That's what happens when you let hard-core leftist from California call the shots.
Or what happens when you game has a specific rating in a specific region.
Nope, or it would be censored on Xbox.
This is a a rumor so hopefully this is bullshit.

You know what's embarrassing, when the source's source is 4chan. This isn't the first game said to be doing such a thing only to disappear from any scrutiny over it because the accusations were baseless. But I guess this is a thing now. In both cases though Sony was the target.
Seems like a resurgence of sociopolitical movements to recruit the insecure beta-male gamers same way Breitbart managed to mobilize them to deliver us that fascist sphincter face.
who the f**k cares about anime JRPGs! They s***!
You may not care about JRPGs, but other gamers (who are more open-minded) do.
So funny how the PC guys come in here and act like it's not a big deal, just because this isn't their kind of game, but if the next diablo or crysis was screwed around with by Sony, they'd stomp their feet about a corp changing a devs creation.
Hypocritical? Yes, very.
Im a PC guy ,as well as a console guy (substantially less so the past gen) and I hate any form of censorship in games. My stance has always been, just let the creators do what they want. So try not generalize too much.
Anyway, when shit like this happens, it always sucks. I felt the same way about the dumb ass reason they removed Miranda's butt shots in the Mass Effect remaster. 😂
I wonder if thats been modded back in. 🤔
This is kinda weird, in other similar instances Sony is even more into censoring than Nintendo. I wonder what triggered this sudden change.
PayStation moved its headquarters from Tokyo to California back in 2016. That's what triggered the change. The new California HQ decided to start heavily censoring Japanese content that they deem offensive and just generally treating Japanese developers like crap.
So it's no surprise that most Japanese developers have abandoned Sony and jumped ship to Nintendo:
Is Japanese third party devloper support landsliding to Nintendo Switch actually happening?
Good article from Charizard (as Pramath used to be known around here).
This is the first time in 33 years that a single console has 100% dominated the Japanese top 30 charts. The last time such a feat happened was with the Famicom (NES) way back in 1988.
Sony has lost Japan to Nintendo for good. It was bound to happen, given the way Sony kept treating Japanese developers like crap while alienating Japanese gamers. Sony probably thought it didn't need Japan anymore, and now Nintendo is reaping the rewards from Sony's mishandling in Japan.
In turn, the strong Japanese support for the Switch has had a knock-on effect for the Switch in the global market, where its success is being largely driven by Japanese games (along with indies).
Strangely, Tales of Arise is not on Switch. That's a missed opportunity. It would sell better on Switch than any other platform.

So that's why Shawn Layden, Andrew House, & Jack Tretton left Sony, I guess they have foreseen the downfall of Sony leaving Japan and now, it seems Sony is now paying the price. Sony was indeed the king of Japan for a long time during when Nintendo was still censoring Japanese developers.
I too was surprised to find out Tales of Arise isn't coming to Switch at all. That's a huge miss from Bandai Namco missing out more money since the Switch is selling extremely well...especially in Japan.
@pc_rocks: Your constant stupidity is impressive.
Take it easy on the herms, they grew up not knowing the joys of Japanese niche gaming. Very pitiable.
@shadyacshuns: Ironically, PC has more "weeb" games than any other platform. PC is the platform for weebs.
Yeah, it is now, but when a lot of these herms were growing up they played Western games almost exclusively on PC. Hence why they try to shit on anything anime or Eastern still to this day. So sad.
@shadyacshuns: That's the irony. Those guys must be living under a rock. Steam has a ton of Japanese games nowadays. And the largest PC gaming market is China.
When I was growing up playing home computers, there were many popular Japanese arcade ports (or clones) on home computers. But that was before the time of Doom and Windows 95.
@shadyacshuns: I'm a Hermit and an Otaku so get's get that out of the way. I been collecting Anime/JRPG games on PC whenever I can get'em, I still buy'em on consoles, depends on the game of course. That said, Jag85 is correct that we are seeing more and more Anime fans on PC, even a game like Nekopara series sold extremely well on Steam is proof that PC culture has caught the eyes of Weebs because PC is a safe heaven.
I am absolutely happy that Sony is censoring all of their games for their PlayStation platforms. This needs to happen so that sony fans can wake up and realize that the greatest company of all times is the one who released The "Color TV Game" console in the first generation of gaming. The same company who was here from the beginning and definitely will be here in the end and that company is none other than the legendary video game company known as Nintendo!!!!
@shadyacshuns: I also play Japanese games mainly on PC nowadays. So he's definitely not alone here. It just shows how diverse the PC market is. PC caters to all kinds of audiences. The "master race" hermits only represent a small minority of PC gamers.
Thank the gods for that. :P
Good. Sony is doing what's best for the western audience. Western censorship is common in the anime community.

