@Shewgenja: It's a dumb response in that GameBoyTroy tried to imply the PS1/N64/Saturn era had two platforms, It had far more than two.

@charizard1605: The video game market was doing fine before the Xbox division was even a thought.
Yes, I don't understand this notion that the gaming industry will collapse if MS were to step out. What exactly is MS providing now to the industry that's so important? They have been a lousy competitor this gen, I bet there are many companies out there that can do a much better job.
I actually don't think it would collapse if any single one of the 3 right now would step out, some would have a bigger impact than others but the industry will create space for other companies to step in.
@pinkanimal: We need Microsoft, its Sony that brings nothing to the table. Sony just copies everyone. At least Microsoft tries to do things a little different. Sony is just not needed, well be fine with just Microsoft, Nintendo, Apple, and Steam.

Sony brings nothing? Last I checked Sony has one of the best game libraries of all systems this gen while MS library is beyond pathetic. I'm a gamer so I care mostly about games and Sony destroys MS in the game department.
@pinkanimal: Nah, PC does. If you really cared about games that much, you wouldnt be wasting your time on a Sony device.
sony can watch all they want....
they have no answer for the switch.
Yes they need an answer to switch because the Switch is crushing PS4 and it's excellent library of AAA and AAAE's....... /sarcasm
@pinkanimal: Nah, PC does. If you really cared about games that much, you wouldnt be wasting your time on a Sony device.
Why not? Sony has great games that are not on PC. But the same can be said for any other system that is not a PC then since the PC has so many more games than any other system.
sony can watch all they want....
they have no answer for the switch.
their answer to the DS? power! (psp)
their answer to the 3DS? power! (vita)
their answer to the switch tegra nvdia x1? ummm... an tegra x2? lol good luck making that affordable.
they cant copy this gimmick like the move controller in wii days and vita remote play in wiiU days.\
they cant copy the switch gimmick because quess what? it is not a gimmick! lol
i mean they do fine with thier 3rd party deals and consoles....but they can't copy or do anything to 1up the switch. no matter how hard they try
Which is fine, Sony does excellently with traditional consoles and that is what it should stick to. Nintendo does well doing its own thing, and that is what it should stick to.
@charizard1605: Good, now for the next console scrap the gimmicky shit, give us hardware that's comparable to everyone else, and lure the 3rd party devs back!
MS can fade into obscurity, and we'll be back to 2 major players just like the Nintendo/Sega days. Except it will be Sony/Nintendo.
I hate to tell the Xbox hater idiots is that if that happens the Videogame market will crash. This Industry is set up to support at least 3 major players. If one goes down it will trigger a crash.
The video game market was doing fine in the PS1/N64/Saturn generation.
Okay, count how many consoles there were in the generation you just named, re-read the post you responded to, and then think about why your response is dumb.
Seeing how the saturn were pretty much being dead at the height of PS1s popularity, I don't see your point at all.
Are they going to do the same when the Xbox One X sells out.
Why would it sell out?
The reality will be people will look at the very popular and cheap PS4, or if they want better graphics PS4 Pro ... then they will see the Xbox 1 x and that it only has slightly better graphics than the pro ... for a hefty price difference... and yet none of the big games, and less of their friends on Xbox Live compared to PSN ...
X1X is not a game changer like the Switch... Switch actually offers another take on the industry... its own segement of the market.
@kaealy: @charizard1605
True, the Saturn was a pretty big flop from the start, thanks to the 32x and sega CD failing previously. Only die hard Sega fans bought the thing.
Besides, look at what happened when the video game market DID actually crash. IE: When Atari made it's exit.
From the ashes rose some of the greatest consoles/system wars ever, with two unique consoles that actually *gasp* had unique games! (Sega/Nintendo)
sony can watch all they want....

triple AAAE's ? lol where are those
AAA.... yea ok you mean.. EA's, ubisoft, and activisions games...
@pinkanimal: We need Microsoft, its Sony that brings nothing to the table. Sony just copies everyone. At least Microsoft tries to do things a little different. Sony is just not needed, well be fine with just Microsoft, Nintendo, Apple, and Steam.
MS doesn't bring exclusive first party games, though...

