I want a price drop too but not if its going to hurt the company. I care more about the state of the companiy and its employees than saving $100 on a system I can already afford.

it will drop, but Sony will time it with one of their exclusives and during a busy time such as holiday season. Perhaps a price cut + GT 5 in the holidays season? There will be mad sales if that happens

It is crazy to see how there are fanboys and then there are fanboys that take things to a whole new level. Some of this guys videos are pretty funny as well.

I saw an ad for Best Buy yesterday that if you buy any PS3 console you get one of these games free, LBP, Killzone 2, or MLB 09 the show. That right there shows they aren't selling many PS3s if they have to make a deal to lose $60.

Unless they dub down the PS3 even more like they've been doing since the beginning, no price drop this year.

They just need to lower the production cost a little more and then they'd be in a better position to lower the price, but still not making any profits. In fact Sony has made zero profits with the PS3 console as of yet (except with software of course) and they've lost all profits made with the PS2. I'd say it's a suicide to lower the price right now, but in 2010 (or maybe by the end of this year) it's highly possible they will.

If 3rd parties want to work on a system that sells, then they can start working on Wii. Threatening to reallocate development resources to the industry leader (my God, just saying that makes me ashamed at the state of the industry) because they console they want to work on is trying its best to stay afloat is not the way to do things.

It doesn't show they aren't selling... It could just mean sales have slumped for a month, and there looking to move the slow stock out of the warehouse... doesn't mean it isn't selling, maybe just selling slower

Sega saturn had similar problems, but was an entirely different disaster altogether. The system was never supposed to be able to perform 3D graphics - but sega slapped in TWO hitachi processors in order to make it more powerful which resulted in a 400$ system. Because of this the system was way more difficult to program for than the PS3 is today. But theoretically, it had the power to become more powerful than the ps1 (see original shenmue screens - for saturn).

it all goes down to whether sony believe they are selling at a decent enough rate, and how long they can ride the current price before they need to lower to branch out to a larger market.

If they drop it down to $300 or £200 and it doesn't make a large impact that would be a huge mistake, but sony knows more than me.

I just thought of something... Could the fact that EA snubbed the PS3 for Mass Effect 2 be an act of protest against the high cost of the console? Essentially, EA saying "if you don't drop the price, we'll start giving Xbox 360 preferential treatment?"Timstuff
