Sony has the upper hand with crossplay

I don't know what Sony is thinking blocking cross play. MS has the X1X coming Sony already has the PS4 Pro and could drop the price by the time X1X drops. If games are not noticeably different on X1X and run pretty similar on PS4 Pro. If I were in charge of Sony I'd say yup crossplay for as many games as possible, COD, Battlefront, etc. Cause I know I'd pick up the cheaper option in the PS4 Pro over the X1X if the differences are minimal. It would still be an upgrade over my X1, and I could still play the games I like with my X1 friends. Why Sony isn't thinking in this regard is beyond me.

Hopefully they are waiting just like I am to see how much better games look on X1X and if it's not drastic pull the trigger and steal tons of X1 users ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cause it's a totally different point of view and not "oh no Sony is evil and hate consumers" it's they a dumb and not thinking about themselves and profiting from it.

They actually don't have the upper hand, they are causing themselves to be left behind while everyone else is coming together.

Sony will change to crossplay like the others. It's just a matter of time. They have no choice.

@Gatygun: right now they have a choice. MS doesn't have crossplay with Win10 and steam, MS and Switch are not gonna have crossplay with games like COD, and Battlefront 2 cause those games don't exsist on Switch.

If MS and Devs allow big AAA multiplayer games to have crossplay with PC and MS lets PC player play with Steam etc Sony will see more pressure, especially if publishers and Ms are saying we wanted Sony on board for full cross play and they refused.

The more gaming unify and the less focus on the gaming platform the better it is for everyone. All these damn walls in gaming has become such a cultural norm that people have become incapable of thinking outside of these traditional constraints. Its time for gaming to grow up.

It would be a shame if Microsoft becomes the pioneer for this.

As long as gamers need Xbox Live accounts to cross play with Xbox users Microsoft can go f**k themselves. Sony knows exactly what they're doing. Let them play Minecraft and Rocket League all they want. It won't change much.

Well Sony has allowed crossplay in some titles in the past like FFIV while Microsoft refused and I didn't see the Xbox fanboys praising them and moving from Xbox to PS because of it, so I'll dare say it's sort of a minor factor in a console gamer's decision and won't have much of an impact.

The skillful greats playing on PS4 don't want to play all the loser cry babies on Xbox One.

Sony is falling behind with cross play. A true "for the gamers" action would be to allow people on PSN to play with XBL and Switch Online.

Furthermore, MS have developed a platform that allows devs to make games that work on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox One X with ease, meaning that all their future consoles will have "backwards compatibility" for One and X games ... only its actually native compatibility, and future games will work on lesser hardware with not much dev intervention to get it working.

Sony on the other hand has to start the library from scratch with PS5. So that's two fronts where sony is falling behind. The latter being much more difficult for them to recover from.

Yeah lets forget that last gen Sony did it and MS didn't,and that MS refused to allow cross play.

Lets ignore that this very gen at the start MS would not even allow PC vs xbox let alone xbox vs PS or other platform.

What MS is doing now is call 180,just like they have do with everything including the very existence of the XBO X which is a 180 from the xbox one,MS did not allow cross play between hardware this was true to the start of this gen and that changed when lemmings and fans across the next complain about games like Rocket League which did had cross play on PS4 vs PC but the xbox one did not feature cross play even with PC.

So i understand why sony is giving MS the finger now,i don't justify it though and i would love to see that happening.

I love how the Sony defense forces actually tries to spin the terrible stuff Sony does as winning. Tormentos being the worst all his arguments are always logical fallacies. If your argument is "But the other side did it first" thats not really a defendable position, since the point in question is Sony not MS and we arent talking about the past we are talking about now. Not to mention thats not the excuse the actual Sony execs gave as their reason for not supporting it. And i have to ask... last generation playstation had free online whereas MS didnt. Did that play a factor at all?

If Sony gives in, then 3rd party devs will support azure. Multiplats would be much more of a showcase for MS. Imagine cloud computing on all crossplay games.
