I recon it was just a research team looking into see how things would plan out if they pressed on with a PS4 right now, they got that info and then thought "Nah screw it, we can do this later!".JohnF111For second I thought you said they would say "Naw screw it, we'll do it live".
They didn't. Anonymous source + google translation is all it takes to pass for a rumor nowadays. What is the point of announcing such a thing ?

Good. We don't need more consoles right now. Besides, I would rather them wait even longer so they can put even better hardware in the thing, not hardware from 2010 when the consoles launches in 2012 kind of like the PS3 having early 2005 hardware in it.

[QUOTE="Sp4rtan_3"]Nothings wrong with that, we all expected the ps3 to last 10 years anyways.omho88yeah but we all expected to see the PS4 before those 10 years ... like what happened with the PS2/PS3. But then again with the ps2 - ps3 transition the market was a very different place. With this economy I expected the ps3 to last 10 maybe 11 years until sony was ready to shove a new box out the door.

so people will not wait for PS4 and buy PS3 now I guess!!
[QUOTE="omho88"]They didn't. Anonymous source + google translation is all it takes to pass for a rumor nowadays. Go to google news and type in ps3. Theres some nice links there from non "anonymous" sourcesWhat is the point of announcing such a thing ?

There is a poorly translated Impress Watch PC interview, where there seems like a lot of editorial content based on unnamed sources.
The economy right now, the fact that psn is operating at a very large loss, the ps3 just becoming profitable like a year and a half ago...Sony cant release a brand new system in this environment...we still have people actually believing that Playstations have 10 year life cycles, theyhave 5-6 year life cycles followed by 5 year life support cycles where Sony continues to produce the system yet realistically ignores it in terms of games like most other developers do.
Face it we won't see a new round of systems any time soon because Sony and Microsoft can't handle the expenses and the industry as a whole cant handle new systems. *shakes head* so many people actually wanting to give Sony a pat on the back for this...when its actually a sign that the game industry is pretty much diseased right now and a new round of systems would be like a hospital refusing to treat because of no insurance.
This is simply a sign of a very worrying underlying problem.
i dont wanna be playing a console with only 512MB of ram 3 yrs from now... that spec is already outdated. Dont get me wrong these consoles have utilized their resources very well so far but they would have done so much better with atleast 1gb
Many of the PS1 and PS2's best games were released in your so-called "support cycles", but anyone can easily see that when they aren't so blindly opposed to Sony.

The disease is the higher development costs of developing games, which have risen exponentially over the years. Any new console with greater graphics will come with greater expectations and requirements from developers - which not all developers can meet.
Nothing wrong with a longer gen. Let the console makers and game publishers make some good profits from things becoming cheaper and easier for them for a while longer. It also gives Sony longer to put together a console that will actually feel like a generational leap from this one, which probably won't be easy.
Just heard Crytek said they were getting "better response" from the PS3 than 360.Now they can be callled neutral guys (unlike some of our friends from sytem wars,LOL .)
So PS3 have definitely more than some life left in it and we can hope to not hear any announcements regarding the PS4 in the next 5 yrs. or so.
And will someone tell me whether all that processing power of the PS3 is used by any game or not?

Seconded.

That's a win for Sony fans, except for the ones with money burning holes in their pockets.Dr_CorndogDepends when the next Xbox comes out, if it was out for 3 years before the next Playstation comes out it's not much of a win.
I do think Sony is going to piss off developers more than M$ because of the tedious Cell architecture that devs had to learn. This cost money and time, none of which will be useful for next generation. lhugheyI agree. The PS3 won't be around as long as a lot of people think because of the way it was designed. When developers have the choice of developing for the next Xbox with Direct X 11 or higher or the tedious Cell format many will skip the PS3. This will force the development of a PS4 quicker than expected.
