Sony is in trouble... Who would've predicted this bad?

I don't count bundled SKUs as extras. The newly named Arcade SKU = core with extras. The newer HDMI models is nothing short of adding something that improves the system, ala PS2 slim.

The PS3 has had 4 so far. First the 60GB and 20GB. Those have now been discontinued. Now they will have the 80GB and 40GB, both of which are dumped down considering the one doesn't have the card holders in the front and neither are BC.

The 360 has only had 4. The core is still the core system, with bundled with extras. The premium and elite are also being bundled this holiday season. The Halo 3 edition is a premium with a paint job so I'm not really sure you could call that an extra SKU. None have been discontinued by the way.

The Core system has been discontinued, and they went with the Arcade one. Just so u can get ur facts straight

the ps3 has what exactly? lair? heavenly sowrd? uncharted? r n' c? regardless what cows on this board think, uncharted is an unproven ip that doesn't look to be a system seller. r n' c also is not a system seller. the ps3 heavy hitters aren't coming out until sometime 2008 with a possibility of not coming out until 2009.

my point is, no consumer is willing to pay $400 - $500 for a console with next to nothing to play and have to wait 1 or 2 years for a game which they may not even be interested in. whereas if they buy the 360, they have tons of games to play and at a lower entry cost than the ps3. mark my words, the ps3 will not catch up to the ps3 by mid-january and it will end up in last place this gen (if sony doesn't decide to pull the plug early on this blunder-of-a-console. )

as a 360 owner ( the original 360 premium ) i can tell you that the premium was the core with extras. the elite and halo editions are considered different sku's do the the higher capacity offerings and the different colors. the two launch ps3 sku's were pretty much in the same boat except that the 20gb didn't have the card reader, the chrome finish, and a smaller hdd. due to the differences, whether small or large, they are considered different sku's because they do not offer the same features per package.

If cows are in "damage control" then why are so many cows happy with the PS3 and why is all the criticism coming from Sony haters who made up their mind to hate the PS3 long before it ever came out? If cows are in such damage control, then why does the anti-Sony noise machine always crank up when Sony does something to improve their competitive position?

I make no claim that the PS3 is doing great, or that it will be #1. I simply state the facts and refute incorrect claims by others. In this case, there is no proof that Sony is "in trouble" (yet), and the console isn't even one year old so it is hard to act as if it is doing "bad" and is doomed. Hell, I find it hillarious that the facts show that the PS3 is selling roughly equivalent to the 360 during their respective launch periods...and that is DESPITE the fact that the 360 has a superior library, and is cheaper.

I mean, if the PS3 can still be competitive even though it has no games and costs more, what is going to happen when the games DO come out and the price comes down (like now and Nov.2)? Seriously? I think THAT is why lemmings are going to insane with the hatred right now. They are worried about what will happen when Sony starts actually offering gamers what they want at a reasonable price...because clearly the 360 sales thus far aren't setting the world on fire, being identical to the original Xbox.

If lemmings weren't so obsessed with everything Sony said and did, then they could just shut it and enjoy their console. If lemmings were REAL GAMERS, then they wouldn't care about SOny, they would just enjoy their console. Instead the vast majority of posts by lemmings are either Sony bashing, or when MS does something good, they claim it is Sony ownage and a sign Sony is dead.

Third highest week of sales since launch

PlayStation 3 hardware sales jumped 178 per cent last week with the introduction of two new SKUs, helping the system record its third highest week since launch in the UK.

Data supplied to GamesIndustry.biz reveals that although Sony's console enjoyed a considerable sales boost, Nintendo's DS was still the best-selling hardware system in the UK, followed by the Wii and then the PS3, with the Xbox 360 behind its home console rival.

Two new PS3 models were introduced to market last Wednesday. A 40GB model with less functions has gone on sale for GBP 299, and the 60GB model has been reduced to GBP 349, bundled with two free first-party games.

PS3 software has also enjoyed a resurgence, with Resistance: Fall of Man climbing the all-formats charts from 22 to eight, Heavenly Sword re-entering the top 40 at number 14, MotorStorm moving from 22 to 18, and Formula 1: Championship Edition also back in the official charts at number 24.

no. remember they sold 10 million in the first year. they sold about 2 million from january until now. sony on the other hand, has sold 5 milllion consoles in 11 months. they will not get close to the 10 million mark at the end of the holiday. period.

it's a small price to pay for a console that plays games. also, ms fixes the problem for free while sony charges you for it. remember the ps2 dre's? they charged the consumer to fix their faulty hardware until they got sued.

I agree it looks bad for the ps3 right now but I dont think its as bad as it seems.

Ultimatly I think the ps3 will perform really well as its life goes on.

But who knows, only time will tell.

- Have been outsold every single month since launch. Even the ps2 is outselling it

- Massive amount of sku's. They are so desperate it's like a sku a week is being made

- The power of the cell is overated. 360 still has the best looking games. Even 3rd party games look better on 360

- Flops like lair does not help matters. Not a single AAA exclusive across the board. OUCH!

- Prices are dropping like mad. How much will they lose on the new versions?

- Often hype stuff then they take it back because of failure. Backwards compatibility anyone?

- Losing in Japan. Sony owned this terriotry the last 2 generations. Now they are getting pounded by the wii.

- Have lost lots of exclusives including Playstation brand games. Guess Developers are seeing it.

- Still the most expensive console.

How is every game that the ps3 has a flagship title? Because they have commercials? Blue-dragon had commercials as long as many other games, does it make them flagship titles? no.... fact is no big hitters for the PS3 have come out yet. So there is no arguement until that happens...

- I believe Sony makes the ps2... too. So yeah they're in trouble when the 3 consoles they have released have combined to sell over 130 million units.
