Come up with entirely new portable system and new ideas, because what they are doing isn't working.

I really like the psp, it has great games but i want them to just make the next psp, a psp2 with cheaper games and hard to hack
I think it tries too hard to be a console. Something it isn't.I really dont understand why PSP is not more successful, its great system with great games but something does not really appeal the people.

They wouldn't, they've established a brand name already.siLVURcross
This. And the PSP is a good system, which has sold tens of millions of units. It's still being supported, as evidenced by the great titles that will be released this year. No need to give up on it yet.
[QUOTE="benbeckman"]i actually think it will be impossible for them hi-tech wont work, ds competitior wont work, phone wont workbphan
If they keep doing what they are doing. Nintendo and Apple are gonna continue to eat their marketshare.
yeah but they're 5 billion down and they've got no chance to stand against apple/nintendo they're in no position to launch a new systemm. let them take it easy for a bit and try and get some money back, if only a littleBesides they started new ad campain
And also i would not be suppriced if next PSP will be 3D also, 3DS is not first device that use "3D without glasses" too, but in gaming, yes. Also PSP can still compite with 3DS imo, but all depends on developers.
Sony is doing the right thing with the PSP by starting a new ad campaign and putting high-quality exclusives on the system in the coming months. There is no point in them rushing another handheld to the market and if they kill off the PSP now, they leave a huge gap in the market that only serves to push them further behind Nintendo.
It not even like the PSP is a massive failure that is bleeding Sony dry as it loses money. It has done very well in Japan where is sometimes outsells the DS, and in other regions it has sold respectfully. As of March 31st 2010, the PSP has sold 66.7 million units worldwide, a huge success for a handheld that's not bareing the Nintendo name.
I will say that Sony should go a step further and lower the price of the PSP to about 129.99 dollars and entice holdouts that may want a PSP but are hesitant to pick one up at its current price. I also agree with them ditching the PSP Go. At this point, Sony needs to focus on the PSP-3000 and ensure a steady stream of quality games keep coming for the system in the coming years.
The psp is barely able to compete with the ds outside of japan. And even there it still is not good. Sony is in a very bad place with the psp. They have to do something because the 3ds has some of the best game series coming to it. And if they do good and play good, my psp is going to be gone.Besides they started new ad campain

Lets see how Step your game up works out for them. Besides they don't need to cancel the PSP its selling well, just not as much as the DS, kind of like how the PS3 and 360 doesn't sell as much as the Wii.FIipMode
no, not really. the ps3 and 360 are both competing with the wii. The psp isn't even close to the ds.

[QUOTE="newown"]Imagine if Sony gonna make a 120hz LCD monitored PSP that comes with a small and light Polarized Glasses that makes PSP a really 3D to make things pop out of screen as well as make a switch to make that screen uses the same 3DS technology to have glassless 3D depth effect. 64GB internal Memories. and blahhhhh :Dsnore.. i also imagine them failing again. They can kill the PSP once the PSP2 comes out but for now the PSP is doing great. I dont get why everyone hates it, its a great solid handheld gaming device, with some pretty good games. Yeah I know everyone hear loves the DS and the DS has all the best games and the PSP has no games. >_> The DS is only good if you like Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon, and I dont like any of those.RTUUMM
Nope, the DS is only good if you want to play alot of high quality games.

IMO, the PSP has alot higher quality games than the DS. DS has no GOW, MGS or PSP version of PS3 exclusives. Until the 3DS comes out, the DS = Epic fail(i dont care about sales so dont bother mentioning it).[QUOTE="bowser3"][QUOTE="RTUUMM"]They can kill the PSP once the PSP2 comes out but for now the PSP is doing great. I guess the biggest problem is piracy when it comes to the PSP. I'm pretty sure a lot of 3rd party is afraid to not get enough sales. I guess it's time for a PSP 2 and I actually have some ideas :) I'd welcome a PSP2 with extremly more power and maybe even a 3D screen, better online services (like the PS3 kind of ^^), having the ability to use it as a PS3 controller (needs all the buttons the PS3 controller has) with games that have special support for a PSP as controller (like NGC with the GBAs, I loved to play FF:CC with friends) and functions like *backup all PS3 savedata to the PSP* or even better the possibility to sync the PSP with the PS3 by using shared saves which would do wonders for games like ModNation Reacers which released on both systems. Maybe they could give you the possibility to load PS3 games on your PSP (with an 1time-used key to dl it off the store) and you'll be able to powerlevel or whatever when you're on the go. They could give it a touch screen and release programs to have the usual DVD remote functions on it. There's a lot Sony could do ^^

Boy I am glad you got banned. Constant negativity from this guy.
And OP, I agree with you. The PSP is obviously not going to take much more of the market. It will be interesting to what they come up with.

You're right. Those three games are the only high scoring games on the DS.

