The simple reason why Sony is not dead is because everyone wants a PS3. Now you might not want one now or you want one now but can't afford one, but the truth is you want one. Hell I want a PS3 and I am what most would call a "lemming" (really I just like games doesn't matter what console).

See the fact of the matter is yes the PS3 is the more technically advanced system. Well this is disputable depending on who you ask, but most will agree the PS3 has a little more under the hood than the 360. So why hasn't everyone gone out and bought a PS3 if everyone wants one? Well its a combination of a few factors that are all linked together. First the price. Lets be honest $600 at launch was just too much to ask for a gaming system. Especially when it had no real jaw dropping "OMG look at that I want it now" game to launch with. Even with Blu Ray its not worth it because most people play DVDs and are perfectly fine with the format. $600 was just too much to ask. Now at $500 its a little better but still too much to ask for most people.

Why is $500 too much to ask for? Well because there are no games. Now slow down fanboys i'm not saying the PS3 doesn't any good games. It does but lets look at what really are the best games. Oblivion: Great game but it came on 360 first which stole all its PS3 thunder. It was not a system seller. Those that realy wanted to play Oblivion baught a 360 to play it. Ninja Gaiden Sigma: Great game but Ninja Gaiden #414341341324 is not going to sell PS3s. Most people have already played that game. Rainbow 6 Vegas: Great game...better on 360. Resistance: Fall of man: Great game but no one wants a PS3 to play shooters. Now there are other good games on PS3 but none of them are system seller or are on the 360 and look just as good on it. Which brings me to the next point.

The 360 is a very powerful console. Those jokes about it being Xbox 1.5 have all been put to rest. It is very capable and can flex its muscles every bit as big as the PS3 can. The two consoles are pretty much eaven. PS3 might have a slight edge but it hasn't been shown yet. The 360's power coupled with its easy development mean that many multi plats look better on the 360. Its hard to pay $500 bucks for something when you can pay $350 and play the same games at the same or better quality.

What will save the PS3? Again everyone wants a PS3 but they are waiting. No one has really made the switch they are just waiting for PS3 to finally deliver the goods. I as a true fan of gaming hope they do. So these next couple of years are going to put the pressure on Sony to deliver. We aren't going to pay $500 for your console if it doesn't have games and can't produce anything that blows the 360 out the water. We are going to wait till there is a significant price drop if anything else. So the PS3 is not dead its really hurting but its time for Sony to show and prove. I want them to, the millions of people who baught a PS2 want them to, we all want to see some sexiness come out that black box. When that happens we will run to the stores and get one. Untill then we are happy with our 360s, Wiis, and hell PS2s.

Truth .. (Only read the first paragraphc) ... I want one, after the Halo 3 multiplayer has worn off to me, and when I have played Mass Effect, I will probably sell the Xbox360 fora PS3 IF I have to, but I also want a Wii aswell :S...

Should of bought 1 of those 2 instead of a 360 , played Vegas for about a week, rented gears ... made me a sad panda :(

Sony isn't dead because gaming isn't its only market it has quite a few markets that all sell well. It and Microsoft will always have strong financial backings that can't be beat. So unlike Atari and Sega consoles Sony consoles can't die they have a large amount of money even with poor sales.

The PS3 is still alive as long as BR is still alive, and all evidence is pointing in the general direction of "a long time". Sony released the PS3 at the perfect time, its price will be within only $100 or so of the price of the average BR player, which means a person can buy a BR player and get a PS3 as a "bonus" for only $100 more. Sony could stop releasing games after 2008 for the PS3 and it will still sell over 20 million units.

I don't want a PS3. It has nothing I want, I have 14 games already for my 360 and several on my laptop so I couldn't spend any more time playing games even if I wanted to. I wouldn't want one even if it was free, I'd never use it and it would just take up space. Your main argument is wrong.

Im a lemming too. I bought a ps3 at launch. Im not happy with it. I have purchased a total of 3 games in 9 months. Sony got my $600 + , but they are not getting much more outta me. I certainly do not recommend the system to people i know, and , i have actually persuaded several people from buying one.

I'm so sick of hearing how the PS3 is the more technically advanced system. The PS3 hasn't proven nothing to that effect as of yet, so whats the point about gloating about it or running out and getting one now?

I don't think the 1.5 comments was just a joke but a rally cry for Sony to dreamcast the 360. What it comes down to is games and Sony has some stong exclusives coming down the pipe so Sony is not dead yet, but the two consoles are very close in power, and the power gap difference won't play much of a roll in the succes of the consoles. Just look at past gen with PS2 the least powerful but the most sold, same with this gen with succes of the Wii.

I got one a few days after the launch, I didn't want it. I took it back. There was no reason to own one at the time. There is still no reason to own one now. Sony is not dead, Playstation is not dead, but the age of the Playstation's market dominance is clearly over.

I agree. I think the ps3 is doing horrible. It's selling worse than it's predecessor ( while it's competition both are selling better), it's being sold at a loss and not doin to well on the online front. But does that mean Sony is dead? No. Does it mean that Playstation is dead. Hell no. Sony will be fine...they just got alittle too cocky and screwed up. They're not Sega u know.

I would guestimate that half of the people that bought a ps2 will want and will have the means to get one eventually. And the ps2 numbers are still growing too. The other half will half to make sacrifices and go with something else because of the intitial pricetag is too steep for their budget or their parents budget. I mean I just bought a computer and I had to settle for something cheaper and more inferior than what I actually wanted. It happens ...... *shugs shoulders*

HDDVD is beating Blu-ray that's why some big studios just dropped Blu-ray. The Ps3 didn't help much for Blu-ray like Sony thought it would.

it's true. the ps3 is the most wanted console in my country. in fact, ppl are only waiting till the price drops around $400 or $300 and waiting the console to have pirated games to buy it. :P

but the PS3 is the first console i see ppl buying the original stuff here. there are a lot of ppl, buying the system while it still has a high price and buying original games. that's far from common in a third world country.

Huh? What? You need to do some research before posting sir. Last time I checked, HDDVD is still behind Bluray.

Christmas 2007 is going to be good for Sony (much better than people expect).

But it won't be till 2008 with big games like GT5, MGSIV, GTAIV and FFXIII that PS3 really takes off in sales (and PS2 really slows down in sales).

i want a ps3 too, i had the money for it and i would pay full price even with the only bit of good games it has now because i love all games but when i had the money i had a choice between two systems,360 and wii or just the ps3 so i knew i'd get more games out of two systems so i just got those two but as soon as i get enough money i'll buy the ps3 and lots of people i know say that too, that it's just too much money so all sony really needs is either a bit more of a price drop or alot more better games to justify the high price but i'd still buy it right now if i had the money but thats cause i spend most of my time playing games and thats where most of my money goes hah sometimes i dont even eat all day just so i can save up for games and i buy the cheapest clothes i can just so i have more for games but yeah its just the price really.

I agree everyone wants a ps3, at least everyone that knows i have one gets excited and wants to come over and play it, even my mates with 360s. Its definately the price ($1000 over here) stoping people.