Can you play Uncharted 4 and LL on any other machine then a Play Station 4... nope.... There's 2 AAAE's..... Horizon:ZD on any other machine other then a Play Station 4? Nope.... There's 3 AAAE's.....
Glad nintendo is back
competition is a good thing, despite the nonsense cows have been spitting for months.
Are they going to do the same when the Xbox One X sells out.
Hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..The xbox one X selling out how many will they have for launch 50k?
sony can watch all they want....

I don't think they have to do much, the PS4 is selling non stop and unlike the wii the Switch is not having a mass appeal gimmick that may help it sell ultra fast no matter what NIntendo does this gen is already over sony won.
I see the switch hurting more the xbox one than PS4.
sony can watch all they want....

sony won what? the wiiu/x1/ps4 gen?
yea ..and thats it. it lost the ps3/wii/360 gen. and it lost the vita/3ds battle.
and its losing overall to nintendo.
so yea sony....congrats on beating the wiiU and the xbox one...
@iandizion713: 3DS won against the Vita. Sony won the console war. And they'll have outsold 3DS by this year end anyway.
@KBFloYd: dude, iandizion is an idiot but why you have such bizarre hatred for Sony I will never understand.

lol i don't think i even know anymore. i think it gives me some actual purpose in system wars or something.
just hearing people say crash or nathan drake is better than mario..or sony is better than nintendo look at the sales!..idk... it pisses me off.
when xbox says halo or gears is better than mario...it doesnt bother me. i'm like...oh cool... maybe its because sony talks the talk but they also walk the walk with sales so that gets me.
maybe if sony didn't actual have sales to back them up then maybe i wouldnt get mad at sony. i would just be like....lol. but they actually have solid proof with sales numbers :P
@iandizion713: Yes, good for Nintendo last gen. Good for Sony this Gen.
I think Switch will have final say this Gen. And Nintendo still has much more to come gaming related around the industry. Sony is heading for movies, but i doubt that ends well.
@KBFloYd: It's probably because of all the cows who love Sony as if they're some savior, bringing their shining beacon of exclusives to the market.
The sad reality is neither MS, nor Sony give two shits about any of their fans. They care about numbers.
Sony is just successful because of better marketing/exclusive deals. Basically paying money to exclude games from being on other systems. That's it.
So I guess if one wants to love a company like that and defend it vehemently, whatever.
You probably love Nintendo more, because love it or hate it, they actually have a pretty good record of at least trying to maintain some level of quality control, and If any company is primarily about the gameplay, fun, and saying F*&k everything else, it's Nintendo.
@KBFloYd: @KBFloYd: @KBFloYd:
That's my point. It is essentially a portable wiiu.
As for the points you make.:
1: is a micro SD card really more elegant? For portability, sure it's a must. What about for being cost effective? How about cost per gig on micro SDxc VS a traditional hdd method?
Let's say wiiu saw more support and GameCube was brought to the vc. Is potentially swapping out SD cards more elegant than a single hdd solution?
2. The switch screen is undoubtedly better. But what is the point? 2012 VS 2017. In 2017 720p would also be considered dated. So in this regard you are still buying dated tech.
3. Switch can be taken anywhere. True. Time will tell how it is utilized. Is the phone online setup elegant? Was it that difficult to build that into the console?
4. The wiiu game pad functions more like a normal controller than the dual joycons, out of the box. When in portable mode you realize how strenuous the right side joycon layout is. The switch ships with no dpad. An additional controller is $70. Add this to the portability factor. Now you've got to carry the console with a spare pro controller?
Wiiu pro controllers can be used for most things. The game pad screen was a concept which simply did not catch on. Shame, as Zelda was built with it in mind and it could have been used to streamline the menu/constant weapon exchanges.
5. The game thing is a support issue. Any product which builds an installed base will have support. However both consoles are far weaker than the competition to garner mass 3rd party games.
... And yes I own a switch.
How bout those joycon sync issues?

