you kinda have to think about the demographic group that the filmmaker/game developer is going for.
Spiderman, the target audience is super huge, kids wanna watch it. Teens and people in the 30s wanna watch it. Even if the adults over 45 and up don't really care about spiderman, they still might have to take their kids and spouses' to the movie.plus you don't need an household installment base for spiderman like Halo 3
As far as Halo 3, they're only going for kids over 17(hence rated M) up to maybe 30-35 top, and it's only exclusively for people who owns the 360 which is not a lot compare to kids and adults who's might wanna watch spiderman in the US.

You realize the sony has already lost 2+ billion dollars on the ps3 right and losing 200+ dollars per console sold?

And that wii is making 70$ now per console sold and 360 is making 40$ per console right?

Trust me mate for all the worth that sony has made they are lucky ps2 is still selling strong otherwise there gaming division would be a hugh money hole right now (every ps2 sold makes up for the half the ps3 lost costs).

if M$ is making money why are still int he red since 01? why are they replacing xbox's every other day for current users? trust me if anybody is making any money off their consoles, it'd be sony and nintendo, sony with older system sales to subside the ps3 costs and the nintendo's wii.

4. This will be good for everyone. Competition is the best thing for consumers. Neither Sony nor Nintendo are going anywhere. Everyone is going to play amazing games regardless of what console they have.

Well, I can explain that. The fanboywho made this thread hates Sony, so only they are crapping their pants when Spiderman 3 (movie) is compared to Halo 3 (game).

I actually pay attention to business news and Microsoft expects their gaming division to start profiting from the success of Halo 3.

And you should also know, since you are well versed in business and news, that but for MS taking a charge of $1B in their fiscal quarter ending June 31, they would not be turning a profit. In other words, if they took the charges as they accrued, instead of accelerating the estimated losses all into one quarter that just ended, i.e. an accounting maneuver, I'm not sure MS would even turn a profit with Halo 3. Since part of that $1B would be allocated to this quarter, quite possibly wiping out any profit from Halo 3.

It's perfectly acceptable what they did according to GAAP, and it's actually quite a clever maneuver, but the profit MS will turn this quarter is probably totally manufactured, and if you think about it in a cash basis and not an accrual basis, quite possibly would have not occurred.

Oh, and this is quite an impressive feat by MS no doubt, and I don't get hung up on the $60 vs. $8 prices (movie ticket prices, more like $10 in my area), it's revenue, but what are the numbers worldwide for release?
