If you have the digital version of these games on PS4 you'll get a free upgrade to the PS5 version. If you have a disc version you'll get a free upgrade if you own the PS5 console with a disc drive.

So H: FW, GT7 and GoW: R are literally PS4 games with a minor upgrade patch for the PS5? :-S
Wow, Sony is Really bringing it this gen. *Sarcasm.
Your screen shot doesn't portray what you're implying. Where's the $10 upgrade fee if you have the PS4 disc?
In fact my screenshot does prove it. If PS4 and PS5 were the same version they wouldn't have two seperate entries, as it would just say:
Standard Edition
And that is besides the fact that if you want to have it on both PS4 and PS5 (which Sony claimed in 2020 was free) you have to pay a whopping €80/$80
What a joke!

He's talking about the Deluxe Edition in the middle pick that says HFW PS4/PS5 and it's price at $80 meaning the $10 is a hidden fee.
Anyway, I'll settle for the PS4 version...unless I hear about PC version before this game release, I'll hold off on the PC version.

I'll buy the PS5 version, as I'm a fan of the first game. But Sony came back on their word big time.
This is the exact opposite of what they announced last year. As they wanted to hype up the PS5 some more, with the console still sold out everywhere, they can just about get away with anything.
Lol console suckers have been paying twice for the next-gen version of their games for years. In times past you wouldn’t even get the option to upgrade.
By getting a console you accepted to be slaves to your corporate masters. Now is too late to complain.
You’re the ones who told Sony you were OK with this. Wake up and smell the coffee.

"Bu buh but you poor and can't afford to buy games" That was their damage control.
@Pedro: Sony is getting complacent. Once Microsoft starts rolling with the heavy-hitters, they might not get off so easy anymore.
Then again, their crowd is the same that applauded them for making online paid when it was free despite shitting on Microsoft for the same reason for years.
It's actually a lot worse than that. There's actually no upgrade path. lol
Can I upgrade my PS4 version to the PS5 version?
If you want to have access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West, please purchase the Digital Deluxe, Collector’s, or Regalla Editions. Dual entitlement does not apply to the Standard and Special Editions.
Can I upgrade my Standard Edition to the Digital Deluxe edition of Horizon Forbidden West?
There are no plans for an update offer from standard to digital deluxe edition at this time.

@R4gn4r0k: Why would you want both copies? 😕
I want Sony to do what they promised back in 2020:

Just sad.
@Pedro: it just blows my mind that Sony Fanboys don't just buy a PC and throw the PS5 away. The PC is getting everything anyway except for a Nintendo exclusives which I know Sony Fanboys hate Nintendo exclusive anyway so I shouldn't even bring Nintendo up right now. But if they had any common sense they would just support the PC platform which is still getting Sony first-party games as well as Microsoft first-party games as well as all 3rd party games under the sun. the PC is a better deal anyway. Come on Sony Fanboys use your brains.
Milked milked milked
Wow...
This is so messy, they are messing up big time with the cross gen stuff..
These were the people who said "we believe in generations" before launch of the PS5...
Now they got you guys paying premiums for upgrades of PS4 games
@R4gn4r0k: Did a bit more digging and it appears you're right. Not sure who decided this but it's anti-consumer. I think they're hoping the backlash is lesser given the verbiage used of "launch games" having free PS4 to PS5 upgrades and Horizon FW definitely not being in the launch window any longer. Clearly they don't know how bad this makes them look and I don't blame people for being pissed.
Cows absence from this thread speaks volumes, and is why Sony can charge what they want and tell as many lies as they like, cows take it dry from Sony, and thank them after
The fanbase that keeps on giving the laughter
Sony lmao, they keep owning themselves. First the cheapened parts in the v2 of ps5. I was suspicious af, who brings out a refresh console not even 8 months from launch. I should have figured with sony there was an ulterior motive. Now $10 upgrades to games you already own, and some games double charge you even if you have the ps4 version. SAD cows. You're getting milked so hard it's just sad. You should just come over to the MS side..the grass is much greener over here and you won't be milked as badly promise

It makes sense really. Last year in September they were building up hype for their new console:
"Horizon is launching on PS4 too but... You guys get a free upgrade to PS5" - Sony being very pro consumer
flash forward to 2021, not a single PS5 has ever been in stock, and this gives Sony to do the freedom to whatever they want really.
I'm sure charging for Ghost of tsushima and Horizon upgrades wasn't the plan from the start.
Stands to reason if you get a next gen system without a disc drive one might have issues playing physical BC games or using the physical disc to play the next gen upgrade.
Edit: Derp, think I misread something somewhere. Anyhow, jeez, no like paying the $10 to upgrade? Sheesh. And if someone pays for the £70 version does that give them dual entitlement to both PS4 and PS5 versions? It doesn't appear so. Just the £80 version... and games in UK are £60 to £80?!
@navyguy21: What charging for photo mode unlock?
So apparently certain poses that Aloy can strike in photo mode (a feature in the first game too) are locked behind the more expensive version, the middle version in the OP's picture, check it out.
That image still doesnt confirm theyll charge if you already own the disk, just showing the cost of both versions indivudually.
Im more bothered by the charging for photo mode unlocks.
Seriously?? Is that where we are?
Gamespot has this story on its main page. Pretty much confirmed.
I do think they should offer an upgrade path at the very least but, if I had to guess, this is a direct result of Spiderman: Miles.
I think a significant portion of sales will be next gen and, folks who will be buying the PS4 version are very likely not going to be jumping on the PS5 train any time soon.
It sucks because supply is still not meeting demand but, this will very likely push more people to the PS5 from PS4 granted it will hurt the game sales in the short term imo.
For me its not really a concern because I already have a ps5. If a game is on a older console and a newer console and I dont have the newer console yet I am likely either going to wait to get the newer console before I get the game and if I do get the game on the older console it likely means it will be a while before I get the newer console meaning by the time I get the newer console if I want to get the game again its likely going to be a lot cheaper than. But it is very anti consumer. I think what's worse is the fact that if you wanted to upgrade from ps4 to ps5 version of a game like ghost of tushima having to pay like $10. I also think its even worse that there is a $200 and a $260 version of Forbidden west that doesn't come with a disc but only a digital code. Like WTH is that?
It's a strange one but at this point I don't care about PS4. It might sound bad but I have a ps5 for a reason and thats to play the better version.
I must say that the gif of Jim Ryan’s head on the dancing Les Grossman character from Tropic Thunder is an entirely apt representation in all the wrong ways. 😅
LMAO, where are the usual cow suspects??!! Avoiding this thread like the plague.
Anyway I'm not surprised by this. This is why MS is the market leader in customer friendly policies.
Sony isn't doing things to make me want to support them like I always have in the past. Doing stuff like this is just anti-consumer. I can't find a PS5 even if I wanted one, but if I wanted to get this game with the hopes of being able to play it on the PS5 in the future, I would have to pay $80 so I could play it on the PS4 until I get a PS5? That is just not right when the competition is offering free upgrades and hasn't increased their game prices to $70. What is Sony doing? I hope fans don't just swallow this and really voice their disappointment.
