Sony to Announce the PS4 Last.

Do you think this is a smart move on Sony's part? Part of me thinks this will be good considering Sony's track record of playing off of the other consoles' features. Trophies and Move come to mind. Sony wants to play it safe and allow the Nextbox to be announced and the WiiU to show its actual features before commiting to revealing what could be a console lacking in key features their competitors have. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does come off that they are less confident about their plans for the PS4. +10 points for making a seemingly wise business choice, -5 points because of lack of confidence in their product.

people may want wii type controllers or achievements and none of us really expect them to come up with ideas like that in house do we?

It's not so much about when the PS4 releases, but what it releases with.

If they intend on, yet again, going head to head with the Next Xbox then launching late is stupid.

If they actually make a unique console that offers stuff the others don't provide then it could work out really nicely for them.

I mean the Wii came out last, and sold the most because it had stuff the other consoles did not that made it more appealing to many more people, and therefore faced less competition from the 360 and PS3.

Makes sense. 2012 is all about Vita launch and those killer PS3 exclusives. (and more to be announced soon).

I will buy the Sony product last so it makes no difference.

(WiiU doesn't count since that's not next gen, it's just a very late this gen console.)

This is old news. And it doesn't surprise me seeing how much money they've been losing lately.

Sony is going out of business, it is apprent to me now. The first party studios will be forced to develop for Microsoft. I bet you Cows feel real stupid right about now.

Here's a thought: what if PS3 sales take a nosedive due to the Wii-whatever and the Xbox 720 eating into consumer interest? Sony would have to respond somehow. But then Sony say they're going to concentrate on the Vita this year...

Did Sony learn nothing from the PS3? I really hope they are not waiting to be the most powerful tech wise. Look what happened this gen, they waited a year and 360 is still just as powerful. (PS3 has slightly better graphics with exclusive games.) The release a $599 console and it nearly killed them. They do this again and I really don't think they can take the heat. They need to be more aggressive, the PS brand will not just carry itself like they thought it would.

To me the PS3 can have a 20 year market span considering it's blu-ray capabilities over the xbox360. If they do what you say about tapping into the rest of the PS3's cell power through online, then that would be brilliant on their part and it would boost sales even more.

To make up for these shortcomings, they dump all of the budget into 3rd party studios to push exclusives.

This is why Playstation is not as profitable as they would like, because those profits are being eaten up by strong first-party support, to compensate for weak third-party support.

If the PS4 has similar problems, if it is similarly expensive to develop for, they will not survive the next generation.

They absolutely MUST put out a PS4.

It MUST have a competent architecture.

If not, this will be their last console.

I agree with all of this. What Sony needs to do is stop making all of these exclusives in which most of them doesn't even break even for them (only bring back the ones which are very popular & which franchises are very profitable), make the PS4's architecture very easy for 3rd party developers, & to not use very expensive tech just to please some whiny fanboys.

They just need to make the PS4 as cost effective as possible in order for them to be profitable (or to at least break even) on the 1st day.

I'm seriously starting to have my doubts that there will be a PS4 anytime in the near future. I almost expect Sony to try and ride the PS3 to 2020.

PS3 released a year after the mediocre in sales xbox 1 and lost 50% of its customer base

If they release even 3 months after xbox 720, they risk loosing the other 50% that is left imo

As i see it, they will either release same month as 720, or skip the generation altogether
