I've seen a few of these threads. Do you really believe this? Or want this? Isn't a competitive market a good thing?

I don't think so because they have many other things that generate them money besides games but just in case I'm only buying Sony consoles to do my part to help them. Heil68

I think the Playstation brand is safe for a while. It is one of their few divisions still turning a profit. Sony may eventually go under if they stay on their current track. If they do, however, The Playstation division will be one of the last if not the last divisions to disappear. So all in all I think we will see some of Sony's assets be sold away, but not The Playstation.

Look at how sharply quality and competition went down after sega left the gaming market (talking about them not being a part of this gen), if sony left it would be over for console gaming.

Some people may think it's cute to want sony to fail but with MS charging $60 a year for online now, with sony gone...forget about it, expect a monthly mandatory charge to play gamesonline or a ridiclious annual fee of over $100. that would probably just be the beginning. The jury is out on what ever nintendo is going to do, I have no clue.

how is PS4 going to match Kinect? Xbox live? and Microsoft having brandname recognition going into this gen on their side? HOW? Im much more qualified than most to predict on this, so to be honest, I really dont care what anyone has to say. I know I will be right, hopefully SONY will look at the whole picture and not make a PS4.

Doubt Sony will go under but its possible their playstation brand might. I wouldnt be surprised if the next console was not even called Playstation.

But no, nobody is going anywhere. Sony has been making a profit ever since they released the Slim model, they were losing it with the PS3 fat and they lost some money with the hack thing. But overall they have done pretty well this gen, MS is similar, they lost alot of money with the RROD fiasco. But they also made it too.

What lemmins and sheep don't realise is that competition is good, they are the reason why these systemsimprove and why we get better games. Let's go over a few scenerios:

MS is the only one: Xbox Live fee jumps up to INSANE price, like $100a year or something. They never fix the RROD or other system issues because they have no need to do so, you HAVE to buy their system.MS screws over thier fanbase even more so by nickel and diming them on every little thing (they kinda do that now) but on a grand scale, like charging for updates and other pointless stuff. They also don't push forward with any tech or good games, so that would be the world lemmings live in.

Nintendo is the only one: They never push hardware and your stuck with mostly gimmicky games. There would be no great games like Skyrim or RDR, or just about any other 3rd party game because their system wouldn't be able to handle it. Online gameplay would be a joke and there would be no voice chat or friends list or anything, also the systems would never get more powerful beyond the Wii and you would never see games with great graphics. This is the world that Sheep would live in

Sony is the only one: There would be awesome parties every night and all the cool people would be lauhing at everyone else :P Na, but what would really happen is that Sony would release MASSVELY over priced systems like the PS3 fat, but even more pricey. They would also have never improved PSN to where it is now, so it would have remained to the part where it was at launch, lacking many features and terrible unintegreated. They would also charge for online play considerin that they would be the only one around. Also they wouldn't be releasing all the great games like Uncharted or Killzone ect... they would have no reason to do that. They alerady have your money, this is the world where Cows would live in.

So what's the lesson kids? Competition is a GOOD thing, and if one of them left the business we would all get hurt. But thankfully everyone is doing fine, and we will all see them next gen. They will all make great things, but Sony makes the best, I get paid to say that, so get over it.

Of course they will not go under, they will need to downsize though, they just posted there 4th consecutive annual loss, they are 13 mbillion in debt and there market cap is only 17 billion, there games division will not go under it is one of the few profit making divisions they have left, they need to lose there TV and mobile phone divisions as that is where they are losing the most money, selling there stake in LCD TV's was a wise move, buying out erricson was not such a smart move as they will get hammered by apple and sumsung, they have 168 billion in assets so they have a lot to sell to get themselves through this, SONY will survive, they will not go under but they will become a smaller company.delta3074

-stocks have dropped by 51% in the last year

-$13 billion in debt

-credit score was just downgraded

-They are selling off assests like Spiderman merchandising and LSD because they need money fast

-revenue growth is negative 9%

This list could go on but the bottom line is Sony is in a very bad state. They are not making anything that is leading in any of the products including gaming.
