Its one thing to rely on brand loyalty to sell a console. The PS3 is being sold on the dream that one day it will actually live up to the expectations of "most powerful console evar".

Its something totallydifferent to use that brand loyalty and then smack your most loyal customers with a $200 price drop on your console. We won't talk about the utter lack of AAA game content that one would expect after paying such a premium.

People will look back on the PS3 as a case study in how to destroy what's left of a company's reputation.

It's funny how actual owners of the PS3, like myself, think the price drop is great because it's pulling new people in, while fakeboys like you who don't own a PS3 think it's the end of the world.

Why are you even talking?

Early adopters will benefit from this more than they would if Sony never drops the price.

I don't feel burned. I think the PS3 is great. I'm not crying about price drops or different sku's. I'm playing it everyday and enjoying it. So there.

im gathering that ure annoyed about the price drops and such like?

i never got this to be honest. why would someone buy something when they are not happy with the price? early adopters take a bigger risk in this regard, but that comes with the territority. if u think that sony, somehow, owe u something because u bought it at full price at launch then u are sadly mistaken. u payed ure money and u took ure choice. if u werent happy with what was offered then u should have kept ure money. if u were happy with the 600 dollar price then whats the problem?

i didnt buy a PS3 at launch for the whole shibang. it was a complete rip off imho and i wanst interested in half of what it was offering. sony then put foreward a crackin deal that im very happy with. i have 0 regrets about spending 500 euro on a 60GB PS3 and 2 games. i think thats a great offer. there may be better offers down the road but i wont care. i wanted a PS3 and i got it at a price i was happy with...job done.

sony are doing what they need to do to keep the PS3 from becoming a disaster. if early adopters arent happy with that then tough.

The only people who are happy about the PS3 selling more consoles other then Sony are closet fanboys. This theory really holds true for ANY console but we'll use the PS3 since this is the topic of discussion. More PS3's selling does not in anyway help out gamers because Sony will make another console regardless of it's final outcome this gen. Closet fanboys WANT the PS3 to sell because they favor the brand and want to smile when they see the meaningless NPD numbers every month. Only stockholders and industry reps should care about this nonesense.

Yeah, I'm sure all of the people who bought the PS3 a month or two before each of the price drops are just so ecstatic about all the new PS3 owners it will bring that they instantly forget they just got ripped off.

There you go right there. You don't even own a PS3, yet you feel slighted by it? LOL

Shut up. You aren't speaking for early adopters. I am an early adopter and you just sound like a desperate fool.

The price drop was inevitable, and it solves one of the main problems people have with the PS3: price. There is no way this is a bad thing, especially to people that don't even own one. You have no right to make this post.

excelR83

Where are you getting this animosity from? Also, where did I write that *I* felt slighted by anything? Perhaps you need a lesson in reading comprehension.

Free online, reliable hardware, Bluray built in technology, no extra accessories to buy just to enjoy gaming, all of the exclusive games I'm interested in,(MGS4, Ratchet, FF, God Of War, Tekken, Uncharted, Warhawk, GT, Heavenly Sword, and Sigma) and full backwards compatibility on my 60 gig model. Yeah, I feel so burned by Sony.....

Why the hell are people so worried about Sony?

Sony is a multi-billion dollar corporation. It only makes products. People have the right to choose how they spend their money.

Who are you speaking for then? What gives you any sort of inclination to make this post? You didn't buy a PS3, you don't feel slighted, you don't even know anyone who feels slighted, yet you feel the need to spew this blatant idiocy at all of us.

Please, since your reading comprehension is so stellar, tell me what you expected to happen with the PS3. Did you expect:

A) The price to go down.

B) The price to go up.

Now explain to me what Sony should have done instead. Keep the price the same, even though it was constantly under attack for the price being too high, or actually listen to the word of the people and do something about it.

Unbelievable.

I don't feel anything about how I paid for mine. If it wasn't worth it to me, I wouldn't have paid for it, simple as that. If I paid for it and didn't want it at that price, I would be an idiot.

Price drops are standard for every product in the world.

This whole topic is just amazing.

