There will be a price cut this year mark my wordsTX360
dido... plus, if some second rank website called Sony over the phone and asked them... does the answer you get really qualify as an official statement???
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I use to think a price drop wasn't necessary, though I think it would be great timing. The PS3 has been pumping out good games that sell well and they should keep up that momentum with a price cut. Maybe by june or so. munu9
if sony is smart they will do what MS did.
Drop it in August or september. So when the price drop wears, itll pick right back up with a holiday boost.
I still am deeply impressed with how MS handled the 360 in the second half of 2008.
the price is fine. Some of you need to get your lazy asses up and work , either that or stop complaining Sonic_on_crack
Price does matter- So I wouldn't expect too many sales of the PS3 at that price point compared to its comparable competition.
Could be something else though, considering Sony believes that the Xbox360 costs more.
you know what this means......... PRICE CUT IS ON THE WAY!!!!!!Are they simply confident in their console or can they just not afford a price cut? (Pun intended)
Edit: Of course, they could also just be lying-- they ARE winning over people with recent releases such as Yakuza 3 and Killzone 2.

why not boost sales numbers now instead of later? once the ps3 falls into the same price range as a 360 pro then watch the sales numbers skyrocket regardless of when it is.[QUOTE="Keep-the-Faith"][QUOTE="munu9"]I use to think a price drop wasn't necessary, though I think it would be great timing. And you know what else is annoying besides lems making those "PS3 has no games" threads? Those "PS3 is third place in sales" threads. *cough*Well thats great news. Anything to keep the cows from making "360 is doomed threads" god those were annoying.

The whole price cut rumor started with Michael Prachter, hope he takes the blame for this whole mess. And I don't think people would realize that a rumor of a price cut could be the real thing pulling back PS3 sales at the moment, considering most prospective buyers right now might be just waiting for it to come, thats why they're holding back. Maybe a price cut will come at the end of the year, but not for now, or anywhere in the next 5 months or so.
Guys you dont understand that sony never cares about the PS3 as a console now they just used it to win the format war against the HD-DVD and to show the world how good is the blu-ray of course they will do that cuz it profit them many times more than the PS3 winning the consoles war and now when they already know they won the format war they are trying to produce good games in order to keep the Playstation brand in a better position for the next generation dont think the PS3 was even made to beat other consoles with its very high price after all not many people will buy 600$ at launch or 400$ for a console.
then cows will make "360 has no AAAAE" and "PSN is better than live" and the cycle will go back and forth....no end to the madness :P btw PC>consoles :P[QUOTE="PCgamer687"][QUOTE="Keep-the-Faith"]
we dont make those anymore.....now its "PS3 has less A-AAA". An equally good argument.
Keep-the-Faith
we can just say "its one game.....get some variety allready!!!" and "PSN is not better then LIVE just because its free. Far from it".
PC > consoles yes, but that just doesnt concern the lemmings.
wow, fanboyism to the max![QUOTE="n00bkid"]
Of course they wouldn't say anything about a price cut...they still want people to buy PS3 now instead of waiting for one

^ i like this....but frankly, i dont care, i already have one!
same a price cut doesnt change the amount of money I had to spend so I could care less
[QUOTE="Alpha-Male22"]Honestly, i dont blame them, even if they arent selling as much as they would like, they are STILL selling. And now, with the reduction of production costs, they are only losing $50 a unit, if they drop the price, they effectively TRIPLE their losses!! I think they new people in charge know what they are doing, as much as we would like to see one, business sense says no, stock prices are low enough now, if they announce a price cut, it will sound and look good on the surface, but sony will pay the price shortly after because investors will sell stock, companies will start to question them, and it snowballs from there. They are stuck right now, but its better for them as a whole to REMAIN there until they can become profitable, looks like it may be late 3-4th quarter before that happens, but thats what they need to do. the ps3 is already profitable. as of january 12th, they were making 35 dollars for every 80gb. 160 is only making them something like 5 cents though lol. their cash really comes from games and the store. anybody got a stat on the profits from the store? i'm betting it's a TON, what with all the new games they're popping out. (lumines, flower, etc.)Are they simply confident in their console or can they just not afford a price cut? (Pun intended)

