To be fair... they never said they were WORKING on it... as in, it was coming. They said they were looking at doing it... hell, who knows, maybe after that they finally figured out that they couldnt actually do it. Either way, Sony never said it was coming, or that they were working on it... they danced around it though. I'm glad they finally came clean.

carljohnson3456

But he is maintaining like sony never said anything about it, which is absolutely false. Obviously they wouldnt know the COULDNT do it if they werent working on it man..........come on!

The unmistakable sight of "Damn even if i delete my post someone quoted it, someone else take the spotlight please."

carljohnson3456

No, more like "i know this guy on this forum, no matter how much evidence is out there, he will continue to ignore it" Clearly Sony has said they were thinking about it, trying, considering, or trying it. Meaning they were working with the idea. You cant spin that anymore

Cross-game voice chat is a feature we know our passionate user base has asked for and we'll continue to look at as a viable offering for the PlayStation Network.

Exactly, first they "Were working on it" then when they were done working on it said "Nope can't do it". Its funny how people take these PR statements as truth when they are specifically designed to not give a 100% solid answer.

That wasn't a confirmation that it was coming though.

The closest to confirmation by Sony was by James Thorpe on the EU PS Blog. It was quickly edited to "I just want to clarify a comment I made to this post yesterday about Cross Game Voice Chat, which seems to have caused some confusion. I can't confirm if or when Cross Game Voice Chat is coming, but as I said, when I do have some information to share with you, I'll let you know."

I have the links and will post them after I figure out the error :P

Edit:

I can't link them so here is the article from CAV:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/227585/ps3-cross-game-chat-coming-says-sony/

and here is the PS Blog post:

Exactly. Downplaying cross game chat as if it's completely irrelevant is silly... but to act like it's the end all be all of social gaming is just as silly.

Good because I will NEVER care about such a useless feature when there are things called cell phones and blue tooth available that are superior anyways.

Bigboi500

It's far from useless. I tend to have a better time when I'm playing a game while taking to friends via party chat. Even when I'm playing my PS3, I usually start a party up on my 360. Not to mention the fact that you can talk to people that live thousands of miles away for you. Yeah, I would rather use my cell phone for that!

I'm not saying it's as good as X game chat but just that people feel there is no alternative, I've got my PC next to my console so it's easy for me, it's more stable and better quality than Live's chat and less prone to dropping out. Plus not all my friends have 360's connected to the internet or don't have Live, i can also chat across platforms with friends on PS3, PC and 360 all chatting if we wanted. I was playing FIFA on my PS3, my friend Reach on his 360 and another on Minecraft the other day. Just more convinient for myself i suppose.

I thought by your statement, "I never believed it was coming anyway, despite what sony and its fanboys said," that you meant Sony promised to add cross game chat :P

There of course is a difference between working on something in hopes of it coming to fruition and actually promising that it will work out and be released.

Think one of my friends uses a phone or an ipod or something, it's not too difficult as you can use any device with skype so generally there's something for someone to use. For me to use Live with the people i'd want i'd have to convince people to get 360's, it's just more useful for the people i play with.

Well no, sony never announced it was coming, nor did they give a release date (obviously lol). But to say they werent TRYING is just silly. To say that it isnt a great feature is also silly. Sony wouldnt waste time and resources working on it if millions of people didnt ask for it. Its a very useful and fun feature to have, and it makes a difference.

TC, I got news for you. Both the PS3 and the 360 are crap(hardware wise and mostly software wise) compared to the PC and the available platforms(Steam, etc). So who cares if they both suck?

Cross game chat would be a nice option but I don't think id use it that much.. when I'm playing a single player game I'm not trying to hold a conversation with somebody.. and if I'm playing an online game id rather talk with my team

Microsoft certainly had more foresight with regard to online gaming and interface features. They developed the universal achievements system and it was in place since day one. Cross game chat, being able to play your own music in any game, including a head set with every console, voice messages (in addition to text messages)....it just seems like Microsoft had a much better vision of where things were going and how to make the experience better for gamers.

I just used my 360 when my friends and I played Demon's Souls. We had both hooked up, but just used the 360 as a party chat device(don't need Xbox Live gold for this as long as you're not in a game or anything) and played Demon's Souls on the PS3. Worked fine with us.

I have an xbox, and I don't don't know what I would do with out cross game chat. My friends and I are almost always playing different games, and we love to get a ton of people and just kick back and chat, sometimes just sitting on the dashboard and watching tv. Cross game chat is the only reason I continue to pay for live. It's a must have my friends and I. The Ps3 is still a great console, but I see no reason why not to implement it.

