I just got FC4, want to play tonight on PSN?

Here, let me talk to my Lawyer.

He highly advises against it at this juncture.

I've already played 5+ hours of rock solid online with PSN+, thanks to SONY, current gen 8 console leader. We should play, it's a real hoot.

You know I don't play multi on a network protected by piss ants.

The NSA in my house is good enough.. Don't need N. Korea lurking around.

I would ask to play MCC, but ya know, that shit is still broke. :(

Back to podcast then Diablo 3 on rock solid PSN+.

How could this have anything to do with PSN... Sony Pictures and PSN aren't even owned by the same company. PSN has a way better network than the non-Sony related Picture side of Sony. Different people run those networks... Considering they're different companies. /right?

Not directly comparable. There's a good amount of evidence that this hack was backed by the government of a foreign power, which places it in a different league than previous hacks [if true].

No matter. All it does is show their weakness to protect Data. If they can't protect their own employees data.

Can they protect ours?

The distinction does matter. A hack coordinated by a foreign government like North Korea is nearly impossible to counter, at least as far as private-sector entities go. Accusing Sony's networks of being weak because of this is completely unfair, like making fun of Ford cars for being delicate because they can't survive being shot by a tank. Sony's network may very well be horribly weak and underprotected, but if this actually was a state-sponsored cyberattack then it really, really isn't fair to lay the blame on Sony's end.

It's never fair to lay blame on the victim. Even if they were publishing a movie about a leader of a country being assassinated.

What did they do wrong? They didn't deserve this.

EDIT: That is still alive mind you.

Damn you Korea!

Still you have to ask yourself... Who the **** ok'd a Picture to be made about the assassination of a Volatile leader that is declaring threats at even the fish off the coast of North Korea.

sony pictures isnt sony gaming so dont know what this has to do with system wars and yes it does matter who hacked it, its a government backed hack, even places like m15 get hacked by governments. and you wont have be worry about ur psn account being hacked considering u dont even have one. now pipe down

The fact that they are using PSN servers to assist in the distribution of said stolen data kinda points to the fact that they have their hands inside the PSN servers as well, doesn't it?

Maybe @Heil68 should comment on this.

"I buy all my multi-plats on PS4" signed I'mSmart

You should prepare yourselves for the possibility of PSN going down. It's the entire server cluster bank used for all SOE divisions. Where do I sign up! Need a DNA sample to share Sony. I'm game. Terabits of information leaked and being uploaded around the net.

Nah this is BS for the users... Sony sucks at online.... /smh

Sony memo to employees.

It is now apparent that a large amount of confidential Sony Pictures Entertainment data has been stolen by the cyber attackers, including personnel information and business documents. This is the result of a brazen attack on our company, our employees and our business partners. This theft of Sony materials and the release of employee and other information are malicious criminal acts, and we are working closely with law enforcement.

The privacy and security of our employees are of real concern to us, and we are deeply saddened at this concerted effort to do damage to our company, undermine our morale, and discourage us. We are enormously proud of the resilience you have all shown in the face of this attack. The company is as busy as ever, and our business continues to move forward, thanks to your great efforts.

While we are not yet sure of the full scope of information that the attackers have or might release, we unfortunately have to ask you to assume that information about you in the possession of the company might be in their possession. While we would hope that common decency might prevent disclosure, we of course cannot assume that.

"I don't know wtf is going on" removing his finger from his ass said one Sony network specialist. /s

Yesterday, we told you that we are offering all employees identity protection services with a third-party service provider, All Clear ID, and that you would receive an email tomorrow outlining steps to sign up. If you sign up, the AllClear ID investigators would be available to answer your questions about how to handle disclosures of your confidential information.

We can’t overemphasize our appreciation to all of you for your extraordinary hard work, commitment and resolve.

this doesnt really have anything to do with PSN directly though. but still....this is bad for Sony. especially with them already being in a fragile financial state right now. this is real bad. from the article:

"Sony Pictures is dealing with more than downed computers and frozen email. Movies have been leaked, and internal documents have exposed private company memos, along with employees' salaries, Social Security numbers and health information.

One security researcher, Adrian Sanabria, calls it "Sony-pocalypse."

-------

This hack could prove extremely costly to Sony.