All the three you mentioned were American executives and were running it from America like an American company. SCE/SIE hasn't been the Japanese company since the end of PS3 gen.
Why wouldn't they transfer their headquarters to US when almost all of the senior management team and executives were American or at least North American. Essentially all they basically did is 'officially' label the US their headquarters, not moved it there.
Good. Sony is doing what's best for the western audience. Western censorship is common in the anime community.
True. Many want a simple copy-paste of Japan to West, but our cultures are not the same.
Age of consent is not 13. Which is what most anime characters look like.
This is why no one likes Persona fans.

Exactly. Take Pokemon for example. These cards never made it to the west due to obvious reasons.
Good job Sony. You've triggered the perverts.
That doesn't align with what you post in PG...

Aren't you known to be anti-PC? As in, not the hardware? Or PI? "F*** all censorship (unless it benefits my side)?" That kind of thing?

I'm pro-capitalism. If consumers don't like Sony's approach here they can vote with their wallets. We both know that a dozen weebs crying over not being able to look up the skirts of in-game characters on PS ain't going to make Sony look bad in the eyes of the general public or hurt their bottom line though.

Given how you treat Nintendo and XBOX fans and the business decisions those companies do, no matter how successful, I find that hard to believe.
Why isn't this thread locked? This rumor is a fake 4chan troll rumor and there's no evidence anywhere of this.

I'm not a fan of the decisions they make. They have every right to run their businesses the way they want though. If Nintendo fanboys want to spend $30 on happy meal toys and $60 on roms then all the power to Nintendo for milking them.
@gym_lion: I strongly disagree. There's no reason to censor anything with ratings on each game no matter if I want to play the game or not (I do not want this by the way). Let the developers make what they envisioned and let the consumers decide with their wallets. Unless they're portraying children or underage people there's nothing on that list that is worthy of being censored.
The great work of Sony California, the homeland of social justice warriors.
That's exactly the look they're going for now. They went from having it all: cool niche Japanese games, exclusives and third party titles, to just this: exclusives and western third party multiplats. They're trying to be a mix of both Nintendo (family friendly) and Microsoft (focus on Western gaming) but the truth is both of those guys do what they do better than Sony ever will.
Just goes to show how delusional Sony has become with their Playstation brand, and it's really starting to bite them in the ass.
@omegamaster: For the record, the swastika means something completely different in Asia. The OG swastika is a Hindu and Buddhist good luck symbol, still commonly used in Eastern cultures like India and Japan (where it's called "manji"). The Nazi swastika was a cultural appropriation that completely changed its meaning in the West.
As a result, localised Western versions of Japanese anime and games scrub out the manji. There's this anime I've been watching recently called Tokyo Revengers, where the manji symbol is heavily featured in the Japanese original but has been scrubbed out from Western versions.
On Japanese maps, the manji symbol is used to refer to temples. But in recent years, the manji signs were removed from Japanese maps to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics, in order to avoid confusion among tourists... though there wasn't much point anymore due to COVID.

Damage control. Keep telling yourself that while Nintendo continues to keep taking a huge dump on Sony in Japan...

...Yeah, that's capitalism in action. The Japanese market has spoken. They're tired of Sony's bullshit, and have jumped ship to Nintendo, handing them their biggest monopoly since 1988!

Yeah, I had thought it was a cultural difference. Didn't know it had some impact on the Olympics and anime :o Very interesting.
Here's an interesting one, Italian football club Fiorentina wore a shirt that featured the swastika in the early '90s... it was a pure coincidence and major design flaw. That shirt was banned straightaway after it had been worn in one match.
