Nonetheless, Sony believes it can still ship 11 million PS3s in the fiscal year. Sales for this particular quarter however, brought shipments to retailers of PS3 to only 4.28 million units worldwide through June 30, 2007. A total of .71 million PS3s were shipped to retailers in the April-June 2007 period. Additionally, Sony expects to ship 10 million PS2s in the fiscal year, as well as 9 million PSPs in the fiscal year.

They also expect to sell more then Nintendo

Over the entirety of the fiscal year, Sony expects 250 million pieces of software to be soldfor PS2, PSP andPS3 hardware. While certaintly alot ofsoftware, given the PS2 userbase sellthrough to gamers(>115 millbyMar 08')+ PSP userbase (30 mill+ in Mar' 08')+ PS3 userbase (8-10 million in March 08') that amounts toexpectations of under 2 games sold per hardware unit.

For comparison, Nintendo expects to sell 212 million units of software (DS & Wii) in the fiscal year ending March 2008on ahardware userbase of roughly90 million (DS ~67.3 million& Wii ~22.3 million).

They expect to beat the console that's currently annhilating them in sales? Witha price tag of $600? Yeah and Santa Claus is going to give me a Bin Laden seeking Hydrogen Bomb for X-mas.

11 million 80gigs

Sorry I dont see why Sony has to phase out the 60gig.. 60gig of memory is enough and you can easily upgrade the harddrive for cheap.

Sony needs to fire its sales analyst lol. I can create a much more realistic sales plan via fully external data. This makes them look incompetent.

they'd need to sell almost a million a month. i don't think they've broken 100k a month in the US this year.

they'll need more price dropping trickery ;)

I agree. This must be the assumption that SOny is using in its forecasts, but so far that assumption is anything but reasonable.

Well, it's entirely possible they'll ship that much. For example, they could pull a Microsoft and just stuff the channel to meet their predictions.

It doesn't mean anything in terms of real userbase, but they'll have met their shipping estimates!