Leaked movies. Every stolen copy of a movie is potentially a movie ticket lost. "Fury," the World War II drama starring Brad Pitt, has been downloaded illegally 2.3 million times, according to tracking firm Excipio.

------

Embarrassing memos. The hack has also produced some embarrassing internal communications, including memos that show Sony employees are fed up with the boring, unimaginative movies Sony keeps putting out. Among the criticisms: Sony has failed to deliver on its Spiderman franchise. As one employee put it: "We continue to be saddled with the mundane, formulaic Adam Sandler films."

Unequal salaries. The world now knows what Sony employees make. The news organization Fusion spotted a major pay gap that runs on gender and race lines. There are 17 people at Sony Pictures who make more than $1 million a year. Only one is black. Only one is a woman.

Personal information. And to top it all off, hackers have exposed enough personal data that 3,800 employees must now be on guard for identity theft.

All of this is getting posted publicly in huge batches of computer files on sites like Pastebin.com and illegal file-sharing websites. Security researcher Dan Tentler has found that the files are being shared using computer servers owned by Sony's PlayStation Network -- adding insult to injury.

this will cost them even more money. money they don't even have. i doubt Sony can last much longer after this....

who could possibly keep a technological powerhouse like north korea out of their servers.

lulz.

if you can't keep north Korea out you ain't keeping no one out.

It's amazing the Glaring differences between north and south, the South is a technological powerhouse, the North is about 10 years behind everyone else.

SONY seriously needs to beef up there security.

As for all the Cows saying, SONY pictures Derp, what makes you think there security for Playstation is any better?

Playstation IS how they got into Sony Pictures actually. which makes this even more hilarious that cows are trying to discredit this thread as not system system wars material. from the article:

Security researcher Dan Tentler has found that the files are being shared using computer servers owned by Sony's PlayStation Network -- adding insult to injury.

Lol, you believe that? That's just a theory... Why would you tell it as if this is a true story. Sure the hackers were from North Korea, but that it has anything to do with the movie is a big leap.

why would north korea put a malware in sony pictures' servers? I don't get it....

Although it's not the hackers that might be korean but that the malware they used to hack into the servers it's a very sophisticated korean program according to the FBI. They believe it got spread by some idiot clicking on an executable from an email or something.

Right because PSN is down and Sony is offering free games right now as compensation for the attack....oh wait....nope I can still access it fine and dandy.

Sony Hack Reportedly Includes 47,000 Social Security Numbers, Celebrity Data

As fallout from the cyber attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment continues to grow, it now appears that the leaked files include the Social Security numbers of more than 47,000 current and former employees, including celebrities like Sylvester Stallone, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. Other names with personal information that's shown up in the files include director Judd Apatow and actress Rebel Wilson.

The Journal said that the data-security firm Identity Finder LLC analyzed 33,000 of the SPE documents and found personal information, salaries and home addresses for individuals who worked at Sony Pictures from as far back as 2000.

A group calling itself Guardians of Peace has taken credit for the cyberattack, which first hit the studio on Nov. 24.

Good job cow and completely missing the point.

I find it funny how cows are always talking about how Sony is doing fine and specifically mentioning Sony Pictures and the revenue it brings but when something like this hack happens.."it's not the same Sony". All of Sony's networks are connected together at some point down the line. If they can hack Sony Pictures, you better believe they can hack the PSN network.....again.

I know this gen has been absolutely brutal on the few XBoys left around here, but do try and stay on the topic of the forum. If Sony pictures getting hacked has your panties in a bunch, Off Topic is the place to squeal about it.

Sony Pictures IS Sony and Sony OWNS both Sony Entertainment as well as Sony Pictures. They're the same company different divisions. The networks are connected and the article even mentions using the PSN network.

Yes, I actually am worried since I do have a PS4 WITH my information. I think everything should at least be worried a little.

Sony network = Sony network

You act like they have the funds to have 20 different sever clusters, and network teams for every division.

Why do you think that.. and proof of this claim would be amazing.

Who was it who made a big deal about a MS office getting burgled and hacked and claiming that it compromised XBL? lol

Given enough time, effort and money there aren't many things that are secure anymore sadly.

The hackers were hosting the files off of PSN. Wouldn't they have to be in PSN to host said files?

Were they just piggy backing off of PSN? Either way they had access to the PSN servers somehow.

There is actual proof in this case.
