Two days after Sony's E3 conference we met with Jim Ryan, CEO and president
of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. How does he feel the gaming public
reacted to Sony's keynote? How does he think the Vita is faring? And why has Sony
fallen silent on the topic of 3D?

Q: In terms of the reaction to Sony's keynote... Do you think the games on
display have convinced people that the next gen isn't needed yet?

JR: We obviously didn't talk about any future activity, and I don't think we
needed to. As I say, we're just focused on PS3 and on absolutely nailing that, this
year and the year after that

i got inside word that the ps4/720 will be in stores next year holiday season

I didn't truly expect PS4 to come out until 2015 holiday, but I still maintain that the Xbox 720 could be out as soon as 2013 holiday.

I'm fine with that as I'm pretty content with PS3.

Q: The contrast, as far as I'm concerned, is that Microsoft places a lot of emphasis on wider console functionality. Obviously that's something that Sony has done as well, but it felt that this year there was a much stronger focus on games. Do you think there's a risk that console-makers occasionally focus too much on the wider functions of consoles? For the hardcore, these are games machines first and foremost.

JR: I think I agree with you. I think first of all it's important to say that we have a very comprehensive regimen of game services - I'd set them side-by-side with anybody's, and feel pretty proud with the comparison. One of the points is that E3 is a games industry event, and it seems to me to be fairly axiomatic that at a games industry event you should talk about games! That's your audience. There's plenty of time to dwell on the other stuff.

They can't afford to launch PS4 cause Vita tanked so bad. Thats why Last of Us got delayed so they have something for next year. Looks like its just 720 vs Wii U now. PS3 will become totally irrelevant next fall.JohnnyCageMK

We're very pleased to see that our stock went up and that some of the competitors declined! We did something right, I think. (in response to E3 guess whos went down :P)

Well your link seems a bit old, but I am fine with this. Games like The Last of Us and God of War Acension prove that the PS3 has plenty of power left, as long as they keep popping out games like that I'm perfectly happy. Serioulsy (though hermits will throw a fit, so flame shield ready) TLOU and GOWA both rival many top high end PC games in graphics and tech.

PS3 was built for the long haul.

Microsoft is making too much $$$$ to want to start next gen, and i doubt Sony can afford a next gen.

Sony isn't stupid. They know that as soon as they announce a PS4 officially, they've signed the death warrant for the PS3.

Plus, why kill the PS3 when the Xbox is about to get banned?

No duh, the PS4 wont be until Nov 2015 or 2016. Unless Sony could keep it a beig secret like with the Slim and release Nov 2014.

Cool, more reason to continue to ignore anything related to consoles and only game on PC. I refuse to play sub-HD games in 2012. Its just not going to happen

I think most console gamers are fine with this, including me. PS3, Wii U, 360 and 3DS for the next couple years. Less to spend on hardware and more for games.

Both MS and Sony will announce a new system with their own version of the GamePad next E3, and should be lauching holiday 2013.

Anything but this will result in giving away gen 8 to Nintendo.

What excuse? I truly don't believe the PS4 will be out alongside the Xbox 720 for at least a year or two. We have heard/ seen almost nothing about their console while the Xbox 720 is all over the place. I'm thinking their release will be behind the Xbox 720 and that's not a farfetched idea.

the only reason why we are even talking about next gen is because ms keeps bailing out early...why the f**k do they keep doing that? are they thinking this is going to get them first place?
