I am not really super hyped for VR but happy to see Sony sticking to providing decent VR experience at least

That's great and all, but the PS4 itself has a hard time playing games at 60fps as is, so...
Incoming 480p VR games
i like the word "probably" being left in there.
if there a health risk if a game fails to achieve 60FPS? if not then sony will be told were to stick that idea really fast. the likes of ubisoft, EA and activision are not going to accept a delay in releasing a game because it doesnt meet a performance metric. they have games to release on certain dates. they will be released on those dates. lets not forget who wears the pants in the industry these days.
its a nice sentiment but i dont think itll stand. there will be exceptions made and they will become more numerous.
60FPS is hardly enough for VR, though. You need at least 90, and 120 is ideal.
I imagine Sony is hoping its interpolation technique will pick up the slack somewhat.

So their whole goal is to make it like a "120hz" TV, adding duped frames making basically everything have the soap opera effect? That doesn't sound appealing at all, those fake refresh rates on TV's make my stomach turn, 120hz motion with 120 FPS looks nothing like that.

Yeah, it's an asynchronous time warp, and I'm not sure it can work that well- although I imagine it works better in a rendered '3D space' than it would for an image on a 2D screen.

So that's what that little box thing does then, that thing does the image reprocessing I assume... I don't know how well that's going to fly, those fake refresh rates are pretty jarring in terms of how artificial they make everything look, they give me a sense of motion sickness too during fast movement.

The box is actually supposed to just be doing some sort of 3D audio processing. I imagine it's a software solution that will be programmed into the PS4 with a future firmware update.
But yeah, it's a less than ideal solution.
So no Driveclub support
I was hoping it would be compatible with FPS games but most barely hit 30FPS on PS4
I might end up cancelling my PSVR preorder after E3
There is a DriveClub VR game. It was played at this recent GD (skip to around 4:21 to see it):
They have it running at 60fps and reprojected. The link below explains what they had to downgrade (around the middle of the article):
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-in-theory-is-ps4-vr-best-chance-for-mainstream-success
This will apply to many PSVR games. They are not going to look like exactly like current PS4 games (and neither will Oculus and Vive games look as good as their 2D versions - we all have to cope with the downgrades). We knew that a long time ago. But there are still plenty of 1080p/60fps games on the PS4. That's a good starting place to get an idea on what is achievable when it comes to graphics. Even though it's an off-screen video, the DriveClub clip doesn't look that awful, where I can't even play and enjoy it, or have trouble seeing what's going on.
If you're going to get a game to use as an example of VR, don't use this one. What's being said isn't great as far as DC and VR is concerned.
Linky
Lol they have to if they dont want their Customers throwing up over themselves or getting blinding headaches, its an ABSOLUTE minimum REQUIREMENT of VR in general, not high standards.
Oh glorious sony preventing us from barfing...they truly are going that extra mile, they really do want whats best for us Praise Godny!
Really so when a VR game on PC drops from the target frame who will get sue.?
Why? What is she gonna do about it?
The headline states: Sony will "probably" reject... So that means it's highly possible since they're not guaranteeing there won't be any games that will make you sick, that it's a possibility that there will be games that will make you sick. So no, Sony is not sticking to having a decent VR experience until they confirm they will reject and not "probably" reject VR games that's below the standard. They already stated their VR is the worst and not as good as the competition, so expect a worse and not as good VR experience compared to the competition.

Fu** hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Damn my broken Engrish....lol
It's all good. I don't usually like to poke fun at peoples English since I only speak 1 language. American..... But I knew you would be a good sport.
Anything under 60 fps in VR will cause motion sickness, and in fact to eliminate motion sickness more so, 90 fps is actually the standard for most VR sets. Has nothing to do with Sony's standards, it has all to do with keeping users from hating their VR set for making them feel sick.

People are already likely to get sick from the frame duping and artificial refresh rate, that shit looks so wrong...

Its not like your tv that stuff is wrong and you would have heard very very bad experience from users by now. The explanation for reprojection is basically is only for head tracking and the advantage is that they know the fastest possible speed that a human can move his head. That's where re projection begins when you move. The thing that can make you sick in vr is when you move if your just staring at one position 60fps is fine you can squint your eyes and do whatever you want you wont get sick, for most people anyways lol. The advantage of reprojection from say something like Time warp is they can reproject a given frame twice hence there able to take 60hz to 120hz. The biggest advantage for this is that your being tracked. It is a technique and we shall see how its going to hold up. Its just not the same as what tvs uses. Oculus has time warp as another solution. Reprojection will actually be on all the times even if you have a ps1 like game achieving that 120 fps just in case. These are actually solutions to try to make some people not feel sick.
Good VR requires at least 90 fps. So Sony is just keeping itself away from health lawsuits.

If that was the case, if it was as poorly impletmented as in most TV's (and yes, I hate it too. Everytime I walk into an eletronics store my eyes are in pain from that), we'd have heard it by now. They've been doing demos for quite a while, with a whole lot of different people testing the device and games (which is how we know RIGS is fun and that Golem one is awful apparently).
However they've implemented it they seem to have made it work
