I think one of the reasons why Sony was getting off to a bad start was because of some of the titles they were allowing onto their system. They simply don't cater to the traditional owner of a playstation console. Games such as Resistance and Killzone aren't in the tradition of the Playstation. However, recently Sony is starting to rediscover what Playstation users demand. Games such as Little Big Planet, Mod Nation Racers, Uncharted, Demons Souls, Final Fantasy XIII and God of War are what traditional Playstation users demand from their system.

Look at MAG vs Heavy Rain. Heavy Rain has sold over a million units, whereas Mag struggles at 500,000. Typically, players that like gamessuch as MAG, Resistance or Killzone play on anotherbox. Certainly, there is a place on the Playstation for games like MAG, Killzone or Resistance, but the focus should always be on titles like Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Heavy Rainor God of War.

I agree but also dont, resistance 2 was crap and 1 was a lot better and killzone 2 was great but the controls were too sluggish for mass appeal, Killzone 2 had a lot of selling potential I mean call of duty modern warfare 2 is the highest selling ps3 game.....but killzone 2s controls let it down wether people like to admit it or not. I do agree that playstation owners do like the High budget or unique single player games though, and well the play create share genre is new but very welcome im sure even 360 owners would like Little big planet on there system, the replay value is just never ending.

you mean last gen they saw the Halo money pie and wanted it all? naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw, can't be heh

anyways yes they're slowly starting to release more games that resemble what made them successful in the first place

albeit minus the graphics focus, as graphics never made them successful, but that's besides the point i guess

I hear black people like fried chicken and watermelon, and that all mexicans eat rice and beans.

I've also heard all asian people drive horribly, and that all southerners are stupid rednecks.

I've also heard something about Irish guys that make me

See a pattern here?

There's a pattern ? xD jk but that was witty.... right ?

Yep, and some plattformers.

One of the reasons why the PS3 is the only console i don't have this gen. PS/PS2 were my main consoles in the previous two generations.

I'm a playstation owner and I like shooters. I liked them last gen (medal of honor , socom , timesplitters , killzone, etc), but craved more. They are not only taking care of me , but millions of others. MAG isn't really the best example because it's an ONLINE only title. If they don't compete with shooters and onlne gaming in the western market....PS3 will get crushed in sales. Sony was incredibly smart to invest there. I probably would have bought a 360 by now if Resistance , Warhawk , Killzone , Socom , and MAG were't available. I'd have to have a ps3 for my action adventure system sellers , and then a 360 and $50 per year for my shooters and online. :?

Thank you Sony.

It's kind of interesting because I can tell you the entire backstory for Nathan Drake, or go on about Kratos's backstory or why Elena and Drake is better than Drake and Claudia....

yet I can't tell you the name of the main character in Killzone 2. :P

Not really a problem since the Wii is technically in more of the tradition of the PS1 and PS2 than the PS3 currently is. The will has a ton of exclusives and a complete balance of just about every genre.

This has been Sony's best generation for shooters of all creeds

Maybe because Uncharted is a character driven story, whereas Killzone 2 is not.

There's a lot less attention paid to the characters in KZ2 compared to the original, the story just isn't as good.

Thats just KZ2. The original had a lot more interesting character interaction and back-story. Nothing epic but it was there.

Lets hope they let us know more about our characters than just about Visari and his little war. Boo-hoo.

Yeah, but Uncharted is epic... I mean, when Uncharted 2 was shown at E3 a few years ago... the biggest cheer came when people discovered Elena was back. :P It wasn't the train or helecopter sequence... it was a scene of Elena saying "Elena Fisher, last year's model"

Yeah, the Uncharted series definitely has the best story and characters ever in an action game. It may be corny at times but its amazing. I really wish KZ2's story/characters was more like the original, but its a not a deal breaker for an FPS with me.

I gotta agree here. If you are a PS3 owner, do you really need anything beyond the multiplat FPS? I mean, out of all the FPS on the PS3, the best selling ones are the multiplats.

I rub Killzone 2 in their faces every chance I get , it drives them wild. They got Killzown'd! And I also rub the fact that I have Warhawk , Resistance , Killzone , MAG , Uncharted 2 , MGO , and free online compared to Halo , Gears ofBore , and perfect flop zero for $50 per year. It drives them wild. They can't refute the irrefutable.

Shooterstation 3 > shooterbox 360. Trey 4 Li4e. Rico > Master chef , muhahahahaha.

Yes, but sales do = popularity.

Sony should really focus on what got them into first place and focus on getting character and story driven titles onto their systems, rather than mindless shooters. Sure there should be a few, but IMO, there are far too many on the PS3 right now. When I think back to the great games of PS1 and PS2, they are all character/story driven.... with a few exceptions of course for games like Gran Turismo

PS1 = Final Fantasy VII-IX, Xenoblade, Lunar 1-2, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid etc...

PS2 = Final Fantasy X, Xenosaga Trilogy, Ico, Kingdom Hearts, God of War 1-2 etc...

PS3 = Uncharted 1-2, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, MGS4, God of War III

PS3 needs more titles like those. I think maybe part of the problem is that generic FPS have the shortest dev cycle out of all the genres so maybe that's why they can spit them out so fast. And of course, people who like those games don't really prioritize story.

Easy:

The release lineup was a disaster zone. Yeah you ahd some decent games, but realy, none of them were realy worth buying the system for.

If PS3 was shipped with GT5, GoW2 (made for the PS3 ofcourse), MGS4, a Final Fantasy and a SOCOM game it would probably be hitting 60-70 million sales right now.

The problem is that with the exception of Socom, those games have huge development cycles, especially Final Fantasy and GT. It's not possible to have them ready for launch.

The PS1 was better at story driven games because of its standard controller and horsepower, it simply failed at producing quality FPS's for these reasons. I wouldn't like to say Sony ''needs'' a top FPS franchise, but KZ2 is definitely the exclusive killer app that made me finally get a PS3. Uncharted and MGS4 already sparked my interest, but KZ2 was the icing on the cake.

I mean the standard ''original'' controller for the PS1 (without analogue), was not suited for FPS's.

I don't really get how Resistance 2 and and Killzone 2 aren't what fans want, but LBP, Uncharted, Demon's Souls, FFXIII, GoW, etc are.

If you ask me, the PS3 always had good quality games, it's just they had very few in the first year or so, after the first year or so, the quality really picked, however, I don't know why this topic is here today as Sony has been releasing loads of good games since before 2008.