So by your logic people should feel cheated when they go out and buy some new technology (HDTV, Bluray, Digital Camcorders, etc.) only to find out the price has dropped? Sorry son, thats just the way businesses work. If there is anyone who should feel cheated is early Xbox360 owners. They are coming out with another SKU with better features(HD/DVD).

This has nothing to do with desperation, slapping consumers in the face, or any other nonsense. It's basic economic law. Sony's anticipated demand curve moved to the left and the corresponding point on the supply curve was a lower price level. That's it.

Yep, consoles do drop in price over time. I won't argue there. Its just that dropping $200 in less than a year, at least to me, is a sign that says, "We've been overcharging you by $200 the whole time"

I paid full retail rite before the price drop and felt that I was stealing something at the time because the price was far below the value that the PS3 delivered. So I'm not feeling burned at all unlike the people that bought into the core system of the other console that keeps adding small amounts of new hardware at almost a monthly rate. And the other system has more hardware problems than anything that has ever been sold to the consumer.

Put it another way.. The price dropsfor the PS3 THIS YEAR ALONE could have paid for 4 years of XBOX Live. So maybe Sony really is charging you for online, but they just aren't telling you! LOL!!

Has the 60 gig model dropped $200? No. Has the 80 gig? No. So how can you say they dropped the price $200? This is fanboy BS and people really need to stop wetting their pants and crying about this. While I agree, the original price of the PS3 was insane, Sony is offering smaller skus for that smaller price.

It is dishonest and ignorant to act like, because the premium PS3 launched for $599...and now there is a $399 sku...that Sony dropped the price $200.

What value could you have possibly gotten from overpaying for your already overpriced PS3 between then and now that you couldn't have gotten from the Xbox 360 and for nearly half the price?

Kind of like 'rumble isn't needed' and now 'let us introduce you to the Dualshock3.' If it was unwanted and unneeded, why are you creating new controllers? Has Sony bothered to mention that if you're expecting rumble controllers, you'll have to wait and purchase them seperatly or are they just relying on the faith of the consumers?

Just like it's standard to tell people they don't want key features they expect and then include said features and then think people will just buy the new equipment faithfully. Don't even try to mention HDMI . There were far more people that wanted rumble and will now have to psy extra to get it...

It's funny how actual owners of the PS3, like myself, think the price drop is great because it's pulling new people in, while fakeboys like you who don't own a PS3 think it's the end of the world.

Why are you even talking?

ZIMdoom

Wait are you telling me you happy about paying $200 more for yours? I am happy others can get it for cheaper, but I just got my 5 months ago and feel ripped off for $200 clams. You feel good about paying more?

Funny how people cry and whine about the PS3 dropping in price and how poor consumers who paid full price got ripped off. Do you whine and cry when you buy a shirt and it goes on sale a week later? Do lemmingswhine and cry that theybought a faulty 360 and one day MS will release one that should work properly? Do lemming who bought the 360 right before the price drop cry about the 360 price drop? Hell, I live in Canada. Here the price dropped $100...and my buddy bought his just a month before for full price.

Once again there is a double standard against Sony. Everything Sony does is arrogant and bad...even if it is STANDARD and common practive for the entire industry. If anyone else does it then it is smart and a good thing for consumers. This also proves my theory that this forum is dominated by militant lemming fanboys. I'm satrting to wonder if thhere are ANY normal 360 owners out there or if MS just attracts these ignorant militant sociopaths.

Very well put, so many people want the best of the best but don't want to pay the premium price for it. So many people thinks that companies should give things away instead. They don't realize that if a company can't make at least a small profit at one time we wouldn't have a fraction of what's offered on the market today.

What other accessories do I have to buy in order to enjoy games on my 360?

You're forgetting that you are talking to a PS3 fanboy. They don't actually know what games are... so they go into a tirade about blu-ray movies as if we can't rent HD movies on XBLM without leaving our house!

Very well put, so many people want the best of the best but don't want to pay the premium price for it. So many people thinks that companies should give things away instead. They don't realize that if a company can't make at least a small profit at one time we wouldn't have a fraction of what's offered on the market today.

