IMO, Sony needs to abandon the PSP and concentrate solely on PS3 instead. PSP lost it's chance to make it big against DS. Why waste resources making PSP versions of Resistance, Killzone, LBP and Gran Turismo when they can invest that time and money into PS3 games instead. Also MGS Peace Walker should have been made for the bigger consoles. It is the next big installment of the series anyway, how can it be taken seriously being a handheld game?

I agree 100%, but none of their best studios make PSP games apart from the Syphon Filter team so I guess they're not really wasting their main resources on it. That said I'm still furious that Kojima is wasting his time with PW.

Disagree. PSP is doing fine against the DS. Especially considering it's Sonys first try at a handheld. PSP is doing well. And what about people who own PSP? Sony has always been great at supporting their systems I'd hate to see them change that. Last I'll disagree because PS3 doesn't need more, as it is the games are coming out way faster than I can afford them :)

No.

Sony needs to find a way to make the PSP popular again. The Go was a good start but the execution was flawed.

imo, Sony needs to concentrate on the PSP in a different way than Nintendo do with the DS. They know what the PSP can do and how it's different, then why not have one of their divisions making "PSP specific" games? Also the PSP makes profit for Sony unlike the PS3 so stopping that will be a nono.

Sony, release a 150$ PSP Go with the older UMD games you own being transferable for free or release a PSP 2Go.:P

It would've been expensive? Yes.

Would've taken longer to make? Yes.

Would've been worth it? Absolutely!:P

Sony shouldn't abandon the PSP, it has alot of potential but Sony squandered alot of it trying to make the PSP a PS2 portable. There is plenty of room for improvement and if Sony does some minor tweaking and avoid what they did with the Go and they can really take the PSP far. I'd love to see Sony continue on the PSP line and give Nintendo the only competition they've ever really had. I'm still a DS man and will be picking up the 3DS on launch day, but Sony can sway me this time around to pick up a PSP2.

PSP needs to be more like the iphone, where you can download small addictive games for $1.

It NEEDS those creative games as well, since most of its library are portable versions of PSOne, PS2, and PS3 games.

I don't care if Sony stops making games for it, but if you want Sony to stop manufacturing PSP's than I completely disagree.

The PSP has the best library out of every system (not including PC) this generation.

It's still selling very well. I'm mad about Peace Walker aswell but PSP has tons of great games. I just think Sony should lower the price on memory sticks and I'm pretty sure the core system has been sitting at the $170 price point for 2-3 years why not drop the price on it by like $20 aswell.

The core system now is the PSP 3000, so the price tag on it is pretty reasonable. If you shop online you can find one a lot cheaper than $170.

Shelving something because "it isn't as succesful as the competition" is poor business tactics if they can still turn a profit from it. Now the PSP Go on the other hand.

The PSP actually has some fantastic games. Sony has done a great job on the PSP considering it was their first attempt at a handheld. It is obvious that all of the top publishers agree that it is a quality device as the PSP has been getting more and more excellent games each year.

for them to abandon the PSP would mean they admitted they lost.... Which is ridiculous since the PSP is a great success. I say, even though i'm not a fan of the system, just let it run it's course. The PSP is a great system.

Probably because they're still making money off of it. Contrary to popular notions on this board the PSP didn't exactly sell terribly.

How will it exactly make the ps3 better by taking out the psp? The psp is selling, bringing profit so the logic behind your topic is untrue.

What's next? "Nintendo needs to abandon the DS and concentrate solely on WII instead"?

PSP was only insanely popular, from what I've seen, word of mouth, etc, for only the first couple of months to a year of release. Then, it was hyped to top the ... i-pod, really. DS was looked down at because of its low specs but we all know who won the overall battle of the handhelds. Idk, it just seems SONY does not know how to do portable gaming right. Most of the PSP games were stuff many weren't interested in, so sit and play for a short burst, while on the go. Then you had the terrible battery life and all the extra crap like movies on the UMD and etc which didnt really matter because of the poor battery life. For the next PSP, Sony needs to design it to have a long battery life and the games need to be suitable for portable gaming. Also to not price the unit over 200 dollars..

The trouble is that the PSP is only a crappy system outside of Asia. Maybe Sony should vocally encourage developers to localise their games in America and Europe.

This idea is pretty common with my group of friends and associates. In my educated opinion, the PSP has not made any impact in the market especially when you compare it to the giant, the DS. This is made more apparent by a fast growing new handheld, the iPhone. The iPhone has already taken away market share from the PSP and just like the PS3 with console market share, the PSP is now last place. I sold my PSP many moons ago and every time I turn on my PS3 and browse the PSN Store, I am bombarding with annoying PSP offers, games and tidbits I am not interested in one bit. I strongly agree that Sony should discontinue this thing called the Playstation Portable. But I truly believe even if they discontinue the PSP, it will not benefit the PS3 at all one bit. Sony NEEDS the PSP and PS2 to keep afloat.
