Something just doesn't seem right with this I mean, why would they not have the premiere racer as a launch title for PS4 supposedly launching this year

I guess they can but apparently GT6 was not being made with the PS4 specs in mind. :?

I dunno, what say you?

The Story.

---

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-28-sony-exec-says-gran-turismo-6-is-a-ps3-game

Sony exec says Gran Turismo 6 is a PS3 game

But will it also launch on PS4?

A senior Sony executive has said Gran Turismo 6 is a PlayStation 3 game.

In a conversation about the relevance of the PS3 now that the PlayStation 4 has been announced, Sony's Computer Entertainment Europe senior vice president Michael Denny told Silicon Republic: "Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6 and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin's Creed, GTA."

Last week Sony announced the PS4 for release "holiday 2013". This led many to assume that the next game in the simulation racer series from Polyphony Digital would launch for that console.

But Denny's quotes suggest otherwise.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe issued Eurogamer the following statement on Gran Turismo 6 and Denny's comments:

"In 2010, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Polyphony Digital had commenced development for Gran Turismo 6. We look forward to sharing further details on this title in the near future."

So, if GT6 is set for release on PS3, it's surely out at some point this year. But will it also launch on PS4 at a later date?

Expected.

There are always 2 Gran Turismo games on each PlayStation console. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this! My favourite racing franchise.

I guess they have to try and recoup some of the losses from the failed PS3 before their main title can go next gen. Sad times indeed for $ony. RIP.

Well I don't blame them...they spent what, 6-7 years creating all those assets for GT5? Might as well milk that engine while you got it....it's the same thing square enix is doing...FFXIII's assets and engine wasn't cheap to make, so they're squeezing the story of XIII for all it's worth

I just hope for their sake they make ALL the cars premium this time

Either way, not interested....i'm more interested in Drive Club

yes that'd be great for the system...but knowing that dev team, they probably wouldn't make the deadline for it to be a launch game, lol

did they say if Drive Club was going to be a launch game or not? I can't recall if they did

It's probably because it's made for the cell, the good news is that Gran Turismo 7 will come soon because the ps4 is easy to develop for.

Seems like a very bad idea. GT is their best selling exclusive and they should use that to sell PS4s and not some unheard of team racer.

I was thinking just this too. GT6 may as well be for PS4, otherwise Sony are pretty much saying: "Well we have released a new console, but look here! That game you all love is just coming out for the PS3 instead, so don't bother buying our new system!"

I intend to buy GT5. I would be interested in GT6 if it was coming to PS4, but as it stands, I have no interest in GT6. Looks like I will be waiting for GT7.

It would make more sense to put it on the new system. GT will sell whichever console you put it on, it will just take longer with smaller install base that's all. But if it was put on the new platform, the system would have a system seller right off the bat.

Sony has also said every single studio they own is working on PS4 games, and its already been confirm what Polyphony is working on is GT6. So, conflicting reports leads to nothing being confirmed.

I agree but I think it would sell less. It is a first party game though and in the end it is more important for Sony to sell consoles then games. You sell one game then that is all you sold but you sell a console then that can be many games in the future. Car games are one of those type of games that can really show graphic power and even if it is ported to the PS4 later it will not be as good as if it was exclusive for the PS4.

Sony needs a Gran Turismo game right out of the gate if it wants to sell the PS4, as simple as this.

The Gran Turismo brand weights far more than any other racing brand sans for maybe Mario Kart and NFS.

I highly doubt it will move many systems, regardless of it's quality.

A launch GT game, on the other hand...

I wouldn't call it a system seller for a launch console. The gt crowd is a dedicated crowd. I find it hard to fathom millions spending $500 on a ps4, $60 on GT6, and another $150 on a racing wheel.

Potentially, it's not the only game that could launch with the PS4 though. They showed "Phantom Pain" at E3 last year. Which all indications point to being Metal Gear Solid V. something like that would also move systems.

Well, the GT games are the ones that *do* push new Sony systems and racing gear.

Ask yourself why the Vita is flopping in sales - no Gran Turismo, God of War, MGS and GTA game on it yet...

Also, releasing GT3 only months after the PS2 came out did miracles for it's sales.

I think the vita's problems probably have more to do with a couple things not gaming related. 1.) It's too expensive, 2.) It's not "Kid" friendly, 3.) The demographic it's targeting already has iphones and ipads or other similar gadgets.

Ok, yeah it would probably sell less, but probably still above the 5 million mark over a few years, which is more than acceptable.

And like someone posted just above, I agree, that the proper GT fans would not mind shelling out to purchase a brand new system to play their franchise; I know a few people who bought a second ps3 linked up, JUST to be able to do the dual screen Gran Turismo.

I wouldn't call it a system seller for a launch console. The gt crowd is a dedicated crowd. I find it hard to fathom millions spending $500 on a ps4, $60 on GT6, and another $150 on a racing wheel.

Yes but not at launch. Gt is a pricey investment. ...ps2 was going to sell anyways.

Polyphony dragging their feet again?

Why do people care about them anymore? GT5 showed they clearly aren't an effective game dev. They released an unpolished, unfinished game that was about 3 years to late.

They are a waste of time, Sony should stop investing into them.

Yet that game is still their best selling series. If you really think they should not invest in their highest selling series, then you're an idiot.

I still have hope for them. Yamauchi admitted aftere the release of GT5 that he afterwards realised no one wanted a stupidly high number of low res cars, or so many Japanese cars; I reckon if he does research this time maybe it can make a better GT?
