Sony just put 18 billion aside for acquisitions.
It looks like some announcements will be made this year. They started shifting money from cash assets in June of last year.

The 18 billion in that old article is for all of their divisions including music and movies.
Not even 1/3rd of what MS just paid for Activision.
It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

People on here are really still arguing they'd rather spend $70 on one game vs $10/15 on access couple hundred games? It's laughable! Especially when more and more desirable games to the general public are going on that $10/15 access side. It's just making Sony look more out of touch with today.
I'd say they should be panicked about that before they even worry about what games they will be losing and how they'll make up for it.
I can count the games on one hand that i'd give a shit about on gamepass.

So, you are back to supporting acquisitions?😂
I'm just telling you what's about to happen.
As far as supporting acquisitions it depends. It would have to benefit the company they bought. If it gives them the resources to make better games then that's great. If it's buying a publisher that already has endless resources then no that's not great. MS has made good purchases before" like Ninja theory and double fine". Activision/Blizzard not so much.

In other words, you see there is a chance for Sony to counter MS, so you are all good with acquisitions again. But, you are not a fanboy.😂

That's not what i said at all. To counter this transaction from MS, Sony would need to buy EA or Ubisoft. Both of those would be terrible ideas.
@Pedro: No one is cool with acquisitions of this level except bitter Xbox fanboys, but Sony has to compete. Something MS couldn't do without buying the market.
Maybe Sony and Nintendo will combine forces and try to put a stop to Microsoft’s monopoly attempt. The two Japanese powerhouse companies could call a truce to take on the American powerhouse Microsoft.
Japan vs USA in an all out gaming war.

Sadly, that is all Sony has done is buy existing in order to compete. Not sure why the PS fans are so bitter.
@x_hedon: Kvally, most (not all) were aligned with Sony anyway. Take naughty dog, once PS1 hit how many games did they make for non Sony systems? A lot were working towards the goal of being bought by Sony or at the very least didn't oppose it.
Activision didn't oppose it either.. Activision Blizzard wanted to sell, so it approached Microsoft

Sony literally competed with acquisitions and paying for exclusives for many games. Try a different angle.

Not true at all. They have never bought a publisher because they are actually capable of creating IP's.
Sony created Sony Santa Monica and the God of War IP, When they bought Naughty Dog they sold the Crash bandicoot IP. Every IP created since was under Sony. Insomniac spent most their career working on an IP created under Sony( Ratchet and Clank). Their few attempts away from Sony were commercial failures. Sucker Punch created every IP under Sony before they were bought. Guerilla games was a struggling PC dev that made nothing of note till Sony bought them.
MS on the other hand hasn't improved a single studio. And has even assigned new studios to IP's because the original teams no longer wanted to work on them.

What I said is 100% true. Sony buys existing developers year round, every year. Sadly, Sony tends to close their studios fast.
MS has improved nearly every single studio they have acquired.

Doesn't matter. Sony still acquired them, never built them (most). And like you just said, bought by Sony. MS and Sony have created very FEW studios from scratch. There are not many Santa Monica's and The Initiatives.
And on top of that, it looks like Activision wanted to be bought out and sought out Microsoft. Activision probably knew Sony couldn't afford them.
Microsoft is doing exactly what Sony has done, but at a god tier level.

It's not actually. Especially the part about MS improving studios.
And Microsoft has closed more studios then it has kept open.

The few that have kept open.. either asked to be sold and were released( bungie) or are shells of their former selves.( Rare).
Hopefully that trend will break with the more recent purchases.
I am literally the only person on this forum that enjoys Call of Duty so apparently there's no loss for anyone... except me.
If Call of Duty does get pulled that is a bummer. Other than that. Does Activision actually have any good games? Blizzard games are meant for PC anyways, I've been trying to convince my PS buddies to join and them on PC but no luck... Until now?

You can "compare" all day. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Sony nearly 100% of the time buys out developers. It also doesn't take away from the fact the numerous studios Sony has closed after acquiring.
With any luck, Sony will stop acquiring developers and make their own studios instead. AND hopefully Sony stops closing out studios all the time.

I can compare all day because it kills your narrative. Sony has improved more studios then it has closed. MS has literally closed " MOST" of the studios it had acquired up until 2019.
I am literally the only person on this forum that enjoys Call of Duty so apparently there's no loss for anyone... except me.

