Sony is ripping off so many with their games.  Playing games.  They are paying to play.

ShadowsDemon
I was joking before, but elaborate please? Are you talking about their PSN now? I do have to wonder how these publishers and developers are getting their money when their game goes free.

So basically we can consider all your posts as "jokes"? They look like it to me.

Begone, peasant! This was a conversation between men. You were neither summoned nor mentioned.

[QUOTE="ShaineTheNerd"][QUOTE="themajormayor"]MS copying Sony as alwaysthemajormayor

Yeah, like how they stole achievements and cross-game chat. MS and their greedy want of standard media in their console.

Things they copied:

- Disc format

- Bluray

- Eytoy

- Dualshock

- No DRM

- etc.

- etc.

Explain how they copied the Dualshock, please. They are not copying the Blu-Ray, and you are an ignorant stupid idioty idiot for saying so. Blu-Ray is the top-of-the-line disc right now, of course they want to use it. DRM wasn't copied. That was a very smart business decision to please the customer more. They saw the hate and fixed it in the eyes of normal people.

It's pretty much a carbon copy. Look at the difference between a N64 controller and a DS and then the difference between the 360(lol) controller and the DS.

So they copied it because Blu-Ray is the top-of-the-line disc right now, and they want to use it.

So they copied no DRM to please the customers(lol).

This is pure gold

So M$ has finally decided to go to Blu-ray like Sony did. That's cute, and about 8 years too late. At least Sony will be getting a few bucks per sale. What say you?

ShadowsDemon

But Sony doesn't own the license, it's owned by the Blue-Ray Disc Association. The company that manufactured the player would pay that.

Apparently it wasn't needed back then but now it is...

Well actually, that is kinda true. I mean, earlier this gen, the DVD was more than adequate as far as consoles were concerned, despite having the "inferior" format, the 360 still managed to fit most of its games on a single disc, and is also known for "superior multiplats" compared to the PS3. In games, Blu-Ray yielded little to no advantage...

It's becoming a necessity these days, though, due to games getting larger in size...

Of course they did. I remember when they said that Blu-ray quality isn't even up to DVD standards. Very amusing. :)

Let's go around making sh!t up. Lems never said anything about BR quality. They said it wasn't needed for gaming and they were right. The article isn't even confirmed and it doesn't even have a source other than "Patcher said so". Sony doesn't even own BR, they're only part of the owners group. I highly doubt they'd get that much especially with all the other owners involved.

lol the butthurt is strong with this one.

Please... if the X1 is copying Sony for the dualshock then the PS3 copied original xbox for built in storage, high speed internet only, in game music etc.... your comments are useless. Oh and the no DRM thing cost us 10 digital shares per console so screw no DRM. Owning a disc is the thing of the past with every other format and yet gamers who should be ahead of the curve can't wrap their brain around this.

Sony was first with using the Disc Format. With CD-Rom. And they were also first with DVD and Bluray. Games didn't have in-game music before xbox? Good or not. Solid example of Microsoft doing what they do best, copying sony

No man... for GTA on the original xbox you could play your own music in the cars you hijacked etc.... Sony TV? Seriously they all copy one another. To say one copies more is insane. Just look at the Playstation Network... cough cough Xbox live... Cough.

Edit: Not to mention the biggest copy of all.... Trophies!!!!!

I don't get this thread really, yes xbox one will use a blu ray drive, what 6-7 years after major release of the format when it's cheaper and has a wider installed userbase, so that just makes sense, yes Sony are part of the blu ray group, a group which back in 2003-4 voted to use a microsoft codec VC1/9 which means anyone making Bluray playing hardware had to licence use of the codec for the sake of compatibility, so all of this gen just gone, Sony were paying MS a licence fee for the use of a codec, but if you look into this further you will see all kinds of similar circumstances. end of the day this board is supposed to be about comparing systems and from what I know the PS4 looks to be ahead of the xbone and cows really don't need to make these kinds of threads.

[QUOTE="cheesie253"]The BD group consists of what? 15 or so companies. Sony will receive a percentage of that licensing fee. So lets say it is $3 a system. 15% of $3 is 45 cents. A lot of money on the millions of consoles that will sell but nowhere near what you were implying Sony would receive. Ly_the_Fairy

Yeah.

