That thing needs a price cut and maybe even a revision ASAP, i mean it has a couple of interesting games, but there is no way i will spend so much money to just play a few games, not to mention the WiiU is just around the corner almost at the same price.

Vita lasting 10 years? good luck with that and while the PS3 was on a similar situation there is no guarantee the vita will be the same.

GunSmith1_basic

what about it needs a revision??

If I was to revise the PS Vita I would:

  • give it a proper d-pad like the Dualshock, and PSP have
  • give it proper buttons like the Dualshock, and PSP have
  • give it bigger analog sticks

I was considering buying one when it came out, but when I tested one out the controls just felt incredibly cheap.

I actually like that the buttons are a little smaller they feel more natural to me.

 not even the PSP had a 10 year life cycle. The PSV has no chance of it happening since its been flopping.

I agree with this. Especially the analog sticks feels odd.

Good for them if their 1st party can do that cause the 3rd party sure as hell wont.

Look at it through non fanboy eyes and it is clear that the handheld is failing and a price cut wont save it

I don't think that there ever has been a handheld that was supported 10 years. If Sony couldn't even support the PSP what makes them think they can support the Vita?

The Vita will improve over time. Seems obvious, but the PSP didn't really take off at first either. When the library is strong and the hardware gets cheaper it will start selling.

PSP was a niche system through and through. Unless you had an interest in JRPGs (which was what kept the system afloat) there really wasn't much to offer on the system. The Vita doesn't really seem to have that going for it either since the regular PSP is still outright outselling it.

Well what really sold the PSP (outside of Japan) was piracy.

The original PSP had a pretty horrible software attach rate in comparison to every other system.

I'm tired of people talking vita sales, sure it looks bad compared to the 3ds but its selling at a very, very slow consistent rate. Which means something right?

Yeah, 10 year HOMEBREW life cycle--and maybe even longer than that. C'mon, the second Sony pulls the plug on this failure, EVERYBODY is going to rush out and buy one.

Yeah. Niche means it caters to a very specific and narrow audience. In the case of the PSP, if you were a fan of JRPGs, you'd get a hell of a lot more mileage out of it than others.

First 7 and 1/2 months of PS Vita have been pretty fun so far.

Glad to hear they planned a 10 year life cycle! :D

10 year life cycle. That seems like a long stretch now a days, especially with how fast technology moves. But then again, we are coming up on the 7th year of this generation of consoles.

PlayStation Vita Price Cut Coming Next Year, Says Sony

For those that hate because they want one but can't afford it. :)

lol why does 'not willing to pay that price' always translate to 'can't afford' here.

Because a lot of people feel that the overall package is too expensive. It essentially costs $350 to the core gamer, and even more if one picks up a game or two along with the system--$420 at launch, that's a lot for a portable. Now, because the console offers a great control scheme, screen, and overall tech, most people probably do want one..........I know I'd pick one up at $150 in a heartbeat..

I never play rpg's. I play shooters sports(car racing, skateboarding) and hack n slash on sony's portables, like I did on home consoles. And I thought there was plenty for me. Rpg's like monster hunter sold japan but it took games like gta was the best seller on psp for the rest of the world.

I can't remember a Sony system, going back to PS1, where Sony execs didn't bring up the '10 year life cycle'. They should start making it a bullet-point on the back of the boxes. getyeryayasout

Since I never owned a PSP, and the Vita has full PSP BC, and I like JRPGs, I will get a ton of mileage out of Vita from the get go. That's why I'm not worried about the current state of the Vita.

I got PSP on day 1 release and its been about half a decade. I'm buying PS Vita soon because I see potential in it. Worse case scenario in the next year or two a slimmer version of PS Vita will be released, or mobile phone gaming gets huge forcing PS Vita with Nintendo DS obsolete.
