I find this pretty interesting considering the amount of people around here trying to suggest the Vita wouldn't even launch outside of Japan

Here we go, it seems like Sony isn't going to neglect the Vita in any capacity when it comes to advertising push. They say it is going to be one of the biggest campaign in the brand's 17 year old history.

It will be advertised everywhere - TV, print, outdoor, online and you name it.

"Vita delivers an uncompromised gaming experience on a portable device, for the first time," said UK marketing manager Mark Bowles to MCV.

"With a long list of impressive features, we're confident consumers will be incredibly excited by the latest addition to the PlayStation family."

He also said that they are really committed to the platform for a long term, and they are hoping for a good start with a massive advertising campaign. He also revealed which demographic they are targeting with the campaign.

"The PS Vita launch will be supported by the biggest campaign we've ever executed, and this level of activity will continue throughout 2012, reflecting our confidence in, and commitment to the platform long term.

"Our campaign will target gamers primarily, but also the new generation of tech enthusiasts and entertainment consumers who are used to playing games on their smartphones or tablets. What sets Vita apart is its ability to deliver PS3 quality gaming, in addition to the range of globally recognised triple-A software titles, which simply isn't possible or aren't available on any other existing portable."

The Vita will release on February 22 in the US and EU, and the launch line-up is one of the best ever for a Sony hardware it seems.

Buh teh Vita is dead!
Should be interesting to see how this affects Vita sales over there. I hope other regions follow suit, advertising is key IMO

It's £230. Every penny they spend on advertising is a complete waste of money. Nobody is buying it.

I feel a bit sad about the current state of Vita. I was really excited about it and, to an extent, still am. I have a decent enough phone, but something about the Vita appealed to me... It needs good games and fast. I also can't believe Sony was so stupid not to allow indie devs access to the system. Think about it, imagine being able to download App style games in an Android type marketplace. Sony could have made a killing...

I'm sure they'll be able to squeeze out more sales if their advertising is top quality. For the 3G model I'm not so sure.

Funny thing is,its only their gaming division thats generating any real profit.

All the stuff Sony used to excel in :TVs,portable music etc have been eclipsed by the competition long ago.

I can't afford £230 so I'll pass till it gets a price drop. It costs almost £100 more than a 3DS for god sake... damn Sony tax + VAT :(

I'll give Sony props for continuing to support its new baby and putting a ton of effort to not repeat the flop that it was in Japan.

It's not like their TVs, Audio Systems, Laptops are selling well enough to cover the expenses on SCE.

Yup, and unlike the 3DS that's pretty much the set price, the 3DS was whatever the shops wanted, I got mine for £175 at launch.

Go big or go home I guess is the way Sony likes to play. That should be their moto instead of "Make Believe"

I hope it goes well for sony. I am getting the 3g model on day one, i dont pull other games machines or companies down normally. However i am just tired of Nintendo dishing out the same games and slightly updated machines with yesterday's graphics, lets release one mario 3d land and one mario kart. Milk the hell out of them for a few years until the next generation ds comes along, then release another mario game which saves yet another dire machines sales, So i am sorry Nintendo even tho i think mario games are great it is wearing a bit thin now. Give Vita a chance and lets get some great serious games out like call of duty etc. One last chance Sony, dont throw it away. Listen to your customers, Advertise the vita and come good on your promises dont do a psp.

After 3DS I'll never get a handheld at launch again, it's not like there's any must have games.

Well with the £230 price point + memory card which is practically required, it will struggle. 3DS was the same until the price drop, Vita arguably has less of a market and no real killer apps. Tech enthusiasts will probably get it, they lost me just before launch, I still have many PC/console games I will be playing (Sony can blame Steam lol).

Thats good, I do hope the system succeeds because it does have a lot of potential. As for those saying $250 is a lot of money, really guys? $250 for what you get is a damn good price, and even then the system is cheap, that is essentially a days salary for undegrads students starting salary (at least at my Uni, average starting salary upon graduation is 61k, while (250*5*4*12)=60k. So uh yeah not a bad price at all.

I just can't get past the required expensive memory card and the abysmal data plans and to an extent, the pricing to warrant a purchase. I think the best selling point is its games for launch, its horsepower and the option to just go with WiFi. That's it.

LOL. That's not even close to being true. Sony is a large conglomerate. They own second-largest global recorded music company (which is profitable), Columbia Pictures, one of the largest anime networks in Japan, as well as a host of other studios and networks (this division is profitable as well), and a financial holdings company that sells insurance, bonds, and stuff (this is where they currently make the most profit). The only division in Sony that's actually lagging by a troubling amount is the electronics division.