MS has been working on PC to Console ports, and that will be the case with Activision games too when possible. MS already has full keyboard/mouse support on Xbox Series X/S. They ported Flight Simulator to Xbox. And now they are working on Age of Empires 4 to be ported to Xbox. I am sure with a good team, they will be able to figure out how to map out WoW to console.
I want nothing to do with PC, so hopefully they do these ports.
You aren't the only person on the forum that enjoys COD. In fact, the most played game on consoles is Call of Duty. Well, at least for the past 5 years that I have kept track of. 2021 and past. The number one game on PlayStation is Call of Duty, so it would be a loss to PS fans *if* they didn't have an iOS, Android, Xbox or Microsoft Windows device. And if they didn't have any of those, they can just get one to play Microsoft games. I bought a PS to play Sony games.

Comparing is fun, but that DOESN'T take away from the fact that Sony buys nearly 100% of their studios and closes studios very often.
And MS does a great job of improving studios of their own as well.

Can you provide evidence to this claim that MS has closed more than 50% of their studios?

I already did. Look at the link i posted in this thread. They were either closed or released. It obviously doesn't count the most recent purchases within the past two years as those studios have yet to release games under the full supervision of MS.

lmao...nintendo doesn't like sony, never has and never will. After all, sony backstabbed nintendo to get to where they are. The CEOs at nintendo and phil spencer are probably partying it up right now.
If anything, nintendo will join up with MS before they join sony.

@xantufrog: don't agree with Xbox has more features? Quick resume is the only one feature ps5 does not.
But the ps5 has more feature in its controller.
Ps5 had more features alone to make it feel next gen. While series x felt last gen. Plus the more power is not enough to out way the ps5 to a extent. DC did not have a portfolio of games like Sony. Not even close. By then Sega already screwed up enough by the time DC wasn't going to sell. Look at nin it's been surviving with exclusives alone. Why can't sony?

FPS boost
Auto HDR
Quick Resume
Dolby Vision
1440p mode
Dolby Atmos & DTS (or you can use their own built in solution of Windows Sonic)
VRR and ALLM (Sony says they are releasing VRR but no timetable, no word on ALLM from Sony)
there is far more that Xbox has currently available on their console than just Quick resume as you stated that Sony does not
@regnaston: ps5 has auto hdr. Fps boost? Which games has more FPS than ps5 version? That uses that boost older games ? Vrr I will give you that. Dolby is replaced with the 3d sound tempest chip that makes my TV speakers into a 3d sound space without the need of extra speakers.
They both have there own plus to them.

That was the saddest counter argument I have seen in a LONG time.

Your claim "And Microsoft has closed more studios then it has kept open.", this was false even 2018 and your point made worse now.
I said closed or sold which was 100% true. And no my point isn't made worse now. They have purchased over 20 studios the past three years. It is yet to be seen what will become of them.
They were supposed to have an event in a few weeks. I figure typical self congratulations and pats on their back and riding on the euphoria trail Horizon Forbidden West will (or was supposed to) generate, and maybe some indies, VR, maybe more God of War or one of Naughty Dogs upcoming games... or maybe just their PS Plus/Now rebranding. But they need something more, people will now be expecting it, something that shows Sony's tone is one that will respond to the new developments from competition, but a tone deaf "we're not worried, we're winning, and we'll keep course with our current strategy" could anger the people trying to hold out hope they'll step up their game.
As for the rebranding, going back to $60 games and adding day one first party games and supporting the free upgrade path could really just be easiest way to calm things, I know not everyone wants to see it but essentially it would just be the easiest decision to do on such short notice to such a whopper. But a "we're taking the same PS Plus you enjoy, and taking the same PS Now you enjoy, and bundling them together in a unified recurring subscription package"... gonna piss people off. Don't think it's gonna be that simple though I'd like to give them more credit than that.
@blaznwiipspman1: You can't seem to get much right can you? 😂 Nintendo stabbed Sony in the back by backing out of their partnership and going with panasonic for their snes CD add-on without telling Sony, who found out the next day at the trade show (ces?) where they already announced their partnership with Nintendo. That in turn pissed off Sony and they brought out the PlayStation. The rest is history.
@vfighter: the cows always have some funny story of the backstabbing ways of sony that happened. But end of the day it was a real brutus stabbing ceasar kind of backstab.
END of the day, it doesn't matter, sony is now alive because of nintendo and the world has more movie games than we can handle.

No Sony does not have auto HDR on games that did not come with HDR.
FPS boost is for games that did not originally come with over 30 fps and sony does not have that
Tempest is a poor mans Dolby Atmos (and Dolby Atmos can also be enabled on TV speakers from the XSX/S system menu)

@silentchief: Don't fight your own words. "And Microsoft has closed more studios then it has kept open."😎
Yep. Closed 5 , kept 3 open and the other two that stayed open went independent. Simple math really.
PlayStation is f*****.
I 100% expect them to file a complaint with the DOJ to stop the purchase.
Playstation fans begging Biden to save Playstation 😂