the price is fine. Some of you need to get your lazy asses up and work , either that or stop complaining Sonic_on_crackI agree 100% with you!!! It burns me up when I keep reading ppl complaining about the PS 3 price. The system is worth every penny. If some people actually took the time to play the system and the exclusive games and use all the features they would realize that. But fanboys will always hate something they cant have. I love my PS 3. The system is great.

Im with both of you guys :PI agree 100% with you!!! It burns me up when I keep reading ppl complaining about the PS 3 price. The system is worth every penny. If some people actually took the time to play the system and the exclusive games and use all the features they would realize that. But fanboys will always hate something they cant have. I love my PS 3. The system is great. Thinking the PS3 is too expensive has nothing to do with being a fanboy (not saying fanboys don't use that excuse though) You say play the exclusive games and use all the features and you'll see that it's worth it. What if part of the reason is that most of the exclusives are not the kind of games you want? Resistance, Uncharted, Killzone, MGS4, Motorstorm, you could drop those on my doorstep free and I probably still wouldn't play them (Actually not true, as I'll try any game, but I certainly am not paying $40-$60 for them) As far as features go, it's kind of the same thing, it's nice that the PS3 offers so many things, but if you don't have an interest in using them it's not really a positive. I don't rally see myself using my PS3 to store my pictures/music. Nor do I particularly care about downloading videos. Some people still buy consoles for the explicite purpose of playing games. The simple truth is that both the Wii and 360 accomplish this for a cheaper price. Whether or not you perfer the PS3, 360 or Wii games is a matter of personal preference.[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"]the price is fine. I second that. I think the price is fine too. You get a Game system ($200), Blu-Ray player ($200). How many 360 onwers have the Elite?

Nah, 400 dollars for a gaiming console is too much. Laziness or work has nothing to do with it. Just because you can afford it, doesn't mean its worth the price. Complaining seems like the best alternative.
So I guess the Elite is/was to much? But yet the 360 users want the elite:roll:

I'm right with you. Just cause other people can't afford it that's not my problem. It is well worth the price. Just get a job and save up, quit crying. Personally I think that if you have the money to get a 360, you have the money to get a ps3, its not much more. And at te end of the day saving up a little longer is no problem. I got my ps3 by getting my self a part time job. And I think its completely worth it...[QUOTE="coltsfan4ever"]I agree 100% with you!!! It's not like it's just 16 year old kids that feel the PS3 is too expensive. The gaming and nongaming media have reported often on the effect the price has had. Also, there are plenty of adults with probably good paying jobs that on this site (myself included) that feel the PS3 is still comparatively too expensive. I own all three systems, but honestly when I sit and think that I've spent $1000 over the past 2 years on game systems alone it feels kind of silly. I don't mind because I like to own all systems so I get the most choices out of my gaming, but it's still a lot of money.Considering the price of blue ray players going down, doesn't Sony have to cut the price or risk everyone buying a standalone blue ray player?
The PlayStation 3 is still €82 cheaper in the UK than in the rest of the EU so I suggest that EU citizens outside the UK buy one from the UK.

Agreed. I'm not lazy, it's just my money has to go to other things like books, food, transportation, etc. As much as I'd like to just drop 400 bucks on a playstation, I don't feel like going 2 weeks without food.

Its not just a blu-ray player, its a game system. The PS3 has nothing to do with standalone players.
No one really knows cept the people at Sony. Any company will decline any future cost reduction announcement. PS3 will go down in price, its just the way it works, we just don't know when. MS started this rumor to prevent a bunch of you from going and buying a PS3 for Killzone 2. link
By the way the PS3 is worth the money from a value comparison.
