[QUOTE="moose_knuckler"]It started at $40 so everything's good ;) /s. On topic, saw that and was originally shocked to see that. Very nice for Sony to see

It was also only a demo compared to a full GT game, not other racing games.
it was pretty much a demo compared to any racing game
Witch racing game apart from GT and Forza have 70+ licensed cars with evrey inch detailed to the max? It was like Need for Speed: Shift with only 6 tracks for 40$.[QUOTE="88mphSlayer"][QUOTE="Pug-Nasty"]

buggy physics, glitches, bad race programming (since the AI is almost nonexistent), an overall lack of content (whole game can be beaten in a day), lack of features, etc.
sorry but when i bought GT5p i felt duped, should've bought Burnout Paradise back in 2008

Buggy physics? Glitches? But yea i agree the AI is brain dead...[QUOTE="YuriSH"][QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]GT5 development cost so far is 60 mil, so it's very possible that it did happen and not only that but prices usually are different in US, EU, and JP. Yep, exactly. :) 5 Million x $30 = A lot of money. Not to mention that different exchange rates and stuff. So yea... I can see this being as true. Guess we won't know 100% though. but they don't get all of that $30 they would see maybe $15 per copy after the retailer takes its sharesorry but I dont belive it one bit.
5-6 years of development so far? no I dont believe that 5 million in sales at what was it? 30 dollars a pop I dont believe it covered the development cost, and they still have yet to release it.

[QUOTE="bobcheeseball"]were you forced to buy it to play online? so your not denying that sony is greedy your just says MS is tooSony sold a demo for $40?
...And Cows claim MS is the greediest company?

[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]I believe it, these companies bleat on this gen about how they aren't making enough but the truth is they are just greedy (or more accuratly the company which now owns them is greedy). This is just further proof of how we are being ripped off with game prices.sorry but I dont belive it one bit.

How are we being ripped off with game prices? I remember buying NES games for $50, and that was more than 20 years ago.
[QUOTE="Mario1331"]Sell less than the Prologue? That's going to be a first in the series, lets see if that happens.yea great for sony although i doubt GT5 sells more then 3 mllion copies

yea i believe so i just dont see it cracking 5-6 million maybe 3-4 but idk lol its just a feeling i get

If you felt duped, that's your fault. It's not like PD ever said that Prologue was the full game at a discount. There's a reason it wasn't full priced.
Fact is, there was never any lies told about the product, if you weren't happy with it that sucks, but it's really just your fault.
And haven't they been releasing these prologues in Japan for a while now? It's a fund raiser for an otherwise unrealistic dev time on making the final product the best it can be.
Maybe if you get your hands on GT5 and are blown away, you can stop feeling duped because you contributed to that.

A feeling? Not very convincing. Many of the people who were willing to pay the money for the demo a few years back will buy GT5, and then there's a combination of people who didn't buy the demo because they rather wait for the full game and a variety of others who will buy the game for a variety of reasons.but they don't get all of that $30 they would see maybe $15 per copy after the retailer takes its share[QUOTE="Vinegar_Strokes"][QUOTE="mgs_freak91"] Yep, exactly. :) 5 Million x $30 = A lot of money. heh... so you never been to an electronic store, or visited any online retailer that sells videogames (amazon.com for example)?
also, since this is about profit... dont forget that it was bundled with the ps3, meaning they were given away for free, but the 'sale' still counts

It was sold at retail. I bought the d/l version. Then I went to Iraq and couldn't play it so I bought the disc version. Sucks that the game saves aren't compatible with each other.

Maybe I just never came across it. If I remember correctly, then I didn't buy the greatest amount of games that year. That and I probably haven't looked for it either.Still how do we know how many were sold over any of these situaions anyways?

That's true, but I don't see anyone breaking down Halo 3's sales that way.
TC just going to get the game because of hype. then he will realise how boring it is and never talk about the game agian

well yeah, sales is one thing, profit is another... we're talking about the latter here, where actual sales are counted to determine profit

Thought this should be an intresting topic for SW, GTP5 is officially closing to 5 Million units sold and the actual GT5 isnt even out yet. because of this huge success on the Demo alone GT5 is already a big success which could mean that both Sony and PD probably got their investment and the costs they spent back already from the demo alone!
The Offical GT Numbers
GT5 is already a sucess
Thoughts? GT5 to be the first racing game i buy and the first GT game i ever play :D
finalstar2007
So it's reasonable when Sony milk their userbase? Ridiculous bias. I wonder if you'd apply the same logic to a 360/wii/pc exclusive.

I'm with this guy!!
So... GT5P is $40... It sold around 5,000,000... $40 and then it dropped to $30 so lets just say $35 x 5,000,000 sales = $175,000,000... GT5 is only $60,000,000 according to someone in this thread...LOL people paying full price for a demo!Funconsole
Didn't lems pay $60 for an expansion pack? :P
I kid though.

and another thing. GT5P is still a full featured game, just bite sized compared to GT5.

As a first party game, Sony likely saw about 50% of the retail price for brick-and-mortar store sales, and ~85% of the price from digital download sales (based on a break down of the price of a retail game that OnLive produced).
A reasonably conservative estimate at let's say 3 million copies for $15 per retail sale and 1 million for $25 per digital sale, would put the game's gross at $70 million.
If it hasn't covered GT5's development budget then it's at least covered most of it.
