Meh, it'd be dumb to get the PS4 version in the first place.

That’s because they’re the only options. If you can’t find a ps5 and buy the PS4 version of the game, there’s no way to upgrade to the ps5 version later - apart from buying the game again.
Yeah, despicable how much these companies lie in order to rack up early sales...
I'll be fine with my PS4 for the years to come, thank you. Im in no hurry to get a PS5
Folks on this board swore that PS would have to react to what Xbox has been doing as far as being “consumer friendly.” Well it looks like PS is moving in the exact opposite direction. They must have some data that shows this is the way to go.
One company is charging extra money for their games. The other is practically giving them away. Other than a couple teraflops and a little ssd speed, this is the only difference between the consoles. In fact, it’s the biggest difference.
Sony has no reason to change their ways until people stop buying their shit ... which doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon.
Props to MS for how they've handled it and also backwards compatibility. Not sure if it's paying off but it's appreciated.
Well, shit. Good thing I'm not getting a PS5 as I'm patient enough with waiting for Sony games to come to PC.
Lol, I think there are fewer cows in this thread than in a vegan shop.
Can't wait to see their defense of this. Look like we had one attempt that failed already 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Of course you need to change direction before people stop buying your product.
People won't stop buying, but Sony has a convoluted and constantly changing upgrade path... It's simply bad.

yep, because we all know being super arrogant in the gaming industry has always ended great..

But we’re almost a year in, and PS is pushing even further in the opposite direction. Usually we’d see a pivot starting to happen. For example, Xbox pulled the Kinect out of the box and sold the Xbox One at $399 just 7 months after launch.
Maybe the hardware shortages are giving PS a false sense of security. I honestly think if the Xbox supply was better, the sales gap would be much closer.
There is just no possible way to view this news in a positive light if you're looking at it from a consumer point of view. Sony is having all kinds of issues right now with their bleak game lineup for the foreseeable future.
This certainly does not help. Their best bet right now is that the majority of people that buy consoles have no idea about policies like this. The mother buying the ps5 for their kid doesn't know this. The kid doesn't care either because they're not the ones buying the game.
This is a calculated decision by Sony to help them earn more money. It will work too. The people defending them (whenever they come to this thread) can only really defend them from a capitalist point of view. And we are all consumers.
You know for a while there I thought Sony might actually be trying to compete on the price level, but it seems like they're saying screw it and just going after the "Deluxe premium" venue. Which is a ripoff, but people love to equate cost to quality.
This is some BS from Sony they want people to buy the 80$ versions, if they at least made the ps5 70$ Version capable to play on PS4 and ps5 that would be fair somewhat, dose not affect me but dose gamers who are still trying to find a ps5 some business crap right here hope people complain about it on PlayStation blog
Now that's crazy.
The only ones really benefiting from this are PS5 owners moving forward with their PS5 version.
This is why I prefer the Xbox ecosystem, their infrastructure and engineering team are far more focused and goals far better planned.

as long as Sony fans don't care, Sony won't care.. just like any other business (including Microsoft), their number one goal is to make money.. and if they can get away with charging an extra $10~$20 for next-gen upgrades due to confusing anti-consumer policies, they're going to do so..
Microsoft would do the same but they got their faces stomped in by the PS4 so they can't..
But I still believe there is a tipping point.. if Xbox can keep winning these PR battles with consumer friendly moves and their first-party studios can actually start pumping out quality titles (which is very possible with the Bethesda acquisition), the tides can eventually start to turn.. that's a really big "if" though..
Well that sucks...
Pretty funny how the dumb fanboys are avoiding this thread though but that's to be expected by now.
Hopefully Sony changes this, for shame.
Minimal effort for Maximum profit.
Sony stole it from Nintendo, and now they're trying to make it their own.
I was gonna come in here and have fun on Sony and their fanboys expense, but everyone agrees this move was retarded. And all the Sony fanboys went into hiding.

Sony is like the EA of consoles. Everyone buys their shit, so they can actively screw their own customers without it having a negative effect on the company. Some nerds on the internet will be angry, who cares when the rest of the world buys their shit.
Lol console suckers have been paying twice for the next-gen version of their games for years. In times past you wouldn’t even get the option to upgrade.
By getting a console you accepted to be slaves to your corporate masters, now is too late to complain.
You’re the ones who told Sony you were OK with this. Wake up and smell the coffee.
"Bu buh but you poor and can't afford to buy games" That was their damage control.
Oh great! Good to know there are more classists in this community (hell, met a few in System Wars). Ugh...
