Fact: PS2 sold 700,000 in the first week in Japan. Not 1 million shungokustasu

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps2_e.html - 1 million in one week

Do you not see the big freaking 720,000 units before on 2000/03/06? Also you said they Sold 1 million in TWO DAYS!!!!! You have just been owned.

So sony lied when they made the claim of selling 1 million in 2 days in 2000.

Something Playstation fans have been used to for a long time. Yet it still does not seem to bother us.

The built in dvd player sold a lot of ps2's when it came out because in some places it was cheaper to buy than the stand alones. Now I know that the ps3 has the blueray player built in but that is not going to have the same effect this time. Why?

Well for one thing dvd was a massive visual improvement and feature improvement on vhs. If you are old enough to remember life before dvd you would remeber things like: Vhs players eating your tapes

-needing to rewind tapes

-tracking problems,sound problems,garbled images,bulky cases..ect.

Another thing to remember is that the ps2 and all dvd players were compatable with even your Grandpas tv.

So lets see ....the price was right, dvd was already on the way to becoming standard. Look Im not saying that that was the whole reason for the ps2's success..but it didnt hurt things either. I wonder how things would have been if the Dreamcast would have had dvd???

Sorry, spud. I don't run from my threads. You've mistaken me for RagingBull/BigBoss ;)

Will I proved all your facts about the PS2 launch wrong. However, I do agree with you that the PS2 launch is the best hands down. Your stats was a little off. I just wanted to correct them.

1)You've proved Sony lied about selling 1 million its first weekend.  That's whose words I was going by.  It won't happen again.

2) You've yet to prove the 500k PS2 launch in NA wrong.  Again, you must have mistaken it for the 400k PS3's that were suppose to ship.

3) Again, all you did was proved my point that the PS3 is not following in the same footsteps as the PS2.  In other words, the PS3 is in no way $200 better than the 360 and probably will never be.
I dunno...who lost the least amount of money...me (about 250 dollars for Xbox) , MS 4 billion dollars....i think I come out the winner here...what you dont believe me, here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox
The goal of the original Xbox was to establish a brand, which it did.

The Xbox sold over 24 million units when every analysts was claiming it will be lucky to sell 20 million in its lifetime.

MS expected to lose that much money, so how was it a failure?

To establish a brand...

So what? They could cut the lifespan short of a nice piece of hardware in order to gain the advantage of being first for the next cycle?

I will admit the Xbox still could've lasted a little longer, but mine still works fine and I still play it.

But are you getting any new games for it?

That's the point. Sony has PROVEN that it can provide a great gaming machine, with continued support for the purchaser's investment. All technology fails, sure the PS2 had some issues, but every console has a few hiccups.

Throw out tech sheets, throw out VGA and frame buffer screenshots, throw out the sales comparisons. That stuff may be fun to talk about, but in the end, it's not really as important as previous experience, brand recognition, and overall consumer perception. And Sony looks good still, over a decade of great gaming.
