Sony is censoring games because of MeToo movement and Gamergate

My narrative? It says so in the freaking article. Sony censored their stuff to cover their backsides, and they admitted it. The end. Nothing else to attribute to their motivations.

Again, I am not automatically against all censorship. We can agree that paedophilia is unacceptable in a civilized society. That's a red line we do not cross, and there is consensus on that. As for sexism, in what context? Portrayed in what way? To what intent? Is a story set in "sexist" context intended purely for the purpose of storytelling okay? I personally don't see anything inherently wrong with it, as long as it serves a creative purpose. Ultimately, I simply support creators' freedom to pursue their craft in any direction they wish, to let their works be judged on their own merits and original intent, and to tell the hordes of ideologues and internet obsessives who misinterpret their works according to their own biases and obsessions to f*** off.

Sure, as I said, PlayStation is Sony's platform, and they can do whatever the Hell they please with it. Doesn't mean we, as gamers and consumers, shouldn't ask questions whether those decisions are justified. Again, considering Nintendo and Microsoft don't seem to be having the same severity of the problem, what, exactly, is Sony justification for this seemingly elevated level of censorship, other than excessive caution? Your argumentum ad populum is meaningless to this question.

And yeah, ultimately, it's Sony's decision. But forums are a place for discussion, often for the sake of itself. If it's such a waste of time as you claim, why are YOU here, energetically defending Sony's actions as "supporting a great cause" despite their explicit statement to the otherwise?

It's easier for journalists activists to influence games. They practically have an entire stranglehold on every piece of media going out, piggybacking and persecuting all who not adhere to their narrative with the zeal of a Spanish Inquisitor.

Yeah unlike right/conservatives the left have made much more of an impact because they straight up just invaded the industry. Games are not only getting censored to pander to their outrage but game developers are also getting fired for disagreeing with them and those that don't get fired they try attacking their entire studio and products. They've taken over gaming journalism so now we got a bunch of game reviewers that don't play games and suck at them and games get reviewed based on how well they appeal to their political agenda instead of actual gameplay, level design, art, soundtracks and etc. So now games are getting low scores because they aren't Trump Supporter killing simulators (Far Cry 5) or they make a joke they find offensive (Shadow Warrior 2).

They're also ruining games because they get hired by studios solely because of their political agenda and not merit. A lot of these people turn out to be lacking in skills and creativity which explains why they want to alter already established IPs instead of creating their own things because they know they suck at making things people like.

So many people here, not 1 has played Dmc5 to know they put removed the censorship and it is indeed just underage girls being censored.

That legislation never passed because Joe Lieberman, like Hilary, finally concluded that outright banning games is against the tenets of the first amendment.

As far as this this administration doing anything? Who's to say? Trump is happy to get his pen out and sign any executive order he pleases. A few years ago, I'd never thought I'd see citizens from certain countries being banned from entering the US, trans people kicked out the military after being allowed to enter, etc etc. This isn't a problem exclusively for the left, as republicans used to play the moralist card until Trump came around, but politicians who want to score points by using a scapegoat to push agendas.

Corporations are usually the entities that don't want to alienate customers, so they do things to try and appeal to more people and try to be more inclusive. This goes against the right who have become far more exclusive over the years.

Sexuality isn't creepy. Sexualizing minors is, which is why I wouldn't blame a console maker for blocking games about loli groping and all that shit. Cracking down on sexuality among adult characters in console games is overstepping the bounds, especially since there's a ratings system in place. Gaming is mature enough as a medium to have all kinds of content to explore as much as film. If Sony is extending to that, then it IS reductive.

As technoligy progresses and the boundaries for entry lowering though subscription like services and cheaper, better types of VR tech, if anything sex games will become more mainstream. Trying to block that is just bad business in the long run. Others will prosper.

@Ant_17: Doesn't change the fact that they censored DMCV in the first place which shows how far they're willing to go which isn't stopping at underage girls. They only undid DMCV censorship because of the massive backlash they got. Won't be surprised if they try this again with a less popular game.

@mosquitobaby: In a fight you typically don't want a bunch of clothes or armour on because all it will do is restrict your movement and slow you down. It can also be used against you (choked with it, pulled by it, pulled over head etc...) I get you don't know anything about this because you've probably never been in a physical altercation in your life, but thats the truth.

It's a fantasy fighting game, none of this shit matters. As long as it's fun and the art-style is cohesive.

Just because someone is comfortable with their body, it doesn't mean they're ok with being naked in front of everyone. Clothing is also a great way to express yourself, stay warm, and keep professional (not everyone naked on the streets lmao). You're also obviously going to be judged by your clothing or lack of it.

I just don't see why people go crazy over body parts when we do see them. It looks silly when, for example, they'll show an entire women's breast but censor the nipple. Like THAT'S what concerns you? I don't know if this has been discuss but the main reason why Sony is censoring their games all of a sudden is the fact Sony HQ move to California and being part of the U.S, they have no choice but to go by U.S Custom Laws and so with that, the rise of "MeToo movement" & as for Gamergate, that's soooo 2014 and we have totally fully discuss gamergate back in Games Discussion years ago. (I was their defending Anita Sharkeesian)

As far as I'm concern, Sony can do whatever they want, I buy my ecchi games on PC anyways, so I have total freedom cause I can do whatever I want and how I want. Console gamers just don't have a choice but to follow Sony's Law.

DMCV doesn't do what Senran Kagura does and it got censored anyway. This isn't about underage girls anymore but any woman being naked or seen in any sexual way. Seeing as how Sony felt they needed to censor a woman's butt crack. Cyberpunk 2077 has nudity and will have sexual encounters. Within the first 10 minutes of their gameplay reveal you see and carry a naked girl with her nips in your face and later see a more than generous shot of V's ass. There is even a red light district in the game with strippers dancing and posters/displays of ass and crotch shots. If Sony doesn't censor any of that it would have to do with how heavily popular CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077 are.

All the females in Warriors Orochi 4 are adults and don't look like underage girls yet the boob physics got taken out because of Sony's policy.

Maybe, but I am guessing Sony's US headquarters being in bay area probably plays equally a significant role. Anita Sarkessian giving Naughty Dog and by extension Sony an award for their depiction of women in gaming probably had Sony execs feeling quite proud and might have a big influence on these issues. I am not sure though I care. Haven't felt like I have gotten less from anything I have played because of it, not that I can recall.

Street Fighter V has a lot of great costumes of all varities, it's possibly a bit TOO sexy at times tbqh (makes it kinda... HARD to concentrate) but I'd much prefer it to MK11's Sharia uggo designs. Gtfo with that trash.

I can understand companies fear the mob. The mob is unpredictable, irrational, emotional. It gets a lot of coverage by the controverse-hungry media beating the war drums. They get all the room they need to speak their dogma on talks and interviews but they will not return the favor. As a company it's made difficult to see the reality of the situation. The reality being that you can't do right by them. It's useless. They are unreasonable and don't want a fair discussion about it. It's one lie after the other. It's better to ignore them as a business. And since they are banning normal voices and arguments from places of discussion for years now, in places where gaming companies would normally communicate with their fans, I think it's tougher than ever for these companies to see what the masses actually think about it.

And now they are potentially starting to exert extremist control over our entertainment? IMO that just goes a bit too far. They can preach and lie whatever they want and it's fine, but don't let them actually write the rules without talking to the other people. Don't base rules on emotional outbursts. It won't do anyone any good.

Sony won me over this generation with their exclusives I never thought I get into console gaming again once I started PC gaming in 05 I skipped the PS3 last gen and have no problem doing it next gen if they keep pulling this shit.
