Sony is in trouble... Who would've predicted this bad?

- Have been outsold every single month since launch. Even the ps2 is outselling it

- Massive amount of sku's. They are so desperate it's like a sku a week is being made

- The power of the cell is overated. 360 still has the best looking games. Even 3rd party games look better on 360

- Flops like lair does not help matters. Not a single AAA exclusive across the board. OUCH!

- Prices are dropping like mad. How much will they lose on the new versions?

- Often hype stuff then they take it back because of failure. Backwards compatibility anyone?

- Losing in Japan. Sony owned this terriotry the last 2 generations. Now they are getting pounded by the wii.

- Have lost lots of exclusives including Playstation brand games. Guess Developers are seeing it.

- Still the most expensive console.

It's 11 million vs 5 Million (check your facts) and the 360 is 1 yr ahead of PS3. Seems like it's on par to me.

Here's what really is tough on the early adopters.

The 360 cost 399.99 in Nov. 2005 and now cost 349.99 so 360 early buyers have it good.

The PS3 early buyers have seen that, had they waited less then a yea,r they would have saved 200.00 !

At this rate I'm going to " Wait " for the 199.99 PS3 sku which should show up mid next year ! :D

The way I see it Sony has 3 main problems

Price - Which they have just gone a long way to rectifying.

Exclusives - Hopefully there Xmas lineup improves things but it doesn't look promising until 2008.

Multiplats - 360 games have a definate advantage here. Usualy being released weeks/months earlier on 360 and often with better perfromance plus the advatages of achievemens and live. Sony really need to sort out there develoepr support and get Home launched.

PS3 has been out almost a year now at that crazy price (5 mil as some change sold), I personally think it is doing ok, probably not selling as fast as Sony would like it to but not bad at all. Wii is doing good because it is cheap (games aren't that great), 360 is doing great mainly because of software and a year head start (we really don't need to bring up the hardware we all know it is even worse than the ps2). Wont last for 6 months? PS3 havent even released an iconic Playstation brand game yet. Also the 360 has few coming promising exlcusive games in the next 1.5 years while the PS3 has a number of them.

People say the library for the Wii is weak. I still argue the Wii library is much better then the current ps3's. Zelda: TP is better then any ps3 game out there. Hell, even metroid prime 3 is better then any ps3 exclusive at this point. It's a weak system with games not being it's top priority. Looks like they bit off more then they can chew. I read somewhere it cost double, tripple and even more so making a game for the ps3 compared to the xbox 360. Crazy Ken's ghost is still haunting sony.Nin360

Third highest week of sales since launch

PlayStation 3 hardware sales jumped 178 per cent last week with the introduction of two new SKUs, helping the system record its third highest week since launch in the UK.

Data supplied to GamesIndustry.biz reveals that although Sony's console enjoyed a considerable sales boost, Nintendo's DS was still the best-selling hardware system in the UK, followed by the Wii and then the PS3, with the Xbox 360 behind its home console rival.

Two new PS3 models were introduced to market last Wednesday. A 40GB model with less functions has gone on sale for GBP 299, and the 60GB model has been reduced to GBP 349, bundled with two free first-party games.

PS3 software has also enjoyed a resurgence, with Resistance: Fall of Man climbing the all-formats charts from 22 to eight, Heavenly Sword re-entering the top 40 at number 14, MotorStorm moving from 22 to 18, and Formula 1: Championship Edition also back in the official charts at number 24.

Your forgot the fact that not all exclusive games is first party so Sony doesnt have the power to announce them all! Also I'm not only talking about officially announced games here but also rumored to be released games because games under development are hard to be kept secret. Its not like MS will surprise the gaming world with a numberbig titles half a year before it releases.

Sony will be bought out very soon. I wouldn't say in the next few weeks or anything, but they will be bought out by somebody in the next year or so. It is going to happen. Once you have destabilized the table the weight of everything that the table was supporting will bring the table crashing down. Sony's gaming division USED to be Sony's bread and butter. Unless they pull off some kind of magic it is going to be bad for Sony. It will be felt all the way up the corporate ladder and you will see leadership change and a possibility of a buyout.

No company the size of Sony is ever easily bought out. I doubt a controlling interest of thier stock is even available for aquisition.

Problem is that the consumer isn't just looking at GS. The Wii has Zelda TP and Metroid Prime 3 which are both 90%+ across the board. Yes scores of GS only count in SW but the world doesn't go by SW they go by the collective sum.

I wouldn't say Sony's in trouble, just the ps3. The one thing people are forgetting here is that 360 will always have NA, while the Wii dominates the rest of the world. The ps3 is last in every region apart from Japan, it sells poorly in NA, poorly in Japan, and okay in Europe(has its ups and downs, seems its on a up at this moment in time).

From this info i predict unless Wii is a 'fad' that the Wii will lead this console race, 360 has NA and UK but nothing else so it will most likely come second, and finally unless there's a dramatic increase in sales all over the world ps3 will be last, no region favours ps3 atm.

What i'm afraid of is if ps3 doesn't have a good Holiday season this year, then all this hype over 08 might come to nothing. The ps3has a bad attach rate and if it doesn't increase it userbase, then developers looking to make alot of money to compensate the developing costs (Heavenly Sword cost 30-40mil to make and in its first month only sold 170k, NA only i might add)will look elsewhere and make the games multiplatform. I mean how can they resist the 360 its a gold mine for developers, okay games sell good, good games sell very well, great games sell over a million, and the big popular superb system sellers sell of the chart eg Halo3 and GeOW. Imagine huge franchises such asMGS4 and FF13 on the 360, they both would easily sell over million+, especially MGS4 as its a shooter.

Lets hope ps3 stays in the race because we all need competition. Without it games would become dull and boring, with the same game being released with a slight upgrade over and over again eg sport games, DW.

And actually, five million in the PS3's first 11 months is really quite good considering that, until recently, the console cost a fortune and had very few good exclusives.

And now that the pice is right, and the it's finally starting to get some really good games, I think we're going to see the PS3 outselling the 360 very soon.
