Move controllers, Trohpies, Rumble Controllers (missing in the first gen controllers), psn....complete with missing party chat (argue me not, its great for when you just wanna play with friends and not hear anyone else)...

i mean im glad sony made some moves toward improvement this gen...same with MS although the only real issue (aside from hardware was the missing built in network adapter), but sony REALLY needs to come out strong right out the gate next gen in order to take some type of dominance back in the console industry?

anyone else got a view on the situation? maybe you see it differently? maybe MS was the biggest loser? nintendo?..........PC!? ( yeah right!)

All I can say is next gen Sony sure as hell better update their controller. The DS3 is so un-ergonomic compared to the 360's controller it's not even funny. Sony needs to take a risk and put out a newer, updated controller.

Well alot of that stuff is irrelevant to us now, but your right. You'd be a fool not to say Sony was the biggest loser this gen, even if it passed the 360 by a substantial margin in sales. The PS3 was very expensive to make and Sony sold it at a loss for way too long. I find it hard to believe the KZ franchise has turned a profit, and I'm sure GT5 only broke even at best. The PSN breach is also going to cost them a HUGE fortune. I don't think that consumer trust will be pegged as hard as everyone thinks it will, but I know the money they spent fixing PSN and plan to spend reimbursing gamers will be substantial. So they are by far the biggest losers.

And get over cross game chat. I made a few of my friends on PSN get skype so we could do it. In the midst of an intense battle in any SP game, you are in no mood to talk, and you will not be listening.

I agree BUT I think MS is the biggest loser (in your wording lol) :P. RROD, no built in wi-fi, proprietary harddrive, proprietary headsets, disk tray, HD-DVD (failure), pay to play onilne, noisy, and so on.

Nintendo's is arguably the best, but lacks what many "gamers" want in a system.

well i wouldnt call that MAJOR catchup, although thats DEFINATLY something that shouldve been added on initially. thats the price you pay sometimes when releasing first though....i mean thats just one thing when you put it next to the list of things sony had to change or catch up on or completely contradict themselves on....

yeah cause.....all those issues are things that sony needs to learn from so they dont make the same mistakes next gen. as with MS with battery controllers and hardware reliability. Nintendo with 3rd party support and core audience focus...

I'm surprised the 360 slipped so much after having a great start. I'm very impressed how the PS3 started delivering big time with the games and keeps delivering (took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get there though). I always expected the Wii to win the sales race in the same manner as the DS, but at least the DS had more than a small handfull of really stellar games to justify it.

ughh, please tell me this list, yeah sony had a hiccup but your forgetting that microsoft had this same kind of sweat when it came to RROD, it was all over the news, heck my parents didn't wanna buy me a 360 because they been hearing from people at their jobs that they been breaking left and right. Also Microsoft also had kinect, so i don't understand why your just saying sony is catching up? microsoft does the same thing, they jumped on the motion control band wagon. Also i think the ps3 was ahead of the game actually, it had blu-ray, rechargable controller, wi-fi, internet browser, free online. All out of the box. Don't forget that microsoft goofed too

They just need to use more affordable hardware so they can launch at a more reasonable pricepoint, and embrace online better, since that's where the market has/is headed - online big budget shooters. The rest of that stuff is relatively superfluous.

Yeah the controller could use an update... just make it fit the hand better... keep the same layout... (yall can argue where the analog sticks go idc... i can swap between the two controllers easily)

Chris_Williams

He mentioned that.

OT: good points TC and I agree Sony has been playing "Catchup" a lot this gen. Only thing I can think to add to your post for next gen and what to do or not do. They need to realize people just aren't willing to spend that much money ($600 at launch) for a console. That and have a good game lineup when the PS4 launches.

Microsoft's issues this gen was crappy hardware (talking reliability) and having way too many games that were also on PC. As a PC gamer, they made it super easy to pick the PS3 over the 360 because of this. They also need to drop the online fees.

ok unless you just jumped out of 1995 you really dont need your console to do online surfing, i mean its good for convenience but i dunno...its not like i do a major part of browsing on it and shopping (aside from psn thats nonexistant). i mean yeah its cool and i admit that sony did a good job implementing it all into one system, i just rarely use it. my ps is faster...i have multiple laptops. having anet browser is not an issue...not rechargable controllers, i did list and blu ray isnt an issue to me either i mean with netflix and DLC....i havent bought a blu ray ina LONG time. but yea...the major issues you listed i listed which were hardware reliability rechargable batteries and the built in network adapter. as far as sony a hiccup wouldnt be saying we sone use motion controllers (bashing nintendo with lolipop shaped controllers and then completely release what they bashed...IN EVERY SENSE.......AND FAIL! (lets not argue....its failing) realisticly theres an essense of copying in MS with motion controls and BLATANT copying with Sony...seriously, lets do better. i DO give it to them with the blu ray players though in the sense that they are the ONLY company to release a great upgradeable blu ray player at the beginning of the blu ray gen. they were indeed looking toward the future in some aspects and i do appluad them for their efforts..

agreed. the online fees really make it easy to choose another platform as a home system. when everything else is free and youre pay to play but marginaly better than the rest....(except pc) then theres obviously an issue. MS either needs to really make Live "worth it" or drop the price down.......or off altogether.

I agree completely. Sony to me had catchup last gen as well compared to the XBox. This is why I'm done with Sony. I've never been too impressed with their systems or exclusives, and they've let me down severely. Not only last gen after having to buy three PS2s because of DRE. The PS3 was nothing more than a Blu Ray player to me as the exclusives with the exception of Demons Souls were unipmressive to me. Plus with all the attacks on the PSN, just forget about it. Sony isn't getting my money ever again when it comes to gaming.

