Sony on track to sell 15 mln PS3s in 2010

Depends completely on the success of 3D and whether or not sony can advertise. They should be advertising, in terms of games, Sony has one heck of a line up. Diviniuz

Anyway, to put 15 million in year/year context people should look at Sony's previous performance chart [link]. Sony shipped 5.9 million PS3s between April-September 2010, which means they must think they're on-track to shipping 9.1 million units between October-March, 2011.

For reference - between October 2009-March 2010, last year, Sony shipped 8.7 million unit PS3s.

So Sony is basically predicting that they will slightly beat the worldwide numbers they put up last year.

(By comparison, between October 2009-March 2010 the Xbox 360 shipped 6.7 million units last year - [link][link]).

This isn't a surprise.

Sony gave this forcast at the begining of their fiscal year, and they always meet their predictions. Last year they predicted 13 million and they sold about 13.6.

They'll probably end their next fiscal at about 16 million.

I don't care how many Kinects are sold, There really is no stopping the PS3 at this point.

What is the reason for sales cheerleading again? I mean, yeah this is SW, but still, what motivates you people to cheerlead about sales? Do you get some of the money if you break out the pom-poms?

sorry this console is selling like crap in america. i'm sure sony was expecting higher sales, but this console isn't selling as good as they have hoped.

How so? Getting super excited about a line up on SW does not equate to real world sales.

Any informed consumer would get a Ps3. Out of 10 people i know who have a 360, 4 said there partner/parent got it for them, 2 said it was cheaper, 1 said he thought it was sony and the other 3 didnt know ps3 did all of those things it does now.

sony has terrible marketing, they advertise multimedia way too much instead of showing highlights of games.

All of those games are going to help.

Already, as said, the PS3 will sell 15 million units at its fiscal year. The next one after that, probably 17 or 18 million units (a price drop in 2011 will help that)

As is, XBOX 360 has never sold 15 million units in its fiscal year....not ever.

They passed Microsoft in worldwide sales a while ago. But good news is good news regardless. There are soooo many games to look forward to in 2011 it's insane. Little Big Planet 2 kicks things off in 2 weeks. Should be some good stuff for Move owners.

Theres just no excuse for PS2 fans from last gen to not have a PS3 right now. Unless of course they didnt enjoy any of Sonys franchises.
