the net made MS change, not sony. and although it literally set gaming back almost 20 yrs, at least we can let people borrow r games :lol:

Unfortunately thats true... wish lems did the same instead of Happily accepting paying for online, cause probably everybody today including future PS4 owners would still play online for free !!

Sony was wise this time and should they support properly their system I think they have a very good chance of getting back on top !!

It was a culmination of negative critical press, Sony, pre order sales, and word-of-mouth from gamers.  Regardless, MS damaged the xbox brand.  They should drop the price down, but that in effect can give an even further negative perception on the product.  I bet MS combats the higher price by either including a pack-in game, or one free year of xbox live gold.

My favorite part about all this is how before E3, the lems kept saying Sony would follow Microsoft because Microsoft ran things and Sony is just a follower. Meh maybe...MS were slow out of the gated (snail pace) thats for sure. But the marketing campaign hasnt kicked in yet. The only people who are going to be clued up on either console are those who are actively seeking information about it online.

I predict a monumental television campaign from MS, they have placed a big emphasis on the "all in one" focus of the box. It would be ridiculous if they didnt capitalise that by dominating the tv sets for a few months.

Technically speaking Sony was the one that spearheaded pay to play services in SOE with games like Everquest coming out in the late 90s.. Just saying.. To suggest that one company is against charging people if they can for profits is fanboy idiocy at it finest..