Yeah it's weird, it's almost like 360 and PS3 went in opposite directions this gen. But then again, Microsoft probably felt they they managed to take all that they could from Sony's market (third party exclusives/jrpgs) and figured that Nintendo's Casual Market should be their next focus.

I have no interest whatsoever in motion control. Achievements/trophies are nice but I don't care either way. I don't even notice rumble and I rarely play online.

Hold on......wait....what?!?!? Are you saying the PS2 was playing catchup last gen? If so then :lol: at you. PS2 was in first place all gen last gen. It was the others playing catchup last gen other than xbox's online. Games, sells, and everything else that matters besides online was in Sonys court last gen. And :lol: at you for buying three PS2s last gen instead of taking the PS2 apart and blowing it out like I did. Still got my original PS2 that I got 4 months after it released and it still works fine because i take it apart every so often to blow it out when it starts with the DRE.......Still can't believe you bought two more instead of just fixing it yourself.

1. you may not have any interest in Motion control but sony felt it was important enough to invest in (its not just about your interest) 2. see point 1, but change motion with trophies 3. enough people complained that sony AGAIN contradicted themselves when they said that rumble was last gen. so it MUST be an important issue.. 4. 77 million people potentialy play online on the psn and roughly 50 million for the xbl.....whether YOU do or dont is not the issue

I HATE when people use the PSN hacks as an excuse to bash SONY. It could have happened to Microsoft or Nintendo just as easily. NOTHING is hack proof. I bet you didn`t even know about all the major bank hacks that have happened in the last 6-7 months. The attacks have done nothing but boost SONY`s defences. If anything the hacks are a reason to put more trust in the system, now that there is better security measures in place.

PS3:

I can play for hours without any discomfort with the current PS3 controller, so that isn`t an issue. They have better exclusive content for multiplatform games (that means I am more likely to buy a multiplat game for my PS3), and they have better exclusives outside of the FPS genera. They use Blue-ray disks, witch means no disk swapping. They have integrated Wi-fi. They have a browser (I don`t use it much either, but it is nice to have). Free multiplayer (not as good as the 360`s in my opinion, but just barely). The layout is allot better in my opinion, you don`t have to take this part into consideration as it is my personal preference. Anybody who says that move is the same as the Wii motion controls has no idea what they are talking about, move is that the Wii would be if it was a more advanced.

360:

The controller is a better fit in my hand, but that really doesn`t matter. They are the FPS king, any online game is better on the 360 (granted not allot better, but enough that it is noticeable). One of my favorite series is on 360, Gears. The slim now has integrated Wi-fi, but alot of 360 owners still have the 360 fat. Kinnect is original and innovative. I don`t use it alot, but it is really neat. It has alot of problems. My disk drive went out a couple of months ago, it is practically useless now. You have to pay for live. It is the better experience, but it isn`t that much better. It seems like Microsoft is trying to squeeze every penny out of me. To get everything the PS3 has, I have to pay; rechargeable controllers, multiplayer, Wi-fi, etc.

Personally I buy multiplayer games and exclusives for my 360. I buy exclusives for my Wii. Then I buy everything else on my PS3. I don`t own a gameing PC, and I don`t really include the Wii in the system war debates. The Wii is fun, but not really a contender.

Still got my original PS2 that I got 4 months after it released and it still works fine because i take it apart every so often to blow it out when it starts with the DRE.......Still can't believe you bought two more instead of just fixing it yourself.

well xbox did have the built in hdd and better disk drive, online support, system was also built better and pretty much everything else....aside from the games, which yes was the most important part above all else. i had them both (still have them and i use my ps2 still....even though my ps3 is bc and so is my 360) the xbox is packed away.......and i still ahve games to play on it. hmm.....for some reason i cant remember the point i was getting at.

 Don't worry, I have done that a number of times myself. Start on and half way through, I forget what I was trying to say.

I agree that hardware wise, the Xbox was the better console (minus that god awful controller they had for it originally).

Move controllers, Trohpies, Rumble Controllers (missing in the first gen controllers), psn....complete with missing party chat (argue me not, its great for when you just wanna play with friends and not hear anyone else)...

slvrraven9

I have no interest whatsoever in motion control. Achievements/trophies are nice but I don't care either way. I don't even notice rumble and I rarely play online.

And not a single **** was given that day.

1. you may not have any interest in Motion control but sony felt it was important enough to invest in (its not just about your interest) 2. see point 1, but change motion with trophies 3. enough people complained that sony AGAIN contradicted themselves when they said that rumble was last gen. so it MUST be an important issue.. 4. 77 million people potentialy play online on the psn and roughly 50 million for the xbl.....whether YOU do or dont is not the issue

You're missing my point... none of those 'issues' concern me.

I didn`t specify who I was directing my opening to. Other people HAVE mentioned the hacks. I was talking to them. Maby you should read what I said, instead of assumeing. You would have seen I had actuall points with only the occasional opinion.

All I can say is next gen Sony sure as hell better update their controller. The DS3 is so un-ergonomic compared to the 360's controller it's not even funny. Sony needs to take a risk and put out a newer, updated controller.

Vari3ty
This is my absolute number one complaint about the PS3, which is otherwise a very decent console... the controller. 3 generations of the exact same feel, yet the 360 controller is so comfortable I can play for eons without ever getting any sort of uncomfortable feeling.

no the only thing 'apparently' that they needed catch up with is psn.. controllers fine... trophies could do without.. move controller is a gimmick for some extra milkage..

more of the same. the contreoller fits me moreso than that...i have to pay for live while psn is free. while on some of your issues you do strike up good points...im not exactly asking how you like this or that i moreso wanting your outlook on the companies shortcomings and what they can do to change it next gen. not really subjective issues...