I've done that using steam, played GT5 with a mate using steam as the chat, the bonus is that Steams chat is free.

LOL, so I'm not the only one who has done that. That is a viable option if you have 360 for sure.

Wait, so you guys were in a PARTY chat 2+ people without gold?

Microsoft certainly had more foresight with regard to online gaming and interface features. They developed the universal achievements system and it was in place since day one. Cross game chat, being able to play your own music in any game, including a head set with every console, voice messages (in addition to text messages)....it just seems like Microsoft had a much better vision of where things were going and how to make the experience better for gamers.

I'd only make two changes inthat it wasn't necessarily a better vision of how things were going but a base and flexibility that allowed them to move with the needs of the market. For example Sony had all these plans of video chat and so on but didn't have the base to build on it well.MS were sat on a formula which while didn't buy them success in their first gen, did their second. The other change would be in music playback, it don't think it's a major sell point and the painfully awkward ways to get the music to play nullifies it for me as it simply becomes easier to just plug in some speakers to a device.

How is it painful to get music to play when you just press the guide button?

[QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"][QUOTE="Grawse"]That sounds hectic. Good luck trying to convince 5 friends to buy laptops or sit at their desk top to do that.

I just used my 360 when my friends and I played Demon's Souls. We had both hooked up, but just used the 360 as a party chat device(don't need Xbox Live gold for this as long as you're not in a game or anything) and played Demon's Souls on the PS3. Worked fine with us.

LOL, so I'm not the only one who has done that. That is a viable option if you have 360 for sure.

Wait, so you guys were in a PARTY chat 2+ people without gold?

Wait a second, mine is also a viable option as long as i have any skype device, everyone i know has either an ipod, blackberry, iphone, PC/laptop, tablet and so on. If anything Skype is the more viable option. Double standards there :/

Cross game chat would be a nice option but I don't think id use it that much.. when I'm playing a single player game I'm not trying to hold a conversation with somebody.. and if I'm playing an online game id rather talk with my teamultraking

This. Seriously, you must all be teenage girls if you care about chatting even when playing video games. My view is video games is my time, i'll speak to my mates when im out socialising.

I had a 360 and never once used cross game chat to talk to mates, we would either play the same game and talk or we'd just talk when we went out or at work.

Just dont get the appeal but then again i wasnt your average 360 user in the age bracket of 13-17 years old. If PS3 did have cross game chat i wouldnt use it anyway.

I personally could care less for cross game chat, I hardly ever used it when I had Xbox LIVE so I'll be fine without it trust me.

This isn't to say that I don't understand why other people enjoy it, just because I don't care about it doesn't mean other people do not. And several people get alot of enjoyment out of that feature, I personally do not but hey, everyone is different and that's cool.

This DOES NOT mean that the PS3 or PSN has "failed" like you claim. PS3 is still selling alot and PSN has around the same number of people as LIVE, so there is no "dooms day prophecy" like you believe in.

If you enjoy the extra features of LIVE and don't mind paying for them, then LIVE is the "better" service for you. If your like me and you don't care about that extra stuff that LIVE offers and you just want to play online without charge than PSN is the "better" service.

It's all just a prefrence and no one is "wrong" for liking one service more than the other. It's only wrong when you think your prefrence is better than somebody elses.

And why did you make a new account for this?

Just because you don't want to doesn't mean others don't, even then there are better alternatives.

How is it painful to get music to play when you just press the guide button?

Can't just copy mp3's from a stick to the hard drive, i like just having everything there for me to use but the only option is for me to set up a stream or burn CD's onto it. My music collection is too cluttered, large and growing to keep using a stick. With a stream it means i put on my PC where i may as well just plug my speakers in, can access music sites and radio then too :) Never been able to get iTunes to work with the 360, not sure but i think it might only support media player which has only a fraction of my music on. I'm not a fan of streaming either because of how i run a Minecraft server it means people can access what i set to shared. So i'd rather leave my sharing setting to off. It's easier on PS3 as you can just copy mp3's from a memory stick, download on the web browser or copy by streaming (only have to turn the setting on until it's copied). Then it's all on my PS3 online or offline.

Let's be honest, that whole process is terrible. Plus I meant more viable for him because all his friends had 360's so assuming they are hooked up to the same TV as their PS3's it isn't as pointless as everyone making Skype accounts and getting USB/Blue Tooth headsets sitting at their desktop.

You can copy them to a usb or external hard drive, plug it in, and stream from there. No need to copy them