Sorry, I bought my console to play games, not pay for Kenny Kutaragi's retirement package.

Yep, consoles do drop in price over time. I won't argue there. Its just that dropping $200 in less than a year, at least to me, is a sign that says, "We've been overcharging you by $200 the whole time"

MrEpyx

I agree with you here. I myself was once a diehard Sony supporter and knew EVERY move they would make in regards to their consoles, releases and pricing and Sony has NEVER dropped the price of their consoles (Psone, PS2, PSP) as quickly or substantially as they did with the PS3. Which proved that the consumers were NOT eating into Sony's bull and that Sony was ripping people off. the 400 dollar 40 gig price tag is acceptable and SHOULD have been this way since launch. I could tell ya Sony would be in a MUCH better position had this been the initial launch strategy, but on a side note this gen of gaming was the trickiest since ALOT of new factors came into play such as motion control, high definition becoming more common and the integrated use of online communities so it's been tough for EVERYONE to figure out the market. Come next gen Microsoft and Sony should have a better feel as to what to do with their next consoles.

[QUOTE="ZIMdoom"]Here is a simple bit of TRUTH for the whiny little babies crying about the PS3 ALL DAY LONG. CONSOLES DROP IN PRICE OVER TIME! If you don't like paying full price for new technology, then DON'T. Wait for a price drop and buy it then. Otherwise stop whining about paying premium to have something an launch day. DXGreat1_HGL

Just like it's standard to tell people they don't want key features they expect and then include said features and then think people will just buy the new equipment faithfully. Don't even try to mention HDMI . There were far more people that wanted rumble and will now have to psy extra to get it...

this guy speaks teh truth.

Yeah M$ is innocent of that too.

There were far more people that wanted and expected rumble then HDMI. Besides Sony was totally deceptive over the reason why they couldn't include rumble, they tried to pass it off as unwanted and unneeded when they legally couldn't. If you want to bring up WiFi, again everyone doesn't have it and MS has never said it was unneeded...

MrEpyx

Every single current PS3 owner knew what they were getting into.Price drops are required whensomething is such a highprice. Besides, those with the current model have BC 100%. Honestly that's pretty sweet if you ask me.

Only deluded people actually think a normal gamer is calculating AAA Gamespot scores to decide whether or not PS3 is worth buying. No doubt PS3 has been unable to aquire exclusive content to break away from X360 so far this year however you make it sound like there is nothign to play on the console. That is FAR from the truth. With R&C, Uncharted, and Haze upcoming for the PS3 exclusively.....it's not like people will have to wait long to play really good exclusvie games.

I await the fanboys saying R&C sucks while Conker rule, Haze is overrated (while I laugh at Halo3), and Uncharted is a Gears of War knock off. PS3 is lagging behind exclusive content for 07 however it's going to do pretty good in these last months. Early 2008 is going to really be the payoff to PS3 owners.....and that is not another "waitstation" argument.

And there were far more people that wanted and expected the 360 to launch with HDD STANDARD. Especially considering MS promised as much (but told developers otherwise), and because MS spent an entire generation previously, mocknig any company who wasn't smart enough to know that HDD had to be standard or it was pointless. Now they pass it off as unneccessary or unneeded. Or how last gen, MS locked the DVD playback function forcing people to buy a remote control to UNLOCK something their console already had. Or how last gen released a superior controller months after the launch forcing people who didn't like the crappy, jumbo controller to dish out money for the "new" controller which had become standard?

Oh, but I forgot. This is SW, as dominated by lemmings and Sony-haters. Something is only arrogant or stupid if Sony does it. When other companies do the exact same thing it's perfectly acceptable.

All you have to do is provide a link showing Sony told the consumer the real reason why rumble wasn't included in the Sixaxis. Don't feed anybody that bull that 'more people wanted HDD standard then rumble.' The majority of people still game on standard TV.

Only stockholders and industry reps should care about this nonesense.

thegame1980

hmm how about more sell of your flavor console mean more deve support and more good games coming out?

You shouldn't say that about the cows defending Sony, there continued attempts at spin provide plenty of entertainment...
