Everyone at Sony is a mouthpiece (in regards to the PS3). Ken Kutaragi kept SO MUCH of the development of the PS3 secret. When the product was finished they had a hella expensive console to market to the masses. Its tanking and devs are jumping ship because of it. A few stellar titles wont be enough to sell a $600 gaming console to the masses. The casuals are the reason the PS2 sold so much. I loved the PS2, but Sony went in the wrong direction with the PS3. It appeals to the 'hardcore' more than any other demographic. If you read the NPD article posted today you would know that the 'hardcore gamer' only represent 2% of ALL gamers. I would guess that maybe only 75% of that 2% have the money to spend for a PS3.

And this is why Sony will always be in last place this gen.

Its not that Nintendo hasn't achieved more for gaming overall, its what most of their first party development houses have

failed to do lately. Nintendo did not make that many great games for the gamecube, and out of the good games none of those were really very original efforts(metroid prime is not a GG). They have settled into a pattern of formulaic franchises far worse than any other developers. I just feel Sony earned some legitamace with their first party games last gen and are a damn sight more risky with new IPs.

The difference is that Sony got huge support when they started with the PS. I was a huge Sega Saturn fan back then and it pissed me at first, but Sony had a better platform and plan. They even made RPGs mainstream with Square's help.

MS is doing something similar but honestly they look desperate. Specially with the 51m GTA exclusive content.

Sony bought Psynosis studios and a few others. They made a deal with Namco to make their arcade hits exclusive for the PS1 for a period of 5 years.

And Sega Saturn was still outselling the PS1 by 2 to 1 in Japan until FFVII was announced.

So you are saying the president of SCEA is mistaken? And no I am not saying that this will determin which system will be dominant but that doesn't mean it isn't interesting. If all we did was sit on our hands for 5 years and wait to see who came out on top there wouldn't be much point in this forum.