Or pull out of America/EU. It's too successful in Japan to give up.
The problem with the PSP is, aside from its insane pricing so far into its life cycle, the system itself is touted as a miniature console. The battery life is shorter than the DS, and the majority of games are ports, remakes, or just blatantly not crafted for the handheld market. Handheld games need to be built with the "on the go" mentality in mind... which means being able to play for short bursts without having to end your game prematurely because there's no save point or whatever. At least with the DS, even if the game you're playing isn't built with that in mind, all you have to do is snap it closed, and the insanely long battery life will keep your game safe in sleep mode for hours.Greyfeld
Here's what I dont understand: If you can't play game for more than 15 minutes at a time, why do you need a 10 hour battery life? PSP games are cricitized for being too "portable unfriendly," but on the same note it's criticized for having too short of a battery life (which in my experience, lasts at least 6 hours). So which is it? Can't play a game for 10 minutes or need to play it for 3 hours straight?
The PSP has a sleep function that lasts quite a while, btw.

It seems like a non-existant problem that people like to think exists.
You can name countless dozens, if not hundreds of games out on portables right now that can consume hundreds of hours of your time.
It's the fault of a dev for not developing them with great features fit for a handheld, not them developing a console game on a handheld.
Think about it. Monster Hunter and Pokemon. Their success lies in the multiplayer. The trading, battling, hunting, etc. If they were just single player games I can't imagine they'd be as popular as they are today.
An example of a bad handheld game I'd say would be like God of War because it really just is a 6 hour game. It's not as good as console God of War games, there's limitations in the hardware and stuff so it's not as pretty, and exciting, and it truly is just a dumbed-down console game.
Mario Kart, on the other hand, was a smash hit on the DS compared to previous Mario Karts. It actually incorporated the features of the handheld to be the first Mario Kart game to actually have online functionality. I also spent hours on Super Mario 64's multiplayer because it wasn't just a console port! There were actually games to play with friends who had that game!
I mean it's really not so much making a console game on the handhelds, but utilizing the handhelds features, and the platform to enhance the experience. It's like how the PC market is radically different from the console market because there are certain things that PC gamers have grown accustomed to. So, too, have handheld gamers grown to be accustomed to that sort of "lifestyle" of the platform. You expect different things in each corner of the gaming industry.

Or pull out of America/EU. It's too successful in Japan to give up.
Pulling out of any region would look bad on their part. Remember Sony dropped the price of the PS3 when they were already taking substantial losses on it. They did so to minimize the damage done to the PlayStation brand.
Its a great system. they just need to lower the price of the games. Get out more mins, and Downloadable games. Lower the royaltiy price and add a way like steam that people need to cheek in once in a while to PSN to work (say once every 2 weeks to run a system cheek and download some system update)
This can be done so many places now that it will be funny to hear pirets excuse. OH.... I cant find a place to conect to PSN.... (try the library, starbucks, MC Donalds, tooo many places to list most)

And what if you're taking a vacation in the woods? Or living in a small town, or even in a country that doesn't have such amenities readily available?

It might look bad, but the damage of pulling out of Japan would probably be worse. But I don't think Sony will pull the PSP, nor should they. The PSP go on the other hand, might go.

no, not really. the ps3 and 360 are both competing with the wii. The psp isn't even close to the ds.
Actually... the PSP sold like..60 million or something like that right? The DS has sold around a bit more than the double of that, like 120 - 140 million right? The PS3 is at about 35 million, while the Xbox 360 is close to 41 million... by now, the Wii should be nearing the 80 million mark,.. so it's almost the double of what the Xbox 360 has sold.. only if you combine both the PS3 and Xbox 360 do they compete with the Wii... So if you think about it, it's kinda of the same thing.. Nintendo sells ( more or less) the double of it's competitors this gen in both fronts..ah, my mistake then. For some reason i was thinking the console race was alot closer than that. I guess it just seems that way judging from people i know who own the systems. I know tons of people with 360s and PS3s, but only one person i know owned a psp, and he sold it.
hahah you dont understand maybe this will
game gear vs game boy
game gear
4.3 inch color lcd tft
32 bit graphics
about 1-3 hours on batterys
400 price tag at launch
game boy
black and white 8 bit
about 5-12 hours on aas
169,99 i think when it first came out
killer line up
,,
fast forward 2004
ds
149,99
battery w backlight on -5-9 hours
launch game that defined it-super mario 64 games are on 1gb card

and 14 hrs music -in line with dslite on its lowest setting on gameplay
price was 249,99 at launch droped to 199,99 later on and again psp go back up to 249,99
and had twisted metal and ridge racer ,, for launch not much else later in life a few mgs gta games this doesnt last for long
so to sum it up
ds cost less
ds last longer
and ds has better library overall
and is for everybody plus it plays all gba games except dsi which replaces that with original dsi ware games not bad
thats instant win you dont just go for power im sorry
you wait you get more battery life first and release it at a affordable price for hadnheld standard not the price of a home console released later on -249,99 was the launch price for a nintendo wii a much powerful console compare to psp
why would you pay the same price for a handheld
and
nope it wont happen
psp 2 will do the same thing psp tried to do
go for ps3 graphics
same battery life as psp
300 -400 at launch quote me when they do announce one i dare ya
cause the 3ds gets roughly the same battery life as the nintendo dsi -thats a long bloody time for graphics its getting ,
