This is pure gold
So M$ has finally decided to go to Blu-ray like Sony did. That's cute, and about 8 years too late. At least Sony will be getting a few bucks per sale. What say you?

Remember when Lems hated Blu-Ray?Murderstyle75Of course they did. I remember when they said that Blu-ray quality isn't even up to DVD standards. Very amusing. :)
[QUOTE="Murderstyle75"]Remember when Lems hated Blu-Ray?ShadowsDemonOf course they did. I remember when they said that Blu-ray quality isn't even up to DVD standards. Very amusing. :) Let's go around making sh!t up. Lems never said anything about BR quality. They said it wasn't needed for gaming and they were right. The article isn't even confirmed and it doesn't even have a source other than "Patcher said so". Sony doesn't even own BR, they're only part of the owners group. I highly doubt they'd get that much especially with all the other owners involved.
[QUOTE="Far_RockNYC"]They don't pay MS for rumble. MS invent everything, do you forget? They invent motion camera gaming, videogame controller, FPS, gaming online. Now they invent cloud service and dedicated server. :lol:And sony pays MS for windows and rumbleÂ

The BD group consists of what? 15 or so companies. Sony will receive a percentage of that licensing fee. So lets say it is $3 a system. 15% of $3 is 45 cents. A lot of money on the millions of consoles that will sell but nowhere near what you were implying Sony would receive. cheesie253
Yeah.
It's doubtful Sony gets $3 when the group consists of so many companies. Probably a portion of $3.
Though factoring in game sales, I'm sure there are a few pennies per software sold in it for Sony as well.

Unless it's an article bad mouthing Sony of course.
The BD group consists of what? 15 or so companies. Sony will receive a percentage of that licensing fee. (Assuming $3 is the fee Sony would get about 20 cents on each system sold) A lot of money on the millions of consoles that will sell but nowhere near what you were implying Sony would receive. cheesie253lol edit twice due to bad math. This is what Pachter is paid for. You assume he already doesn't account for partners.

Â
doing a google search it appears that the blu ray licensing fee was $9.50 per player in 2009. If its still the same Pachter might have already done the math and estimates Sony gets approx 25% of that fee.

Microsoft is not paying $45 in licensing fees for Bluray with every console that they sell. That's far more than the Bluray drive costs them...

There's around 50 companies so Sony get a few Cent at most.

Since I've been online and had a PS3 I've seen lems, cows, sheep and hermits b!tch about everything under the sun, especially the BR quality and how bad it is, etc. Hell, I even know people IRL who have said it. So please, stop with your umbrella definitions and generalizations, or that umbrella will have to turn into a flame-shield/umbrella very, very quickly.

You are aware that there are several tiers of investment in Blu Ray, and even in the same tier there is unequal share ownership.
Sony, Panasonic and Philips are the 3 biggest contributors & share holders in Blu-Ray.
They get a disportionatly larger split of any licensing profit.

NOPE... Sony will only get a fraction of that $2-$3 from every Blu-Ray player sale... they have a multitude of other companies to share it with. Pachter is wrong. Surprise surprise.
Remember when Lems hated Blu-Ray?Murderstyle75Did we? I was always envious. Always wanted a Blu-Ray player. Thank god they finally put one in a real system.
Very informative and non biased post, thank you for your contribution. And Sony has to pay MS for games, since, you know, THE X1 HAS SOME.

Sony gets money for each Xbox One sold, while Microsoft gets money for every new computer the Sony first-party developers buy and install Windows on. Nice trade off. ShaineTheNerdA few cents per xbox one vs the $50 or more that MS gets per sony pc sold isnt a tradeoff.
Would you be pissed if I told you MS made money for every Android phone sold?magicalclickLet me guess, MS also gets money from Windows Phones? Jk, but on a serious note, is the phone on your signature a sign you have a Windows phone? Are they good?
