Sony ramping up pre-launch PS5 production output by 50%

Will the pricing game of chicken FINALLY come to an end between Xbox and Playstation with all cards revealed soon? So that the world can move forward and pre-order these machines? It's gonna be a doozy.

Wasn't there reports of a manufacturing issues due to covid so they couldn't make as many as they wanted in the first place?

Sony claimed it was a communication issue with the factories relating to finalizing the output. COVID being the problem. I guess they got over that hill.

Does 9 million launch units even seem sort of low these days? As PS4 has sold through 110 million units and will get up to around 125million-ish units in its lifetime.

I'll preorder one as soon as prices are announced. But they better have at least one quality launch title, if not, i'm not getting the system. PS4 launched without a single good game, and it felt like a waste of money. No more.

On launch for a console? Basically unheard off,the PS4 only manage to manufacture 4.2 millones and sold each and every one in 2013,MS manufacture 3.9 millons.

Seems to me they realize they are going to be dragged into a price war, they'll have to sell theirs cheaper, and because it is cheaper it is going to sell better.

I wonder what spec they updated before mass production. not saying they did but every gen right before they come out they change the specs. the ps4 did and so did the xbox one.

this is great news because i was scared i would not get one at launch or close to it.

One of the boxes is going to be $399. With the ramping up production, it's really important to know which version they're ramping up. Because if they're listing the disc version at $399 (my ideal price point) and the digital edition at $299, they're going to need a pretty big supply.

I doubt they did anything significant. Apparently they're also having high production yields which means they're not losing much money on production. I don't see them messing that up for marginal performance gains. If anything they'll probably lift the cap a bit on their variable clocks, but again, it probably wouldn't be worth it.

Well, it's better than Nintendo's method: enforced scarcity. I haven't started using my Stimulus Check I got from my President, I need to know what launch games Sony will have and to see if buying the digital console is worth it too. Hopefully, I'll have enough to buy RTX 30XX cards and PS5 if it's worth my time and money of course.

Had enough of launch consoles personally. And ramping up production of launch consoles doesn't sound like a good idea to me. From a business point of view, it's great, but from a hardware point of view...

A lot of non Nintendo launch consoles have developed some sort of issues I think.

HDD crapped out on my launch Xbox One and the fan was making some clicking noises at higher RPMs, and MS wanted £100 to fix it. :-S Bastards.
