Yeah, and thats only one day.
But I doubt MGS4 can produce that much on its first day.
And i wont be getting halo 2 for 2 weeks.
I got on live today and 3/4 of my friends list was playing halo 3.
oh well.
Spiderman 3 had like 800 million in the end, first day doesn't matter as much as the end result. ZanuffC
And over 1 billion $$ around the world. 1st day sales mean nothing. remember PS3 1st day sales.

You realize the sony has already lost 2+ billion dollars on the ps3 right and losing 200+ dollars per console sold?
And that wii is making 70$ now per console sold and 360 is making 40$ per console right?
Trust me mate for all the worth that sony has made they are lucky ps2 is still selling strong otherwise there gaming division would be a hugh money hole right now (every ps2 sold makes up for the half the ps3 lost costs).
Yeh well too bad Microsoft has lost billions since the original Xbox has launched... i guess 170million helps slightly but ther still losing money. GarchomProyeah basicly, and lets not forget the warrenty...and the fact that they dont make alot of profit for the 360

MS has a Monpoly on the PC market, Sony has no Monpolieslol Spiderman movie tickets only cost $5 while Halo cost $60+ it isnt really a far comparationThanatos465Well movie tickets are 8 bucks around here but your point still stands.
Halo3: $170 million / $60 (being generous here) = 2,833,333.333... copies sold
Spiderman 3: $151 million / $8 = $18,875,000 tickets sold
Even if movie tickets were $30 a pop *coughjapancough*, 5,033,333.333... tickets still would have been sold.

This is dumb. Halo is >$60 when Spiderman is like $5. If you divide $170mil into 12, you get $14.17mil. So Spiderman did sell more.
P.S. For you mathematically challenged, I didvided by 12 because 5 goes into 60 twelve times.
AIH_PSP
Well, movie tickets are around $8 these days, but Halo is $60, or $140 for those true fanatics who had to have the special edition. So yeah, each Halo sold is the equivalent of either 8 or 18 movie tickets sold. Why would anyone be surprised at a game with as much hype and media frenzy as Halo having a bigger opening day than a movie? The video game industry passed the box-office movie industry in annual entertainment dollars spent several years ago.
lol Spiderman movie tickets only cost $5 while Halo cost $60+ it isnt really a far comparationThanatos465If spiderman cost 60 dollars to go see it.. How many people do you think would have actually went to go watch it at that price? The fact Halo 3 generated that kind of money for a 60 dollar product speaks volumes about how well known and popular the Halo franchise is.
lol Spiderman movie tickets only cost $5 while Halo cost $60+ it isnt really a far comparationThanatos465
Thank you.
Very unfair comparison. Lets say the average movie ticket in the world was 10 bucks. Since it was on Imax and on normal screens. 151 million divided by 10 bucks equals 15,100,000 million people saw Spider Man 3 opening weekend. Now Halo 3 came in at 60 bucks and 130 bucks. Will say for Halo's sake that only 30% of people purchased the 130 dollar version.
.70 x 170,000,000 = 119,000,000 Million dollars.
.30 x 170,000,000 = 51,000,000 million dollars.
119,000,000 / 60 bucks = 1,983,333 people who bought Halo 3 regular version
51,000,000 / 130 bucks = 392,307 people bought the legendary edition
For a grand total of 2,022,570 people bought Halo 3 in 24 hours vs 15,100,000 people watching Spider Man 3 in a 3 day weekend. Oh yea Spider man so got owned sinced what 2,022,570 / 15,100,000 = 13.4% is the amount of people that bought Halo 3 compared to those that watched SPider man 3. What those numbers really mean is that Bill Gates 's 66,000 square foot home will be paid for while ur still in ur apartment paying some smuck rent.
Cows are trying Damage control.. LOL I said when this game came out.. Master Chief would finish the fight.. Right now MS just crushed Sony.. Those are only the game numbers.. Just wait when the console figures start rolling in from now till Xmas..
Sorry Sony.. You have been weighed.. You have been measured.. And you have been found wanting.. :D

Cause games tend not to even come close. A game is more expensive but more people go see the movies because it's cheaper and they tend to go in bunches. Group of friends, parents with their kids ect... while a game is usually just one purchase for a whole household. Don't forget that they also have to buy a console which wil cost them a few 100 bucks, while they just have to drive to their local theater to see a movie.PS The Spider-Man numbers are for the openning weekend and the Halo numbers are for the first 24 hourse.

Yeah its too bad you dont get to play this game, instead you get LAIR!!!!The gears of war killer.
I doubt MGS4 will generate sales like Halo 3. But I am very confident that the game experience will be just as good if not better.
Halo 3 did amazingly well for a video game launch :). But think about it: $60 & $130 will rack up to a high number very fast, especially if a game is extremely popular. Remember Spider-Man 3 was only $7 per person and it still generated ridiculous numbers.
IN THE END: Great news for Microsoft. They will finally be profitable this holiday season with Halo 3.
[QUOTE="Thanatos465"]lol Spiderman movie tickets only cost $5 while Halo cost $60+ it isnt really a far comparationVoodooHak
Forget the fact that movie tickets are at least 10, not 5, it's a totally fair comparison.
Success is measured in revenue brought in, not unit sales.
The price of movie tickets varies depending on where you are. Some places are $5, some $10 and some even more. Also, success is measured by net income, not just revenue. You can get all the revinue in the world from a product, if most of that money goes to paying off employees, production costs, advertising costs, shipping costs, taxes and such and your left with little money remaining, it doesn't really matter in the long run.