i dont see how countering all my points makes you say it is a portable wiiU. i missed that sentence that makes your point.
1...yea it would be better if nintendo put 500GB inside but since switch games are like 5GB and dont require installs...if you never buy anything digital 30GB is all you need for the save data in all your games.
if you want to buy digital stuff then its up to you to buy an sd card. yes a regular harddrive is cheaper than a microsd card. but since switch games are so small a 60$ 128GB is enough for the whole gen....where as ps4/x1 need terabytes which in the end is more costly than the switch.
2-ok...i just mean the screen is better than the wiiU to show why switch is better than wiiU.... wiiU launched in 2013 with a SD screen. thats horrible. at least switch has an HD screen.
yes many devices have much better screens but can those device even play the kind of quality nintendo games has at higher than 720p? maybe the nvidia shield and thats it... phone games dont count.
3-the phone app is for voice chat. that's it.... the portability is not affected in any way.
4-ok yea...the dpad is the weak link in the controller. you win this point....still much better than a 1pound gamepad with a bright screen on it like the wiiU was.....but yes playstation/xbox controller out the box is better than switch.
although switch controller has motion controls so that is better.
5-i am saying that the system will have a ton more 3rd party than wiiU. it will still be missing the big games just like wiiU but nintendo will try to make up for it with indie and japanese games imo...and the double the 1st party content.
yea ... the issue only happens to the left joycon and once and a while. but it did piss me off. i sent my left to nintendo...got it back in 4 days.... no issue at all since then. so it is an easy fix.
@tormentos: Sony won nothing, 3DS won.
true.... 3DS is still winning the gen....
stupid cows always forget.
How much did the 3DS sell this gen again? The PS4 is a console, the 3DS is not.
Wii U apologists are my favourite kind of fanboy, trying to defend a product that is inherently indefensible.

3DS was at 67 million. this was in june or july...before the release of the 2DSXL....there is a metroid game coming and a metroid theme console to go along with it in sept.... so it has a chance to stay in the lead a while longer...maybe a month lol :P
@KBFloYd:
From the looks of it all switch games could have been done on wiiu. No doubt the first few waves of Nintendo games were going to be released on wiiu. The reason for the switch was a product refresh. Not enough wiiu consoles sold to justify R&D cost for game development. Nintendo is being smart about it. They are aware many people will buy the wiiu rerealeases as they never did in the first place.
The consoles though? There really isn't a huge difference. Sort of like going from the GameCube to the wii

ps3 games like call of duty and battlefield, assasins creed are not that different going from ps3 to ps4....but hey thats a matter of which kind of games you prefer.
The Switch is definitely an impressive product. However, there aren't enough games I like on it, apart from Mario Kart 8.
@KBFloYd: so you know if nintendo has fixed the joy-con sync issues with the newer Switch's?
no i didn't buy the yellow joycons....and w wont buy the green and pink splatoon joycons. those are the newest versions of the joycons but i dont know if they are any different from the launch joycons.
I am still not necessarily sold on the switch. It seems more like a repeat of the Wii's success than anything. Basically, it makes me think that this is more like a success for Nintendo than for gamers in general. Maybe as the months pass and more game announcement are made, I'll change my mind.
Japan is completely destroying the competition. Good on Nintendo. If this keeps up, I might actually buy a Switch eventually. I'm still not sold on the games front yet, though.
It's getting great support from Nintendo from the get-go. Zelda and Mario within its first year is awesome. Mario Kart is the best one ever. Pokemon next year. Hopefully Metroid Prime next year.
Third party support will be around, the games are selling well. Of course not great third party support- plenty of ports mostly, some third party exclusives.
What more do you need to see?