It's doubtful Sony gets $3 when the group consists of so many companies. Probably a portion of $3.

Though factoring in game sales, I'm sure there are a few pennies per software sold in it for Sony as well.

Although there is a group of companies who own a piece of blu-ray Sony owns the majority of it.

So let me get this straight. Because Blu-Ray is the highest-quality form of physical distribution, Microsoft is copying Sony by using it? Okay. In that respect, Sony copied Sega by using CDs instead of the cartridge.

i still hate it.

it is such a poor game format that it still requires installs and if it still requires installs games could come on cassette tapes for all the difference it makes.

i thought there was no way blu ray would be shytty 2 gens in a row but not even 7 years of tech advances can make it a good format for gaming.

None of the recent PS 3 games have required installs. PS 4's blu ray is 3x faster than PS 3's. Installing is actually smart as playing from the hdd increaes the consoles lifespan.

installs were never done because it was smart.

installs were done because blu ray could not do the job it was created to do.

even now the games that do not require installs copy paste data all over the disc so that it can be accessed faster.

so the selling point was 50 gig discs but you have to use the extra data capacity just to make it work.

the whole thing was a farce.

i still love it for movies and all but blu ray for games was never anything but a bad joke.

I average 9 blu ray movie rentals a month for $15 through Netflix. 9 hd movies on xbox is $54. Disc sub pricing gets even better for tv show rentals. Most hour long tv shows have 2-3 episodes per disc. Dexter season 7 costs $48 on xbox while the whole season only takes up 3 blu ray discs. Through netflix I could watch 3 full seasons of Dexter for just $15, xbox price for 3 seasons is $144.

Yes, I remember comments like these; "Bluray will be another failed format by Sony like Beta Max was", "Bluray isn't necessary", "Bluray is why Sony will fail. They have to charge too much, because they built it into their console".

Looks like Bluray was necessary, didn't fail, & Sony is making money from it.

I made topics about this very subject several times throughout the first several years of PS3. I got trashed like worse than ever by lems on here for it. I was the biggest idiot they said. Let's hear what you Lems have to say now. Shhhhhh! You're quiet now about it & you should be.

[QUOTE="Murderstyle75"]Remember when Lems hated Blu-Ray?clr84651

YOU HAVE BEEN OWNED!!!:!:

technically blu ray did fail.

they entered into a 900 million dollar chip production and blu ray diode deal with toshiba and a week later toshiba killed off the hd dvd format.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/15/sony-plans-to-sell-ps3-chip-production-facilities-to-toshiba/

sony has still never "won" a format war  this time they were just  smart enough to buy out the competition.

"The production facilities will include the lines that manufacture the PlayStation 3's Cell chip, and may or may not include the manufacturing of image sensors, depending on whether you believe Reuters or the AP's report."

toshiba got to manufacture the cell and make the money from it and sony got a rival to cease production on hd dvd.

Blu-Ray is the worst. I have two players and haven't bought a movie in years. Stream everything.

Bingo!  We have a winner Bob.  Disc based movies and games will be gone in a matter of years.  There is not a single movie I will buy this year on disc streaming vs HD for movies is not even a choice for me.  Have my entire media library on any device any time i need it.

Blu ray is way cheaper for rentals and who wants to watch a movie on a freaking phone or tablet besides toddlers?

Going to some box or store to rent will never trump convienence in my home.  I can also hook up my tablet to any TV I choose or watch on a plane all the while that same movie can be played at home while I travel.  Physical media is dying fast, and Blu Ray was nice for its brief period.

My rentals are delivered by mail. My laptop has a blu ray player if I wanted to watch a movie. When I watch a movie I want the full experience with video and audio though so watching on a plane is out of the question due to my standards. Reading is my travel entertainment. You lose nothing by reading a book on a plane instead of at home.

So in theory, Sony is profiting more than Microsoft on early Xbox One sales...

Intresting....

In theory, you are a great contributor to SW. However, theory does not always turn out to be true.

Remember when even the most ardent Xbox haters knew the difference between the XBLG Indie channel and other devs indie games? You didn't and that's why you are the biggest fraud in SW's.....

Stupid thread. Still, it did remind me of the Blu Ray vs. HD DVD threads all those years ago
