it wasn't just launching a year later. the price tag played a roe, and a much bigger one at that I'm sure.
anyways, I can wait
I think this is very smart, it also proves all the rumurs we have heard are mostly bs. That Sony wont let MS go first and that the hardware is pretty much finalized. Lots of things can be added in the last year , and Sony should be fine as long as it doesnt give it a full Year head start.

In all honesty not to many would debate the PS3 is indeed more powerful then the 360, was it vastly? No of course not they are extmely close but you have to look at two things that probalby wont happen this time around. One Sony most likely wont go with a radically diffrent architecture which is the main reason devs had problems. And two Sony never meant to release the PS3 a full year after the 360 it was delayed twice upon its final release because they could not manufacture enough Cell processors or Blu-ray components.
They also had nowhere near the failure rate of the 360's either.

i Think SONy should get the jump on MS this time and return to there earlier ethos, the Ps1 and Ps2 where nowhere near the most powerful consoles on the Market but they had the games an ethos MS copied this generation, it's not about the cosole, it's about the games, people moan about the 360 having no exclusives But MS where Smart, they secured Various PC games that everyone wanted to play for the 360 games like minecraft, left4dead,torchlight, Metro and the witcher 2, add to that they secured games that where traditionally SONy franchises like Ace combat, ridge racer, Tekken, DMc, final fantasy and a few others, that really hurt the Playstation Brand, they focused too much on the harware and let those games slip away, they should go back to focusing on games because MS laid the hurt on SONY last gen and SONY cannot afford to allow them to gain the initiative this time, they are up against a company that is in a far better financial position to support there next console.Sony will "let" MS go first?
More like "We know we can't compete because we are Japanese and thus useless so we let the beast that is MS win."

I havent forgotten what Nintendo has done the past 4 years in a row , now thats humiliating.

Youre no better than these "rabid cows". Nothing worse than a fanboy that tries to act neutral lmao. You prefer 360 just like the "rabid cows" prefer PS3. I guess only PS fans are fanboys, amiright? Gtfo
This is smart, Sony is waiting for MS to announce a price for their SKU, so that they can price their own console competitively.
I just don't think this guy gets it. The Vita for instance is a GREAT HANDHELD(Alot better then 3ds IMO) but the stupidity of Sony with their overpriced memory cards and stupid pricing plans make it a hard buy. They let a key franchise leave(Monster Hunter) and continue their arrogance. Do I have to mention the non gaming department and how "well" they are doing? Such a shame too. Who knows, maybe they can wow us all and "one up" microsoft but looking at the vita and move, I doubt they will learnfueled-system
To be honest without the overpriced memory cards the system could have been hacked just like th PSP and it wouldnt have mattered if people bought 10x more vitas then they have now , they would have no source of revenue. Now if they hack the Vita they stll have to buy the memory cards, so Sony was basically coming up with a backup up plan incase it got hacked. And move has sold over 15 million and has done nothing but make them profit( although I could care less about it ) .
Its also not Sonys fault htey lost MH blame that on Capcom.

Sooooo have overpriced memory cards to combat pirates? Not really working now is it?Last to market would be terrible for them. This is the last thing Sony need.
Its simple Sony. You don't just copy everybody because they are doing it and "make it better" because that just makes you the "me too" guy. This will sell about as well as Gamecube.
Sounds like Microsoft will be at an advantage as far as sales go if they release before Holiday 2013. That will give Microsoft a string of Holiday sales under their belt, not to mention this will be Nintendo's second Holiday blast. We'll see how this goes.
Zophar87
This is in terms of announcing, not releasing.
He's right, what's the rush? People are expecting PS4 to come out in 2013, it will come out in late 2014, which is the best for them.
The teenagers of System Wars should really look into running Sony because they obviously know better than educated Japanese men in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.Drasonak
I know right, all these kids suddenly have business degrees and run their own companies.

Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?

[QUOTE="redikan"]Being slightly more powerful doesnt cut it anymore. By now we should be able to agree that the PS3 was slightly more powerful than the 360. But Microsoft understood that delivering first was the real goal, not being more poewerful. They got into peoples homes first and became the lead platform and maintained that throughout this cycle. Other than Console exclusives the PS3 gimped itself in the multiplat arena by not being the Lead platform, and therefore to the masses couldnt consistently show its slight technical prowess. I wouldnt take that gamble on holding out so you can manufacture a console that has slightly better specs. Come out first and get publishers using your machine to set the standard for multiplats.ZombieKiller7
Exactly... it's like if you'd get your hands first on XboX, wouldn't almost all your friends also follow you and buy Xbox just so you can all play together online and trade games, and then friends of your friends would also prefer MS for the same reason. It's like a chain reaction... I'm surprised Sony didn't realized that until now (Nintendo did)
What game is that in your sig?
Cyberpunk 2077
there's no reason for sony to repeat the mistakes they made last gen unless they really have no idea what they're doing anymore.

KarateeeChop
the mistake was the price not the launch date. Even if both would have been released at the same time people would have bought the Xbox because it was way cheaper.
Ouch... was not expecting sony to lag behind again. Not good. Unless hes talking about weeks and not months or god forbid, a year. Sony needs to come out this gen as the dynamic company they once were in the industry... not sure this is a good move.TheEroicaPrice point and marketing strategy will decide everything, the Wii is the prime example of being lag behind and can still come out on top.

Ummm, Nintendo Wii?
[QUOTE="j_assassin"]lots of genius businessmen in this thread! sony should just read SW forum and take advise from the posters in here.blue_hazy_basicYup, I mean Sony got everything spot on this gen. Thats why their shares are booming, they've great cash flow and the PS3 dominated the market like the PS2. You don't have to be a CEO to notice something is wrong, the clever part is knowing what to do to fix it. Yes, yes! You should definitely works for sony, im sure it will "boom" and profit straight away!
Eh i don't get this? Its not like you can knock out something in 6 months after you discover what your competitors are doing :?[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"][quote="Kazuo Hirai"]

Wasdie
Well it depends. They could have multiple hardware configurations in development, and depending on what their competitors do, they could select one for final production. It's not like they need to start from scratch. They could decide to up the amount of ram or a clockspeed of something to increase power over their competition.
Really it's going to come down to non-hardware features like the operating system that is going to really separate these consoles. They sound like they'll be almost identical in terms of hardware.
I find it interesting that choosing a gaming console used to be about the game library. Now it's about social services. That it plays multiplat games is apparently enough. Where the 360 and PS3 were already far less important than previous consoles, their successors aim to become wholly obsolete? I don't understand their business philosophy. I suppose it is something like: sell services instead of games, because services are more reliable revenue. I dunno.Kaz: "We cannot let them copy us, we will copy them instead" It's all strategy, friends :).rjdofu
and bombing publishers with money for more exclusives games
Let them go first as in see what MS has so Sony can copy it.BPoole96And Sony ends up copying the tablet controller from the completely innovative and original Microsoft (who invented camera-based motion controls and avatars too BTW).
