lol that anger.

This is horrible, i cant believe people arent reporting on it either. Hopefully Sony gives him his money back.

Why should I, when I'm only using prepaid cards? Lesson learn kids, always use prepaid cards and don't ever use your credit card on PSN/XBL.

Yeah but people still deserve to know so they can change their passwords and fix stuff. Also, arent you required to link a credit card to sign up online for PS4? I remember i had to on PS3.
@iandizion713: really? i just checked out my account after bing randomly being kicked out on my PS3 (all is well thankfully *knocks on wood*). no payment information at all.
granted that was a long time ago. around the PS3s launch. but i would be surprised if it has changed.
Yeah I learned how bad Sony's security is the hard way. My account was hacked a few months back. Or actually it was taken over. Luckily I don't keep a credit card on file with them after the big hack a few years back. Still someone was able to take over my account, and clean out the funds that were sitting in my wallet. Sony was great about getting the account back, and they did refill the wallet funds after a few days, but they did act like they were doing me a giant favor by doing this "one time adjustment". It's not really a favor when your security process fails and someone is able to take over my account.
My PSN password is unique, and not stored anywhere, so it wasn't a case of someone guessing it, or hacking some other site and just using the same credentials to log in. Because no other site uses the same password. I work in IT and I keep my passwords sort of complex, and pretty much unique to every site. So obviously they called up Sony and got them to reset the password without really verifying who was calling. This was before the two step process was in place, so maybe that will improve their security some. Still as long as they allow someone to call up a CSA and just change the info over the phone, without properly verifying that the person is who they say they are. There will be problems with their security. .
This happened to me on Tuesday. Got an email from Sony saying my sign in Id had been successfully changed lol I drove straight to an atm and withdrew all my money straight away. Then I called customer service and was on hold for 40 minutes when my phone credit ran out . Then I topped up my credit and rang again . This time I was on hold for 20 minutes when I got a message saying the lines are closed. They were meant to 're open at 10:30 the next morning but didn't until 11:30.
Total nightmare. I got my account back in the end though.
And people continue to trust and buy Sony. You would like to think after last time they would of learnt guessing they don't give a shit

I cant remember now since its been so long so i could be wrong.
I am not too sure if the problem is totally with Sony but also with the games you play online. I seem to remember one game being implicated as causing security problems.
I have never had my account compromised but I never play online which I think could be part of the security problem.
So I tried to google this. It came up with 2-3 fairly unknown sites saying people have been having unauthorized purchases and are reporting it on the PSN forums. Until you can actually give me something more concrete, then I've no reason to believe this is actually a hack and just a few people just being careless with their password information, aka probably game sharing with complete randoms.
PSN will always be garbage. Even if you use prepaid cards, they'll just use up those prepaid cards. So nothing really works even 2-step verification it seems. Only really way to really be secured over PSN is 1. never going online 2. change password on a weekly or monthly basis. Wow.
Not saying it excuses a bad defense against hackers, but this is why you use the PlayStation money cards. My credit card has never been on any console.

I agree. But the blame should fall at the feet of Sony as there are so many people who aren't aware of this option or Sony's history of security issues. Sony should remove the option to store your real credit card info if they cannot protect it and they will not resolve issues in a common sense manner.
It seems pretty easy to me that if someone says their account is hacked and they have several digital purchases in a small time period that the were very likely hacked. I know Sony monitors the IP addresses of the purchase. It wouldn't be hard to determine that the disputed purchase was made likely in a different geographic region than the user. Simply revoke the game from the user's library and refund the money. I don't get why this is so hard.

I agree with this. Sony really need to take PSN seriously and treat it as a real service and a real marketplace for digital content and secure it as good as services like Xbox Live, iTunes, Google Play, etc. It's damn shameful that people trust and will put their cards and info on the other services but become very cautious and afraid to do the same for PSN. I don't get why they can't secure it better, maybe they can't afford it, we just don't know.
It's unfortunate Sony can't get their shit together on security of their users. Even worse is they refuse to do right by there customers. Often, they'll only refund users their money back in the form of PSN credit, rather than refunding their credit cards, putting them out the money. And if they go to their CC company to contest the charges, they threaten to yank the users accounts and rights to all the games they have digitally. That's so scummy.
....and why do people support Sony again?

So the hackers will use your money from pre-paid cards rather than your credit card. Yay?? Stop defending this dogsh*t company, grow some balls and call them out. You are first and foremost a consumer first before anything. It's because of apologists like yourself why Sony will never improve their sh*tty network.

yup it amazes me how how a consumer can love a company so much they will put the companies needs over their own and make excuses. sometimes fanboys sound like wife's who get beat by their husbands.
@T-razor1: you're not too bright are you....?
It's obviously better for a hacker to use $50 from a PlayStation card than a $2000 - $10,000 limit or what have you on your actual credit card.
I'm not defending numbnuts.

Not being bright would be someone who thinks that not having a payment on file with a company is a good work around to that companies shitty security. FWIW i haven't had a card on file with sony since the hack in 2011. I switched to prepaid cards. But I've had (and still do) a card on file on XB and have for 15 years now without an issue. It's much more convenient then buying cards all the time

You fail on making your statement valid.
I'm not defending them.
So, try again.

I didn't say you specifically, i said in general. Many people just say not a big deal i use pre paid cards. but it is a big deal. it's a stupid work around. it's like putting tape over your check engine light so you don't see the problem, but the problem isn't going away.

There is no "better" in a situation like this lol. Stealing is stealing. That's the point. But whatever... please continue defending the indefensible... that's the staple trait of what it means to be a pony.

Oh I get what you're saying now....you'd rather someone steal thousands of dollars from your credit card rather than just $50 on an account.
Sorry, didn't know you were a nitwit.
@darkangel115: For fucks sake, dude....I'm not defending, I'm not giving a work around....stop with the fucking fanboy bullshit.
I simply was giving a good way to try and avoid any real credit damage.
I got an email this morning saying my psn details were changed. I havent had a Ps system since a year before tlou came out on it. I never had a credit card on it but what is very annoying is that I'll have to create a new psn account and lose the trophys and level progress.
I cant be bothered to go through Sony to get my account back, seems easier to just start fresh once I get a ps4, so the hack isnt too bad for me.
Still, I wonder how they got my old password in the first place.
@mr_huggles_dog:
Hey sh*tstain. No sh*t 50 bucks is less. So because they're taking 50 instead of thousands of dollars makes everything okay right you d*ckhead. Just shut the f*ck up.
Oh guys look come use psn not to worry they'll take 50 bucks instead of thousands if you just use those pre-paid cards.
You're paying for a service you dumbass so guess what you shouldn't have ANYTHING being taken out. The fact that this is a repeated issue with Sony makes it worse that you're even paying for the service.
Take Kaz Hirai's pubic hair out your mouth and just STFU.

Ok, I have a way to solve this.
You implied that I said $50 to steal was ok.
Of you can quote where I said that, you're not a fucking imbecile that needs to stfu while he/she is ahead.
Fair?
