Sony Corp invests $250 million in Epic Games

This appears to go well beyond just gaming but, it'll be interesting to see how Sony and PlayStation leverage more of Epic's technology going forward.

The investment cements an already close relationship between the two companies and reinforces the shared mission to advance the state of the art in technology, entertainment, and socially-connected online services.

The investment allows Sony and Epic to aim to broaden their collaboration across Sony’s leading portfolio of entertainment assets and technology, and Epic’s social entertainment platform and digital ecosystem to create unique experiences for consumers and creators. The closing of the investment is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

Anyhow. Meanwhile Boobiesoft is buying low-tier developers, Sony is about to do something big. Obviously this isn't a total buy-out, but it's obvious they are planning something big.

Team Xbox on ResetEra in their feelings over this news. There's probably not even anything major coming out of this.

Should have invested that money into the PS5. Maybe we wouldn't be stuck with an underpowered 9.2tflops system. Thanks Sony.

So now Tencent owns 48.4% of Epic, and Sony owns 1.4%. Interesting.

This deal also doesn't stop Sony from selling games on other PC stores.

It's also worth mentioning that Tencent paid $330M for 40% of Epic in 2012 (the other 8.4% was for help with Fortnite i think)

Hey if this deal helps get Playstation Exclusives on PC then I wouldn't mind buying from the Epic Store but let's wait and see what they'll actually do with this partnership. I imagine it will be making tools to develop for PS5 more easily mostly.

Before i say what i have to say, i didnt have an xbox 360 since i was mainly gaming on playstation or PC.

Okay so why is it that when Sony does this “wow this is great look at how big they are, nice.” , but when Microsoft did this type of stuff during the 360 days they were “look at MS buying crap so no one else can play those games, grrrr this is shch bullshit, etc etc blah blah”.

Really though it makes no sense why its okay for Sony to do this but not okay for microsoft to do this. Boggles my mind.

You don't need benchmarks to know that the CPU throttles for the GPU to be at its top speed. That is the whole purpose of Smartshift. I know you are still pissed because you can't validate your 18.3%. 🤣

Actually the PS5 doesn't work that way is not 9.2TF,the GPU speed is 2.23ghz when the CPU demands more power there is a shieft in power,and frequency is drop by like 3% according to DF,but that is the worse case scenario most of the time the machine will be 10.3TF but even if it drops 3% in frequency is not enough to drop to 9.2TF in fact i don't think it is enough to drop bellow 10TF.

But don't take my word for it i am just a blind sony fanboy spewing shit on the internet.

Cerny can say whatever bullshit he wants but the fact of the matter is SmartShift; the technology in use, throttles the CPU or the GPU to overclock either GPU or CPU. Don't fight facts man. We been through this dance before. Don't be bitter because you didn't have benchmarks for your 18.3% claim when called out on it.

I have a theory but is just that a theory.

I think it can run both at the same time at full speed,but can't sustain both because the PS5 heating solution is based on power balance,the PSU inside that machine i am sure will have more than enough power to supply both components,but using the max power on both components will result in higher heat.

But is good that you bring that argument,you know why because you are willing to accept it as TRUE so since you adknowledge it as true that the developers are holding back the CPU to ensure the GPU top speed.

You also must adknowledge as true that the GPU will certainly almost always be 2.23GHZ which mean 18.3% gap in power.

You simply can't have it both ways.
