You have to see it to believe it. Sony finally mastered the hologram and they made a demo by unleashing Nessy in the Tokyo Bay. A huge 15m Holographic Monster. This could've been a huge hype machine for Cloverfield, but damn - Sony just owned everything. This looks 20 years in the future. How will they adapt this technology? Will it be in gaming? Who knows.

Wow. And yet again, Sony proves themselves to be one step ahead on the technology front lines. This is why I support them.

Pretty amazing, it looked like they sprayed something into the air just before the projection started so there was some sort of stuff for the light to bounce off.

Pretty sure that was the hologram its self, hologramming the water burst as nessie came up from "underwater". Just like when it resubmerged. but I could be wrong. however, a true hologram doesn't require something for light to bounce off of.

EDIT: Err.. not in the sence of what you are talking about. all the light-bouncing is done at the base of the hologram, which then projects the image above. I don't know a bunch about the technology, but that is what I would assume goes on. If it were being projected onto a screen of water (which is what I think you were getting at), it would be a projection, not a hologram.

Wierd, I'll have to look up some information on how they are doing this it's not that often that I see a tech thing that I don't understand how they are doing it. Nothing to bounce the light off of??? I don't get that at all.

Intersecting points of light maybe?

Cool stuff, time to do some research.

let's wait a few weeks to find out that in reality , the only thing sony did , was to slap their name on it .

They write the checks. Obviously they see some possible profit in it so they took the risk and invested in something like that.

The last thing of this sort that I read about and saw was the air screen that projects an image onto a rectangle of compressed air so I was thinking of something like that.

This thread needs a better tile to attract attention

Holographic technology should be in the title.

Also AWESOME!

Eventually holographs will replace all convential signs/billboards. In the future, Sony will dominate this market and we will see the best signs/billboards soon.

Just wait.

Oh man.. can you imagine video game billboards with actual holograms playing out the action? Or like in Back to the Future, where the shark comes out of nowhere and looks like it's going to eat Marty? Jesus... I can't wait! The age of "The Future" Is uppon us! WE MUST EMBRACE IT!

I could see a problem with that people will start looking at the holograph rather than the road. There is already many places in the US that have started to banned billboards or lower the number of them.

This will not be a problem as we will be flying (autopilot of course) in space ships also made by sony.

Just wait, dude.

I can just see how this went down;

"We're making a profit in our gaming sector again! Lets send some of our earnings down to R&D so we can get more power out of the cell in the PS3 and find our way around RAM limitations"

"Actually, i have a better idea. Now guys, this may sound crazy, but what if..."

It's really neat, but we've had this technology for over 10 years. It's just never been used to create something that huge! Now if someone combined that with what Nintendo used at E3 before the Wii came out (the interactive bridge/pond/fish projection), now THAT would be a whole new age of....well, a lot of things.

One of the reasons I do as well. I respect that they actually "invent."

And on topic, Holy crap that's awesome.
