Nonetheless, Sony believes it can still ship 11 million PS3s in the fiscal year. Sales for this particular quarter however, brought shipments to retailers of PS3 to only 4.28 million units worldwide through June 30, 2007. A total of .71 million PS3s were shipped to retailers in the April-June 2007 period. Additionally, Sony expects to ship 10 million PS2s in the fiscal year, as well as 9 million PSPs in the fiscal year.
They also expect to sell more then Nintendo
Over the entirety of the fiscal year, Sony expects 250 million pieces of software to be soldfor PS2, PSP andPS3 hardware. While certaintly alot ofsoftware, given the PS2 userbase sellthrough to gamers(>115 millbyMar 08')+ PSP userbase (30 mill+ in Mar' 08')+ PS3 userbase (8-10 million in March 08') that amounts toexpectations of under 2 games sold per hardware unit.
For comparison, Nintendo expects to sell 212 million units of software (DS & Wii) in the fiscal year ending March 2008on ahardware userbase of roughly90 million (DS ~67.3 million& Wii ~22.3 million).
